    Jazz guitarist: That's a power chord. You wanna make that a minor 7 chord?
    Rock guitarist: *Confused frustration intensifies*

    • @caleb428
      @caleb428 4 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Can you make a power chord major or minor? I know that it is the root and 5th and maybe an octave but how could you go from there to major or minor

    • @infinitespinergy1220
      @infinitespinergy1220 4 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      I think power chord means it only contains the 'basic notes', so for example C E G, if you make this minor, it becomes C Eb G
      If you add the 7th, which in this case can be either Bb, or B , it won't be a "power chord" anymore (i think)
      You can add the 9th, D or D# for more color, and you can call it a 'basic' jazz chord now
      If you see Cm79, that means: C Eb G B D

    • @troysmithfr
      @troysmithfr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +63

      @@infinitespinergy1220 That would be a Cmin9(#7). And yes, power chords are only roots and fifths.

    • @XFeuerFestX
      @XFeuerFestX 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@caleb428 Power chords usually only use at most 3 strings, so you can just add in the minor or major third on one of the muted strings to make it a minor or major chord. You can't make a major/minor power chord though, that's a contradiction.

      Not that simple. Playing jazz decently requires a lot more comprehension of music theory. Also, jazz chord grips are typically more uncomfortable. However, you can play 99% of rock songs by knowing how to play power chords, E and A shape barre chords along with an occasional sus4 and dominant 7ths.

      PROGRESSIVE ROCK,it's a fusion of rock and jazz or TECHNICAL DEATH METAL.
      It's really hard to play
      But i agree with few metal sub-genres are easy to play likes nu-metal,thrash metal or heavy metal. Maybe rock too likes hard rock,rap rock or punk rock.

    There are two categories op aspiring guitar players.
    1 the ones that want to learn to play.
    2 the ones that want to be able to play
    I try to weed out the latter, because there is no point teaching them. It's pretty easy to weed them out, because they will ask: "Can you teach me how to play this song?"
