  • With serious scoot and the ability to change personality with the push of a button, the 2013 M5 is a car only BMW could make. Tom Voelk finds it mixes luxury and sport like no other automobile on the road today.

    This car needs to have only two modes. Granny and fugitive. When granny mode is selected, a laughing voice comes on the stereo. Great review Tom!

    This car is amazing!!! It has the performance of an exotic and the everyday practicality of a mid-size sedan. The 20" wheels showing off the huge M calipers and the decklid spoiler are also a nice touch! If only I had $100,000 to spend on a car....oh well, I guess I can watch the video again! Thanks Tom!!!

    Congratulations on getting expensive and upmarket cars to test, Tom. This proves your professionalism in the field. Give it a few more years and you will be at the top!
    Great review. Only thing i disagree with is the "thorough engineering" of putting sound through the speakers. Let's just call things as they are. The engine sound is not that great hence BMW had to do something about it and they went digital. Which is not natural. Which is not worthy of phrase "thorough engineering". Cheers!

    Expensive cars do not mean I've proved my professionalism. Getting things right does. I'm offered expensive cars all the time, I prefer to review cars that actually matter to 90 percent of buyers. Every once in awhile it's good to have some fun though.
    The comment on the engine noise was meant to show how far they'll go. Is a mic in the engine bay a gimmick? Yeah. But it sounds great (and natural BTW).

    The same can be said for Audi. Its easy to mistake an A4 for an A6 (which looks like an A8). The new i3 should shake things up.

  • @DrivenCarReviews
    @DrivenCarReviews  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not sure why it's only in the US. I have not driven the seven-speed but it's the gear box I think I'd gravitate to. I like the speed, control and convenience dual-clutch transmissions offer.
    The idea that manuals are for purists (with a capitol p) is BS. We used to crank start cars too. I can understand why people prefer manuals. I like them too, own one, and taught my kids to use them. But it's a preference, not a matter of right or wrong.

    I think what people mean by unnatural engine noise is when engineers try to use clever acoustics or force-amplifying the noise even though the noise itself may be natural. One can't boast of having a loud natural voice (not that it's worth boasting about but just as an example) if they speak into a piece of paper rolled up into a cone. It's sort of cheating.
    I get the flip side of the argument, though. Not every aspect of engineering has to help with performance. Looks/sounds are important too.

    While fast and capable, my criticism of this M5 is that is isn't an ///M car. It is nothing more than a tuned 550i with a bodykit. The best M5's have been high-revving race cars dressed up as sedans. The new 5-Series is so refined that it can never offer the sporting qualities that warrant an ///M badge. Since the turbocharged engine makes power at low RPMs, it never encourages you to wind it out and drive it like the ///M badge says you should. Disappointing.

    Regardless of the complaints that this guy with the AWFUL HAIL has, this M5 is still an Awesome automobile. These guys are always trying to find something wrong with the cars instead of concentrating on what the car does best which is handle like it's on rails and hauls ass, this is what the car was made to do and it does it very well. Everything else is irrelevant MR. AWFUL HAIR GUY!!

    BMWs are just UGLY.
    Cadillac CTS-V has the highest resale value of ANY car in production now. 70% of all new Cadillac buyers are coming from German car brands. Cadillac has seen a 40% increase in sales from this time last year.
    Cadillacs are for smart people.

  • @powerofpinesol8002
    @powerofpinesol8002 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    The interior is so bland. Prefer audi, Mercedes, or even Cadillac interiors over this. And as far as performance I would rather have the Cadillac cts v, Mercedes e class amg, audi rs7. Bmw used to be a class leader as far as performance but they are starting to loose their edge to the competition.
    My favorite german brand is audi but untill they stop putting the engine ahead of the front axle they would constantly understeer. But if they can fix that than they would probably be the best german brand.

      VTEC kick in The auto DCT M5 hits 60 in 3.6 seconds and does quarter mile in 11.8 seconds. How is that not fast for a large, heavy sedan? Cadillac is garbage. They don't sell and they're hideous cars. The M5 is definitely the better car. BMW has gotten soft over the years, but they're still leading the pack.

    • @powerofpinesol8002
      @powerofpinesol8002 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Caleb Chapman the RS7 is faster in a straight line though.. 0-60 in the low 3's but if I was just talking about straight line performance than it'll still lose to the Audi and Tesla's of the world
