Awesome video! I'm an old guy(58) and grew up seeing Glen Campbell on TV in the '70s seemingly everywhere. I'm not a big country fan, and I don't recall being all that into Glen back in the day.(Van Halen, Judas Priest- you get the idea) . He was just one of those guys that it seemed like every time you turned on the TV, there he was. But now that I'm older and wiser, I have in recent years begun to really appreciate what this man was capable of. Songs that I used to hear on the radio, like "Wichita Lineman " I never REALLY listened to. I didn't realize how incredible they were. The rendition of "A thing called love" that Glen plays on this video absolutely floored me, and I had to hear it over and over!!
"Galveston" gets me, too - that guitar solo is epic! There's a video here on TH-cam called "Glen Campbell's fantastic guitar solo on Galveston" posted by Daniel Schorr (one of Glen's last performances) where he plays it w/Steve Wariner. It's a bad ass solo and Glen was getting old... I think Steve was there to kind of back him up in case he stumbled. But, Glen being the perfectionist that he always was, HAD it down - effortlessly dropped into his groove in the first half and Steve just looked at him like "You got this, man!" and stepped back into the shadows ever so casually and let Glen have the spotlight. He did not miss a note.
I know exactly the video you're most likely talking about and a few years ago I was really overdosing on GC vids on YT. Probably saw that one 20 times or more. Tell me if this was the performance...th-cam.com/video/dd9nMrvBbmA/w-d-xo.html.@@LittleBlueOwl318
10:50, he starts A Thing Called Love. I am absolutely stunned. Glen’s performance level is through the roof. There are very few musicians who get a guitar and play and sing like that live on the go. It seems simple but everyone here who plays guitar or sings or know a thing or two about music can appreciate how high his level is. It sounds so good and so natural and so sweet. It’s a gift that keeps on giving. RIP Glen. What a master!!!
Glen Campbell had perfect pitch started at five and learned a lot of it from his uncle who was also a studio musician. Most people don't know it but he was one of the very best guitar players in the world. god, am I gonna' miss him.
I saw this live when I was a kid - 15 - and I remember recording 'A Thing Called Love' off the TV on an audio tape. I carried it around with me for ages and eventually learned to play the guitar and a version of it a few years later. I lost the tape, but wonderful to see it now. Thanks youtube, and breatube.
I am sure this song was my very favourite GC song! I rehearsed it ad nauseum intending to sing it at 'Freshers' Night' in college. Never got the chance to sing it; seniors decided what song was to be sung!
Colonel Parker intentionally didn't allow Elvis to appear on talk shows. He didn't think they could help his career in any way. Glen Campbell took the opposite approach, did as many of them as he could. Lucky for us TH-cam viewers.
The Colonel was a deginerate gambler, swindler and Illegal, that's why he never allowed Elvis to travel abroad. The Duke wanted Elvis in True Grit, but the Colonel full of false pride insisted on Elvis get top billing, The Duke and Producer told the Colonel to go to hell and Glenn Campbell got the gig.
Highly entertaining! Although I could have benefitted from captions when the Brits were speaking, I can't imagine a more delightful and hilarious interview. Who knew how much craziness could ensue from a simple guitar strap! Thanks for the upload, @breautube.
$2000? Way back then? So what would that be, $20,000 today? Recent reviews on youtube have the Ovation Celebrity being priced at $400-500. Wonder what model his was and why it cost so much more.
I don’t ordinarily post anything on TH-cam but I have to. His guitar is I believe an Adamas. This is Ovation’s top of the line guitar. Its made by Ovation but given the name “Adamas” which means Diamond. It has a carbon fiber top which is only thousands of an inch thick followed by a solid spruce layer underneath. Now Adamas guitars are from $2000 to $5000. I should know, I have loved Ovation guitars since the 1970’s and have played them for over 40 years. Sorry but I had to say something since I know alittle about Ovations.
At 13:10 I can't understand what either of them are talking about. The audio is terrible. Then all the way through 14:32, the interviewer's brit accent is difficult to understand.
My mum hated this episode cause Billy was laughing at Jeremys posh voice till Parky, giggling himself, told him to stop it. She thought Glen referencing glasgow & scotland made Billy clam up temporarily as he was going through his usual love affair with the scottish media.
Seeing this is making me want to learn chicken pickin' cause he did it so great, but that's just not the way youtube guitar teachers are teaching fingerpicking. Not sure if the more common way can be made to sound as good as his way until I see someone do it that way, then I'll be convinced.
Connolly seemed to be the only one who really dug Glen--the others just saw a wealthy American and were willing to ignore him. He played so effortlessly he made it look easy--but Connolly got it.
Obviously the bagpipes were a step too far for such a brilliant musician, he probably thought ok I may have Scottish roots but who wants to listen to an instrument that sounds like 5 screaming Cats?.

RIP Glen. What a master!!!
Glen Campbell was never afraid to take risks and somehow he always came out looking cool. You can't beat that.. such a talent!

zyxmyk would be amazing to see him in his prime.
played with the beach boys too.
What a true talent and class act....he makes it look so effortless. Beautiful voice and awesome picking.....nothing else needed. RIP Glen.
Man, oh man, this is a great vid to hear GC really get into talking about music and his playing. This vid should have a million likes!
Simply devastating performance.
One of musical heroes playing his Ovation guitar. He had so much talent and looks.
He was unbelievably talented.
This is a fine example of Glen's vocal and guitar skills along with his great sense of humor! Subbing tonight!
The song after Rhinestone cowboy, where he is talking with Parky, just picks up the guitar and starts playing is amazing!!!
1981... the weather was warmer, the grass was greener, the sky was bluer and the smiles were.... bright
My favorite of his performances of this song.
Beautiful voice and such a talented guitar player
The ' song about love ', live , could have been a one' take recording ' . An absolute gem . Billy was probably itching to play along with his banjo !
This is my favorite version that Glen sings of this song, of all the others I've found thus far.
It’s the most free and expressive rendition I’ve heard, as well. Truly sung from his heart.
So glad that there is so many recordingS of the music genious!
Glen Campbell was one of the greatest of all time.
Song has been stuck in my head for three weeks
What a cool voice , NO SWEAT, God bless you Glenn

Pure musical gift. What a talented dude.
Glen's talent, intellect, & sense of humor allowed him to hold his own with anyone. A very unique individual.
Show me one of these contemporary "musicians" do an interview like this. He was so comfortable with himself.
Just talks and plays and sings ,second nature to this amazing talent Glen Campbell !
I love the flute in the orchestra.
I am sure this song was my very favourite GC song! I rehearsed it ad nauseum intending to sing it at 'Freshers' Night' in college. Never got the chance to sing it; seniors decided what song was to be sung!
I first heard the song when I was 16yo playing solfball ...wow wonderful

Would love to have heard a jam with Glen Campbell and Tommy Emmanuel.
my favourite artist - RIP

Maybe English isn't your native language. ;-)
"A Thing Called Love" is a song written and originally recorded by Jerry Reed[
Beard before cool, voice before sleep, guitar before slash! Tha what
Such a legend and an amazing guitar
When I was a kid I thought he was singing "getting caught in the alley with people I don't even know"
Best salesman Ovation ever had! Rip Glen, genius x
Such a great talent; part of the original "Wrecking Crew" in L.A. Very sad how he left us.
awesome music man
Ptue talent and gifted man. We need more since of humor like this.
Awsome Guitar Player
I love the old Ovation Guitar! Glen Kicked Ass! Most of todays music is pure garbage!
The deep bowl body Ovations are the best
Looks like an Adamas !
A great interview
13:29 playing bass with The Beach Boys
Unbelievable talent
Amazing guy!
Glen was amazing!
rip, man.
great voice
Speaking of gay guys, the one on the end is wearing women's shoes. You can see a close up at 11:24.
fantastik
Legend
Glen and the Legend Ovation model!
He does Arizona proud!
What a great guitar arrangement. Who was the idiot who provided the chair with arms and the unplayable bagpipes.
the volume on guitar wasnt high enough.

I just went on their website and see a Glen Campbell model for $1099. I'm sure it's not made as well as his custom made one was.

Who is Parky? (And who’s the other guy?)
I only knew of Billy and Glen.
@@MrBradysteve Michael parkinson was a chat show host ,most notably with the BBC in the 70s. Jeremy Lloyd is an actor & co writer of sitcoms.
Achingly beautiful.
Larry Weiss brought me here.

I own his guitar that he’s playing

Glen Campbell records sold 50 million, Elvis Presley over 1 Billion records sold.
