9:04 I sometimes wonder what the story behind the German figure with the machine pistol is. He's very different in size and detail from all the others in the set, his helmet is deformed and his gun is unlike any WW2 German machine pistol. It's almost like he comes from a completely different set. The one at 9:34 is often called the "error soldier". 1970s Bundeswehr troops didn't use stick grenades. In later production runs Airfix just cut the grenades off.
Well... Some of the Airfix soldiers from early 70s I got from my old man had 6mm pellet hit marks, since plastic kits were so cheap before the 70's oil crisis. The most damaged were the soviet, the British commando officer, and one missing desert rats officer... ("NCOs always lead the charging forces", old man said). The collection consisted of Afrika Korps, British commandoes, American marines (pacific), Imperial Japanese, British 8th army, Soviet (the ones what were left), and German (same as the blue German infantry seen in this video). The Afrika Korps had a paint job in similar manner as the British troops shown in this video at start.
What ive learned from years of toy collecting is that no matter what toy soldier no matter what time they were made in people will never paint a first primer layer on their toy soldiers
Be careful if you paint them, if your using enamel based paint the solvent can make the plastic very brittle. I used to hand paint my soldiers, but they kept snapping afterwards. Only used enamel paint on parts that aren't fiddly or delicate, or on metal soldiers. You can gat acrylic paints from many hobby shops.
Most of these are soft plastic guys (in fair/poor shape) worth about 0.75$ apiece. A typical box of Airfix soldiers like these will run you $25 to $55 if the box is in good shape even more.
Less than 30 dollars BUT i suggest you paint them and use them for stop motion videos so you can make your own army movies on youtube all you have to do is get one if the three apps: “stikbot studio 1” stikbot studio 2” “stop motion studio”

He’s a bit strange alright. At least the Afrika Korps got the “MP40” man a bit better but even his one is the MP41 with the wooden stock.
