    I can see why the final scene pissed people off on the initial viewing, but when you watch the series again knowing how it ends you realise how great it was.
    Tony's death was planned from the very beginning. The showrunners were happy to continue the show but James Gandolfini was sick of working 16 hour days filming it, which is why season 6 in particular got very dark - they had to show just how much of a piece of shit he really was.
    There were so many references throughout the show like Bobby Bacala "you probably don't hear anything, everything just goes black," or Patsy "it won't be cinematic," or Christopher when he's in hospital having his dream telling Tony "3 o'clock" (the angle Tony was shot from.)
    When you know the ending you pick up on all of these clues, and it actually would make no sense if Tony didn't die.

    • @chasejackson7248

      You can watch it hundreds of times in any time zone, and on the moon it was still a terrible ending.

    • @aliensconfirmed3498
      @aliensconfirmed3498 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It was perfect even for the first time I watched, which was an year ago I think. Some people just want set up → pay off type of conventional narrative which Sopranos was always an anti thesis to.
      Surprisingly though all my friends also loved the ending on their first watch and we also collectively agree that this is the only really good ending we have seen. All others fall short in one way or other.

      Honestly, I thought about that interpretation as well and I think it's probable (especially with the whole talk with Bobby about how you probably don't even realize you're getting shot...), but it also could be interpreted as Tony's growing (justified) paranoia. ..Multiple characters in that scene look like Tony's potential killer and maybe that's just what it is about, he is surrounded with potential killers, everyone is a threat. It's hard to see how Tony could survive the circumstances that his crew was in at that point, but you never know....However, I think that by not showing us what happened they keep certain possibilities open and these possibilities don't really matter because no matter how you look at it, it's the end of the story we were being told. If Tony's dead, then he's dead. If Tony turns state witness, then it's not the same story anymore and it's not a very interesting one (At least, compared to what the series was about.)

    The ending was brilliant, artistic, logical, etc. Life flows on, into the infinite, as it does for us all, and they’ll continue to live their lives the way they always have, and whatever fate or destiny has in store for them, they’ll meet it as they always have. We know that “he who lives by the sword dies by the sword”, so Tony’s demise is inevitable, but this way we all get to imagine on our own just exactly how that plays out. I suspect it was simply a little too “adult” for those who expected or wanted something more concrete, finite, neat & clean(unlike life). Allows us all to individually ponder how they “end up”. Touché, Mr. Chase. As brilliant as the Seinfeld ending, which was also a work of art….🙏🎭

    That talk Bobby and Tony had in the boat means nothing. They were just speculating that you don't hear it coming or feel it when it happen, just to make themselves feel better, that they wont suffer when the get killed.
    Bobby definitely felt the 20 something bullets he got in his big belly. Chris felt the blood in his lungs. Even Phil felt it too. Why would Tony not feel it too.

The ending to the therapy was one of the biggest cop outs too. Just because some psychiatrists tell you something about your show doesn't mean you wait and shit can an entire arc in the final episode. After plodding along for years. This show got a free pass for doing a lot of b.s. Under the guise of art or whatever.
