- House Speaker Kevin McCarthy held a press briefing after meeting with President Biden to continue debt ceiling talks Monday, calling the discussion "productive, but not progress." Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned again Monday that the U.S. government may be unable to pay its bills as early as June 1 if Congress doesn’t raise or suspend the debt ceiling.

Hey McMoron, you really don't get what you're saying about the debt ceiling. This has nothing to do with future spending, it's about paying the debt we currently have! YOU will take the blame from most of America if you let the debt ceiling fail, where millions of Americans lose their jobs, millions of Americans lose a paycheck, and the country loses its Grade A rating, that would cause the stock market to fall into chaos!
💯 Future spending is a budget issue. GOP needs to pay it's past spending (Debt).
If you can't afford it, cancel it. Same as your household budget.
Now why would anyone think that the republicans are bent on destroying this country? This happens, the US not only loses in credit rating, we lose confidence from the rest of the world and they start ditching the dollar as the reserve currency. But then what do you expect from a political regime that had cpac in hungary and then invited its dicator leader as keynote speaker here, and who constantly supports Russia?

The truth is that you can't reduce the deficit the way that they are proposing to cut the deficit without draastic cuts to social security, medicare and veterans benefits.

McCarthy says that the money being spent is wasteful... Medical, food & housing for the nations vulnerable, national security, military, education, just to name a few, are a waste of our tax dollars!
Biden, according to reports, reduced the deficit by 1.7 trillion. His policies would reduce it by I think 2 trillion, according to economists. But yeah, with you there! (edit:) this isn't about the deficit. McCarthy is walking a tightrope, and he knows it.
How has Biden reduced the debt at all let alone billions. Are debt has gone up every year. With how much Biden is raising the debt each year it will he more than Trump did during his presidency.

Here's an idea...negotiate your precious spending cuts at the budget hearings like you're supposed to. Don't leverage your spending cuts over the debt ceiling at the expense of potential financial hardship for all Americans!

When so many American are struggling to keep their heads above water and many are just a paycheck away from being homeless, how dare you go after the most vulnerable by making a job requirement part of being able to receive assistant. Food stamps rental assistance are basic necessities, the jobs are no longer available for low level type work, and now with AI thrown into the mix more people will be vying for the same types of jobs. And when I see on 60 minutes how independent contractors are fleecing the American taxpayer I findthat your stance is appalling what little low income folks get in assistance in order to survive pales in comparison to what independent contractors are taking from the American taxpayers.
