@@LostWax Haha :) Yeah, we are doing pretty well given all the craziness! :). It feels like living in a very odd sci-fi movie. Hope you are well too! :). Oh, sweet! Thanks for dropping the link! :)
Have you tried adding Mod Podge to your acrylic paint to help prevent cracking. I'm about to try it on a pair of cheap sneakers and hoping I don't end up with cracked paint on the bottom soles of the shoes. Just an idea.
I haven't tried it, but I feel like Mod Podge isn't gonna add any flexibility, as it dries quite hard. At east the mod lodge I have used in the past. I realize there are now about a billion different types of Mod Podge, so there could very well be something that would work. I'd love to hear if it works for you!!
@@LostWax I mixed the 'Matte Mod Podge' with a neon green acrylic paint to paint the sides of the soles on my sneakers. And then used the 'Dishwasher-safe Mod Podge' as a sealer. So far so good, but it's only been a week and I've only worn them a couple of times. If it starts to crack on me, I'll be sure to let ya know 👍
I used fx silver paint on eva foam armor and it looks great and is flexible but im having so many issues of it trying to stick to itself on some armor pieces that over lap and I have no idea how to fix it. I've tried sealing with various other paints and also light cornstarch to get rid of the tackiness but nothing works
Hmm, I haven't had that problem with the Plaid Fx paints- though I have with others. I used Plaid Fx primer as a final clear coat, I'm not sure that would solve your problem though. Do you live in a quite humid climate?
I have a question for anyone who may be able to answer it. I have a cosplay for Kirin Armor from the game Monster Hunter, this includes the Kinsect Glaive (the weapon) also made from the Kirin set. The weapon in the game is very shimmery and shiny because Kirin is a dragon/unicorn and so it's very shimmery. I'm looking for paints that are good for cosplay and are shimmery I need dark blue, light blue, and purple because the weapon fades through those colors. But does anyone know what brands are good for these kinds of paints? Newbie cosplayer here. Also love this channel its helped me out a bit with my attempts!
@Gabrielle Soucy Thank you! It went really well, though I didn't paint the glaive with any shimmery paints. I'm actually redoing the top of the glaive again since I got some new tools (last time I only had handheld tools) and since it was such a crazy build it was a bit difficult but came out great! So I will look into this paint. Thanks for the tip!
Say I wanted to paint a dark red pvc boot black … the pvc is pretty strong so I think it should be okay but what if it did and I want to remove it, how would one go about removing this flexible paint? Have you tried removing it from your shoes by chance?
I didn't dry removing the paint from my shoes, I think you'd have to scratch it off, which would leave your shoes looking not that great. Also, I am not sure how well the paint will stick to PVC, you'd want to do a few tests first. Sorry I can't be more helpful......
Can you please make a phase 1 clone trooper helmet, I have been trying to make one and I can't find a good tutorial and you do awesome builds. It would help me out alot.
I have used it with an airbrush, I thinned it with pledge floor gloss, and it worked better than most other acrylics I have used. Can't say about flexibility though, I used it on a non flexible surface.....
Yes it can! I don't airbrush much, but I have used it thinned with Pledge Floor Gloss and it worked great, also used just thinned with water and that worked too.
I wonder if the flexibility level increases if you use their primer first? I first learned of this new line from Odin Makes, but was put off by the high cost. Since I don't do a lot of cosplay I'll just stick with Folk Art. (Note: Plaid is not accepting any orders right now due to the virus.)
@@LostWax after it’s dried. I’m thinking about painting separate EVA pieces, then joining them together - using the heat gun. I want a pseudo-melty effect, possibly with gaps between some pieces. Thanks for the prompt response!
Sitting here painting my plague doctor mask (thanks to your pattern) and watching your videos. Thank you! P.S. I wish I had such a cool shoe designer in my city! :)
Liquitex paint is decent but not as good for stretch compared to my artist paints that you can turn into acrylic fabric due to the higher plastics count. BUT it's nice to see that these FX Paints under certain conditions fair better than Liquitex for a cheaper price. Chances of getting them in Canada are low though. 🤣
@@LostWax GOLDEN, Onyx, and RADISSON. Out of the 3, RADISSON has the most stretch. We could have sheet fabric out of that one alone with a paint spreader and a smooth surface like glass or plexiglass. lol
I like your supporting of young local and talented artists!
Hehe, yeah, I really support that one 😁
I like your fancy shoes. That is one very talented local artist 💛💜🧡
Indeed!
I've been really curious about these paints! This is a great video!
Yes, same here, I had to hold myself back from trying to bend the foam pieces before it was time to film:)
how would these do on silicone? Is there a way to paint silicone? say a rubber hose? I'm looking for fluorescent yellow finish
I really love your product tests 😂 so fun but still so informative 😂
Thank you so much! I sometimes find it tricky to get the right balance:)
will your little artist be exhibiting her work around town? she's so cute.
Well, we currently have an exhibit in our front window!

I’d definitely try these paints... you and your local artist are super, thanks!

I love the way this paint flows off the brush.
I agree, this paint has really nice flow characteristics.
well you gave me the answer i was after. they are more flexible than normal acrylics. also i really liked your layers test.
Try Smooth-On's Pro Paint. it seems to be EXTREMELY Good paint.
So awesome!! Great video as usual! That local artist you had paint your shoes is pretty talented! :)

Thanks for showing these tests! I may give them a shot.
Nice. I also just tried them in an airbrush (thinned with pledge floor gloss) and they worked really well.
@@LostWax That's cool. I'll have to get an airbrush sometime haha. I'm so used to spray paint and acrylics.

I wonder if oil staining is the best option for flexible surfaces
Excellent! thanks for the info!
You bet!
Can it be used for airbrush?
Does the performance decrease when mixed with any thinner?

I love your fancy shoes! I think it is cool since I doubt I would flex my cos play in half, but too bad the black is the least flexible...
Yeah, it's kinda my most used colour, but here's hoping it was a bad batch or something.....
Can this stuff be thinned out and airbrushed? Thanks.

Does the FX paint work on latex. Can someone please tell me in the comments because I have a latex pullover head Batman mask that I'm working on?
I don't know about that. Anyone out there who does???

Can I use this on silicon avatar doll for details?? Will it stick?
I don't think this would stick to silicone
@@LostWax thanks
I think a price comparison would be nice as well. If the Plaid version is clearly more expensive, that would matter to some
True, though I think prices would fluctuate drastically around the world, but that's something I will keep in mind for the future.
@@LostWax - I meant more in the way of the difference between the two just to give an estimate :)

ThHat's a thought I had at the very end, I never actually tried the primer as a primer, maybe something for the future to try....
I wonder how Angelus acrylic paints would stack up...
Awesome vid! Thank you!

Have you thought about trying fabric paint and comparing to all the others?
It would be fun to get a whole bunch of different paints and try them all for a comparison. Might do that some day:)
Will this paint work on leather shoes without cracking?
Mmmmm, kinda. It did eventually crack where my shoes creased. Not sure what paint wouldn't crack though.....
Lost Wax thank you for responding,
What happens when you use a heat gun on plaid fx-painted EVA?
Good question, I haven't tried yet. Do you mean to dry the paint, or after it's dried for some other reason?
@@LostWax after it’s dried. I’m thinking about painting separate EVA pieces, then joining them together - using the heat gun. I want a pseudo-melty effect, possibly with gaps between some pieces. Thanks for the prompt response!
Does it have a satin feel to it?
Mmmm, I'm not sure. It's not flat and it's not gloss, so I guess you'd call it a satin finish.

What about spray paints?
Spray paints generally aren't very flexible, though if you do a thin coat they can be.
i guess wrinkels will go away after use a bit heat gun on them ... am i wrong?
Yep, they should, though I haven't tested that yet. I did also notice that most wrinkles went away just with the foam sitting for a few days.
@@LostWax give it a try thanks a lot ^^
Latex is a rubbery paint. Why aren't cosplay foam paints made from that?
I use latex paint with foam, but it doesn't have the degree of flexibility this stuff has.
Are you saying, black cracks.
You need a joke in a video “I lost my wax!!!!!”
Dude!
I'm willing to bet them Freezing Ruined them.
While these paints are amazing, it looks like they're being discontinued.
