I loved that Ariana did not just say that the pitch was too high and all. She just says that she had a unique voice.
That was still just a backhanded compliment. She could sing, there’s nothing wrong with stating that she was off key on that particular note. She’s human, we all make mistakes.

There are hundreds of contestants who show up and the audition is excruciatingly long. And if one is selected, then comes the insane pressure on that 1 and only 1 chance (ok, per year) to impress the judges in front of the whole nation

I’m a complete musical theatre kid, can confirm, on opening night of any show or the first time performing, especially when you have to act and dance as well, but even just singing, it’s extremely nerve wracking. Very relateable. I can count many times where I’ve felt I needed to project more but accidentally pushed too hard and cracked or something similar. Best bet is to just go with whatever feels the most comfortable and controllable for you, and as your voice gets used to the numbers, project more
I work as a school Librarian but I LOVE singing... I've performed and gigged, I've recorded, I've sang in groups, I've been leads in local musicals... And yesterday I sang in front of my kiddos (the fifth grade class) for the first time, in a totally safe space that we were all used to and where there was no judgement... And I STILL ended up shaking with nerves by the end. The kids LOVED it... But I was shocked by how I STILL got so nervous, even in front of people who probably would have thought a MUCH worse performance was "good".
Nerves can get you wherever you are, whoever you are, at any stage of experience, and with any kind of pressure... Even none. With that in mind, the amount of pressure these contestants go through, particularly for their first audition, is through the roof!! People need to realize this and be more forgiving... A few bad notes does not equal a bad singer... It just means an off performance.
Ariana is wonderful. She heard her whistle notes even tho she was so nervous that she completely fcked up. But in the last second u can hear the talent clearly. When a talented person sees a talented person you can trust in that. Did she choose Ari as her coach? I think Ari can help her the best. So cute omg

People who don’t sing don’t know that every singer has bad singing days due to anything from nerves, poor sleep, wrong diet choices, stress, or a combo of those things. Not every singer has the luxury of a whole production crew back stage ensuring that the audience doesn’t notice when the singer flops either via background vocals, literal engineering on live performance vocals in real time to put the singer in key, & of course…. Lip syncing. Holy crap her voice is incredible when she’s on point.

As a singer myself, I completely understand where she was coming from. Especially when you are nervous, your singing becomes a bit more breathy, making it so much more difficult to hit that whistle note, as when you are to breathy, your voice can skip or somewhat disappear

I think if they would've waited and listened to the whole thing, then no one would've turned and they would've all told her to just keep practicing and come back another time. Nothing against her at all. She's young and has potential. 🤷

@@c-alystegia uhh, I did watch her performance beforehand lol. And I disagree. I don't think she sounded that great. She sounded shaky and nervous right from the first note. You can literally hear her voice shaking and making her pitch wobble. That's not her "natural tone", it's nerves. Especially considering that she sounded more sure in her tiktok. So like I said, nothing against her personally cause she definitely has potential. It just sucks when the judges don't turn for other people just because of them "sounding a little nervous" when they actually have a better audition overall than Sophia did.
@@xcristinat The vibrato was faster so she's nervous on her first notes and the high note was weak as it's very much mixed, yes. It's still a turnable chair for her since it still sounded great and her riffs are 75 percent on point. I saw weaker performances throughout the whole song that has a 4 chair turner so I still say that the fuckery happened after Ariana turned. I do agree with the double standard as I said earlier, but I just don't think she's the example of it since there are far more weak nervous performances that were a chair turner to be compared with and seemed more unfair.
Even big artists have voice crack in live performances. I hope she'll make the stage of voice her comfort space too. she will definitely rock it.

I feel really bad, her voice is honestly amazing and I can't imagine how I would feel if I messed up on stage because I was so nervous and then everybody made fun of me for it.
I think her (compared to the numerous other performers that weren't chosen literally just cus of 3 or 4 pitchy moments) voice's natural tone is that much more unique and intimate, the coaches didn't really care about what was coming next because they knew they could work with that. May not be totally fair but good for her for starting out strong.
I can’t even imagine attempting that especially in front of a singer who is known for her whistles ! The bravery it took should be applauded! obviously the nerves meant she didn’t have enough support but she proved she can hit those notes which is amazing!
Reaching those high notes in that whistle is beyond my ability. Also going on The Voice is amazing because I could never muster up the confidence to even register for audition. Being in your own comfort place is a lot easier for a lot of people because they’re in a place they know they won’t be criticized. There also isn’t a thousand people right in front of you.
