Note 1: there are 6 positive fixings now.
Note 2: the mattress is a bit better than the previous 2nd gen
Looks very nice and good quality
Enjoy my friend.
Thank You Mike🤙
Nice review, thanks Tim. Some excellent new features. Not sure I can justify upgrading mine to the new one, but let’s see in a few years! Thanks to my car park I’m a bit limited on height. My solar panels are glued on, which isn’t ideal. With the new integrated rails I could probably bolt panels on as you have done, have space underneath so they are cooler and still fit into my car park. The other additions are great too, AluCab have clearly listened to customer feedback. I do prefer carpet so that I can Velcro things on, but love the idea of the internal rails to mount things on on the ‘ceiling’. I can imagine making up some bags for all sorts of things to go there. Storage for dirty clothes, for example. It amazes me that there is now a market for so many companies making these Troopy roofs! Congratulations on being picked to get one of these. Chris (geoffthetroopy)
That’s Chris for watching. Yes super stoked to be the first one in the world.🙏
Wow, that’s quite a privilege. Does this mean you’re an influencer now? A new career beckons :) Hope you get some good trips out of it. It’s getting hot here in Dubai. Work travel to Kenya allowing, I’m hoping for a final couple of nights ‘working from Troopy’ up a mountain at the end of April as an end of season finale.
@@christophersaul LOL "influencer", is that even a thing at my age😄. Enjoy the mountains.
Just outta interest, did they have much trouble releasing the old one with all the sika around it or not to much trouble. Always wondering if i want a change in say 5-6 years if possible without drama. Looks good mate.
There were some minor scratches which were earlier sprayed over, and I think they had to cut a bit more off in places.
Very cool Tim🔥love the new changes👌🏻
Thank you man 👌
Love it Bro, another excellent product from alucab !!! also lekker bumping into you while you filmed it
That was so funny. Both “camping” at the same spot 😂
I wish they made this for 60 series cruisers
LOL I have seen guys modifying these for like a 80 series & 200 series. Who knows maybe the new Ineos Silenus can be modified🤷🏻♂️
Look at Camteq in the usa. He makes one for a 60
@@ulivialex131 Thanks I had a look. Not cheap by a long shot. Basically more than double the cost of the hercules 🙄 if not 3 times. Cheaper to sell and buy a Troopy😜
Thanks for the informative video! I was wondering what your experience was/is with the old latches vs the new latches? Here in the UAE we break them both and it could be because they are misaligned as in your video; (in addition to being poor quality); was also wondering how you went about swapping out the old version rooftop for the new one?
This is the first time I have these latches. There was another one I had on the old version which was good.
Not sure what you mean about how I went about it . AluCab took the roof conversion off and put the new one on.
Nice upgrade Dude🤙
Noticed you have a forward facing second row of seats in your troopy. Are these seats still useable with the headroom decrease after installing the Alucab top? Wondering if it will still be able to be used for passengers in the back. Any headroom differences in the back between the new alucab and older alucab top?
Hey There OttoEx, there is a very small difference from old to new. I should go measure the new and compare to the figure I had in the older video where we compared the AluInnovations with AC. I am tall and I can fit in the back, but don't often. It is more for/was for my daughters who are out of school and can fit just fine. They biggest complaint is getting in the front door and the window position - never had a complaint about the height yet. You can DM me is you want on Instagram for more details.
Just a pity they were not able to fit/match the look of the vehicle by following the shape body and roof-line, like the Aluinovations version
Maybe watch again. It does follow the roof line? What you maybe not seeing is the slant inward from the sides which the AI version does. But then you loose bed width🤷🏻♂️
PS - Thanks again for watching.
Hopefully you one soon. Did you ever get a price?
@@troopyinafrica its not parallel like the AL, and goes straight up at the back while AL follows the body line.
@@wetwaterfish ahuh at the back. Yes. Like I said gives more room inside for bed and bedding. 🤙 AI have had to make a much higher custom version here in South Africa to accommodate the same
Is the mattress size any bigger than the previous model? Can you now leave your pillows up top and close the lid? That used to really shit me, that you had to store your pillows downstairs. Nice to see the roof rails go the whole lenght now.
I haven’t tried to put my pillows upstairs yet. They do say there is now more room. I guess it depends on what size pillow you like 😂
@@troopyinafrica Fair comment on the pillow size! Just 2 normal pillows, but sounds like the new-improved model might be a fraction bigger, which is good.
looks like the rear latches still don't lay flat when in the open position, impeding the rain gutter or similar. Better & stronger latches yes but still require more improvement
Thanks Dave for watching. This is a very good point I didn't look at and went out this morning to check ASAP. The car is going in Monday for some tweeks, so I will have the discussion with the engineering team. Thanks for the point.
@@troopyinafrica I'd be interested in the outcome
Will let you know
Did you have the old alucab rooftop tent?..
Yes had that one removed and new one put on.
Could you sleep in this with your head at either end of the tent?
We do sleep Both sides 🤙
Its a pitty the quality is still lacking, they can not even get the alignment of the rear latches right
Well spotted 👌, though I am not certain the quality was ever missing on my last one. Perhaps I should have noted that this was the test model or first production model to be fitted. It was on the list of tweaks they actually asked me to come back for. They are perfectly straight now 🤙. If you referring to the latch issue these are much better than the old ones. On my last conversion they had even replaced it with a brilliant latch. Unfortunately I think all these conversions suffer with latch issue in some way. The latches will never be able to hold the roof and it's loads Offroad without some level of movement of a conversion. I am loving it....just wish I could go camp more 😭🤣
looking really sexy and well built! Thanks for sharing and making us dream about it 😅
Thanks for watching. The longer I have it the happy I become 😂.
Busy editing my Botswana video and at one point I tell the camera I couldn’t take a pic because my cellphone died being up in the old conversation and I thought to myself “dam it is nice to have chargers now”.
@@troopyinafrica lol yes I got your point 😅 small improvements but essentials today! I have an Alucab gen3r mounted on my jeep and I’m also very happy about it!
@@Amos_Adventures Gen3-R is what they based a lot of the changes on inside. But if you have a Jeep you need to dream about a Troopy too then, or do you have one?
@@Amos_Adventures PS subscribed. Going to have to watch some of your videos.
@@troopyinafrica 😂 in fact I dream about a reliable rig first and then about a roof conversion so basically I dream about what you have 😅… who knows maybe one day
Nice - even though they have copied Alu- innovations.
Thank John for watching. 👌
I'd like to respond to your point with two other points to note when making such a statement.
1. By making this statement you are in effect using "Fruit of the poisonous tree". Which came first the Hercules or the Kronos? So by making this statement you are in effect implicating AI. That said Casiem & AluCab have long since accepted they are now creating in the same place, and what customers want is what they must deliver.
2. If you are referencing the sloping roof, Alu Innovations is not the only manufacturer in the world doing a sloping roof, which off the cuff I can think of "Headspace".
I see from your channel you started a build 11 months ago in SA. How is that going? Are you on our Troopys in Africa What's App Group? Please DM me on instagram or email me if you keen to join. We have loads of guys with AI conversions 😜 and loads of great Troopy insight and support.🤙
The Trakka Bushman Troopy had a slopiping design from their pop top's in the 80's. So that must mean Alu Innovations copied Trakka!
@@drewbibby3294 I didn't know that. Will have to look that one up.
@troopyinafrica I was naughty. I do know the history - I contacted both companies and the one just fobbed me off to the dealers while the other invited me around and spent a few hours discussing my build and gave us a tour of the factory- now I understand that one is a far larger company that cannot realistically give one a personal service, but this has made me biased.
@troopyinafrica I've sent you a message on Instagram. The troopy is still at the panelbeaters, and the engine is having an adapter and flywheel made
