    Thanks for posting this. It gives me the confidence to do a total rebuild on my Stihl that shattered the piston this week. I’m going to watch this one while I’m taking mine apart.

    That "vacuum tube" being off is probably what caused it to bog. That is your impulse line for your carburetor and activates the fuel pump inside the carb. with it disconnected, means no fuel.

  • @leoramirez7583
    @leoramirez7583 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome job I would only recommend that you give it break in running time.and also maybe add one more cap full of 2 cycle oil for at least the first tank. But all in all awesome job

    Good to do a leakdown and pressure test after running it for a tank of gas to make sure. Nice job which a shop would have charged you alot for.

  • @magicone9327
    @magicone9327 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Vaccum hose Is called impulse line. It allows the vacuum and pressure that alternates from the piston movement to activate the carb fuel pump

      The last kit I had on was most probably Chinese. These parts looked like they had more quality to them but we'll see. I presume with sufficient oiling they will serve me well despite the origin. :P

    Hello. Please tell me for me, why does my stihl ms 260 throw a lot of gasoline through the round screen in front, the top of the carburetor and drowns immediately after starting the chainsaw? New cylinder kit, new carburetor, new impulse hose. Can you help me please?

    IT was Not an Original Piston and Cylinder Kit? How long does it worked?

  • @MrSparkums
    @MrSparkums 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Before full throttle it's best to run a couple tanks through on a new piston & head to seat the rings gently.

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, that's what the manual says too.

    • @94SexyStang
      @94SexyStang 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's bullshit, if you want to seat the rings, nail the throttle. Break it in How you're going to use it.

    Great video! I need to rebuilt one MS260, but I need to replace bearings too. Cylinder is scored badly between both transfer ports and propably pieces of bearing cages have done that damage. You've been using that Sagenspezi cylinder and piston now over a year, how it's been running? Any problems?

    • @DonnDIY

      Although I'm not an everyday chain saw user I can't complain, it holds up well. No problems.

    My Stihl 261 broke down after only 3 years of cutting firewood. Stihl said it was my fault because I didnt use the Stihl oil and alcylat gasoline! 026 was a much more robust saw and I had one for allmost 20 years and used shell oil and 95 gas mixed 2%. Not happy with the Stihl 261 and Stihl support.

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My grandfather has a newer STIHL. I worked on it and didn't like it. I try and keep this older MS260 as long as I can. I really like the ruggedness and simplicity of it. And it works great. I'm using motorcycle racing two stroke oil in my saw since rebuilt it in this video. We'll see how it holds up.

    • @lukeoates6303
      @lukeoates6303 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Donn DIY regarding your comment about racing 2t oils. I have always used putoline or castrol R 2 stroke motocross oil in every small 2 stroke engine I run. If it's good enough for my bikes it's good enough for my saws. Plus they smell great too lol

    what kind of oil or lube did you put on the crankshaft before the seals?

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just some engine oil. Nothing particular.

  • @stihl3826
    @stihl3826 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why would you not replace bearings with seal.

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two stroke engine crankshaft bearings suppose to be open so the fuel mixed with oil can also oil the bearings from the inside. I replaced the seals on the outside.
