  • Audio recording of the tale of Kubiya Kathait from Chhattisgarh, recited by Bhujbal Yadav and Malik Ram Yadav.
The lore of Kubiya Kathait is a tale about king Sonsagar, his sister Khoilan and the Ahir brother Kubiya Kathait after whom the folklore is named. King Sonsagar once had a dream that his cow gives birth to a golden calf everyday. Concerned about his dream the king announced a reward for finding the golden calf, the reward being marriage with his sister. A lot of people took up the task of finding the calf of fortune but failed. The king got them imprisoned for their failure. Finally, the task was taken up by the three Ahir brothers. They succeeded in finding the golden calf and also found out that the king's sister stole the Calf. As promised, the king married his sister Khoilan to the second Ahir brother Kubiya Kathait. The famous Lorik Chanda from Chhattisgarh is the son of Khoilan and Kubiya Kathait.
