No Plane? No Problem - Oshkosh Airventure 2024 Was a little Different.

  • This year at Oshkosh AirVenture 2024 was unlike any other. With airline cancellations and maintenance issues grounding our plane, I made the journey by car while Eren arrived three days late. Despite the changes, we embraced a slower pace, taking the time to connect with incredible people and savoring the experience beyond the planes and airshows. Join us for a look back at the event, where the true highlight was the company we kept and the stories we shared.

    Hi Barry, don't feel bad about remembering names. I can remember clearances from 20 years ago but remember names? Forget it! So, Brandon, if we meet next year (I keep running into some folks every year) and I get your name wrong, don't be offended! I went by JPI for the same reason and they were very nice and helpful. Sorry you had a poor experience. (PS, great video of all the Cardinal RG's arriving, ( I'm a bit biased😊))

    J3 cub, Harley Davidson, and Garmin all have one thing in common. 50% of the price is the name.
    In a vintage Cessna we went with Uavionix Equipment. They don’t have all the bells and whistles but for the mission with an EFB, for the price and customer service they beat Garmin hands down, no question about it, and with the add ons getting better all the time.

      @turninmonyin2noise978 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bigdaddie40 I dont follow your response. if you got it you can spend all you want. But for a large percentage of Aviators. There is something terrlibly wrong with an avionix upgrade costing two to three or more times then the cost of the aircraft.
      I undersand the expence of making the FAA happy with their antiquated certification requirements but when you can buy any number of GPS units for ground travel for a couple hundred bucks, but similar unit that has aviation software coast many thousands, something is wrong with the picture. obviosly the maufactures of everything aviation know aviators are a captive audience and they can overcharge as much as they choose. Blue skys & tail winds. God Bless America!

    I grew up in Neenah so I'm glad you enjoyed the stay there. The plus side is that it's a pretty easy drive to Oshkosh (been going since I was a kid in the 80s), but I've always wanted to ride shotgun with someone and actually experience the Fisk arrival into Oshkosh. Closest I get is volunteering marshalling arrivals in the South 40 and saying "Welcome to Oshkosh" to folks. See you in 2025!

    I know the feeling of having your own car transportation at airventure, sometimes especially when it's hot to be able go leave and come back later is worth everything. Also being able to go eat and just go relax and cool off and get some peace. Airventure is like marathon and not a race. After the first time we tried to get it all in and now we just take it easy. Our next goal at airventure is get there early and watch all the planes come in and fill up the place, hopefully next year!! Great video Bryan.

    • @JustPlaneSilly
      @JustPlaneSilly  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think part of it too is I've been enough times now that I've seen everything and not the downplay it but it doesn't change all that much so I don't have this overwhelming need to see what's over here and what's over there and if I miss it it's okay cuz I probably seen it before so it really is about seeing the friends that I only get to see once or twice a year. But I definitely think I'm at a point where the slower pace is my preference. Also 100% on having access to a car I will definitely be renting one next year.

    • @jameshyatte7230
      @jameshyatte7230 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JustPlaneSilly Do it early on renting, but not sure that helps either for pricing, pretty big sticker shock last time we tried to rent one, amazingly high even for osh! 100% on the people, that's the best part of it too me. We too have been enough we have seen it all except being early, but now we are retired we have the time! We have a very active group from our home airport and there are at least a dozen or more people that go every year it's always been great for us.

My experience was really the same as yours, drove all the way from San Diego but just kinda took it a lot slower this year. For that one, I was in the right seat of my BSA/Explorer Cessna 150, while our leader was in his Stinson 108... (Dammit, I couldn't log that time!) The second time was a one-day visit with my aviation like-minded uncle almost 30 years later. I'd love to get there again (and to S-n-F) sometime...

    I had the same experience with JPI. They definitely wasted their money on that booth. I spoke with the same guy at EI and he was very knowledgeable and personable. That is the way I'm going when my JPI craps the bed AGAIN. We flew into Fond Du Lac on Sunday and there weren't that many planes there. The weather going and returning to Texas was IMC most of the way, but that seems to be the way it is for every cross-country flight I do anymore.

      Yeah it was really weird I asked the JPI guy can you even ballpark what the average install is on this and he said we're not in the business of quoting install time that's up to your mechanic. Everything he said was just kind of dismissive. However when I went over to the electronics international booth the guy out there whose name is Dan and I'm exchanging emails with now reached out to me talk to me explained everything to me like I could understand it and honestly this tells me a lot about their customer service. I literally was about to write a $10,000 check to Garmin but then decided to pop over to EI and was absolutely blown away by how great they treated me.
