    This song and video makes a good history lesson that should be shared in high schools. BTW, I saw the original Enola Gay B-29 aircraft on display in the museum in Virginia.

    My turn to praise Peart's ridiculously and absurdly awesome lyrical abilities. The weaving in of legitimate historical events and ideas is, to my opinion, the best thing that's going on here in the song. I mean, "...to build the best big stick, to turn the winning trick..." Working Teddy's "Speak softly and carry a big stick" into the song just impresses the Hell outta me

      Thats Great Mario. If I can, I would suggest the book, Now it can be told by General Leslie Groves. He was the man in charge of the Manhattan Engineer District otherwise known as the Manhattan Project. You can't get a better source when it comes to the story of the bomb. Also, The Girls of Atomic City by Denise Kierna. It's an amusing story about what life was like working on the nuclear reservation in Oakridge, Tennessee during the project. Enjoy.

    "The release of atomic power has changed everything except our way of thinking ... the solution to this problem lies in the heart of mankind. If only I had known, I should have become a watchmaker."
    (1945) Albert Einstein

    • @usethenoodle
      @usethenoodle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Einstein as history records wrote a letter to then President Roosevelt convincing him that the U.S. needed to develop an atomic bomb as it was well known that Hitler was possibly ahead of us and God forbid they got it first. Later it was shown that the Nazi effort under Dr Heisenberg was not close at all and the nazi's weren't really trying all that hard. They had not even achieved a sustained chain reaction as yet. Their laboratories were paltry and they had one atomic pile (reactor) which was not sophisticated enough to produce plutonium.

      @@usethenoodle I was just reading about this for the 1st time this morning on the wiki page for the topic. Seems consensus is Hitler/the Reich basically shot themselves in the foot before starting due to the racial laws they enforced thinning the academic ranks of those with the necessary knowledge, and many of these who managed to make it out of Germany prior to 1939 making their way to the west. It also sounds like they would have never had enough of certain necessary materials. Amongst some of the scientist who remained in Germany where some who (fairly) accurately predicted how long it would take the Allies to build a legitimate functioning bomb. I enjoy reading and learning history & it's an odd coincidence to me that I come across your comment not even an hr after leaning of Germany's feeble attempts for the very first time

    What a disappointment! I really love this band! But to write a song as a compliment to the biggest terrorist attack in the history é very, very disappointing! I am talking about the bombing of thousands of innocents in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. What a chame!

      This is simply stupid! It's what the criminals who did this want you to think. Killing innocent people is wrong period! If they would kill innocent people going through the ground, it would be wrong anyway. And one thing is to kill innocent by accident. Another is to kill deliberately thousands of people, like in any other terrorist attack.

    • @badbeardbill9956

      If your only options are evil, choose the lesser. Nuking Japan was the lesser. It showed Japan that we could wipe them out without having to land troops in their territory. They wouldn't even be able to die honorably. But, had we invaded Japan, millions more would have perished. Hell, Hiroshima has a population of over 1 million now.
      Seriously. After we nuked them, we basically rebuilt their country. Although that probably had more to do with preventing Japan from going communist than being nice to them, we still helped them to rebuild.
      Yes, killing innocents is wrong. But no one is innocent in war. Not a single person. Have you been told of the tens of thousands of soldiers or the major factories in those cities? They were strategic targets.
      Most terrorist attacks barely kill anyone. The most deadly terrorist attack is 9/11.
      What you're forgetting is that Japan and the US were fighting a war. Terrorism involves one party doing minor damage to another, war involves one party doing major damage to another. Japan lost millions in the war, only about one or two hundred thousand to the atomic bomb.
      Ironically, the atomic bomb has caused the least number of deaths of perhaps any weapon... Only a few hundred thousand, compared to millions from guns and other weapons.
      The bottom line is this: more people die every year from traffic accidents than the number of people who died in the atom bombings of Japan.
