  • In this video, Stefan Walters is discussing Somatic experiencing, deep brain processing and brainspotting. Here the video will let you understand the complex functioning of the brain and how it stores data effectively.
    A lot of therapists will use Somatic experiencing to do treatments. They encourage clients to check themselves physically and ask questions like what you are feeling in your body now or what that feels like physically!
    Brainspotting is a very powerful way of doing deep brain processing. There is a need for using a small point while doing it. With brain spotting, rather than in EMDR where you might guide the client and go back and forth with the pointer lead them to the new paths as they are processing. In this, we allow the client to lead.
    Watch the video until the end for a better understanding of the subject!
    About Stefan Walters:
    Having studied on the prestigious counselling psychology Masters programme at San Diego State University, Stefan went on to train as a systemic psychotherapist, specialising in Couples Counselling and Family Therapy. Stefan is a fully trained Emotionally Focused Therapist (EFT) and supervisor and is one of the few counsellors in the UK that can offer this therapeutic approach. This empirically supported approach has evolved out of emotion and attachment theory, and views emotions as centrally important in our behaviour, teaching us to better identify and make sense of our emotions so that we will be better able to manage our emotional experiences in the future.

    So what happens if a client is getting into deeper issues as there time is about done. If you wait till next appointment will they be super stressed waiting to resolve the started memory?

      To answer my own question since doing it a year......no the therapist will help manage the time and wrap it up before the session is over leaving some time to process it and compose yourself. If needed some will make an exception and give you a few extra mins over session if it was EXTREMELY difficult and you are still out of it. Although this is rare I've never had this situation happen.

    Are you referring to Frank Corrigan's Deep Brain Reorienting?

    Update: Brain spotting and IFS are great for working through trauma.

      Trauma is much more complex than just bad memories that people “dwell” on

      @@mgn1621 ignore my ignorance. I've been doing brain spotting now and love it when I don't overthink it. My wording was horrible a year ago. I know it's not a meditation also now lol. This post must have been when I was still looking for a therapist who did it and didn't know much about it.
      Funny to see how far I've come since this comment though.🤣

      @@mgn1621 thanks! Good luck on the hunt! Finding a T you click with is the most important part since it can feel really vulnerable with the feelings it will bring up. Like all therapy if you don't quick click you won't be able to allow yourself to go there and it won't work. Once you click with a T though it's great even when the topics are hard. I am now looking into IFS trained T who also does brain spotting because IFS sounds great so I'm also looking lol. Hope you find your perfect therapist early in! If not don't give up.

    So if clients naturally have a gaze spot they go to when telling stories already, what is brainspotting doing that they already aren’t doing. Doesnt seem like looking at the spot has helped them so far. Brainspotting has them just do it more?

    • @harlemstewert
      @harlemstewert 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. You are doing it for way longer than you would in your normal life. Also having the therapist there as support and helping guide you in certain moments is half of the help

      @@KBcollision the gaze spot is also a slower processing spot. The brain spot is faster then the gaze spot but both get to the end goal. During session you also listen to bilateral music which further helps you process it. Lastly the therapist hold as special place because as you breakdown emotionally there calm demeanor let's your body know that it's safe and nothing bad will come of it. I watched a video explaining it but we subconsciously read people and will react how they are. So in session when you breakdown or feel the raw emotions seeing the T give a kind stare and not at all be distressed it lets our brain know it's safe. At this point the brain now processed the memory so it's reduced and we are calm since they are calm. Also they can be a therapist and help talk it out after of course. However the calm and safe presence is a critical part.
