I have to be honest with you that the end of your video just made me cry. I suddenly and remarkably missed my mom. I hope you snuggled peacefully under her quilt. Happy Birthday, Kate! 😎
Meet too. My mother was never able to finish our quilt. But I miss her more, so much. My Mom taught me to sew when I was young, and to do it neatly. Pillowcases, aprons, simple dresses. Then, we discovered quilting. I was 16 when she started with a quilt for my oldest cousin's wedding. I still quilt, 50 years later. Flying geese is on my list of quilts to make. I've done some with more detail in the blocks, and have rearranged some blocks of other common patterns to design other blocks. But, not Flying Geese, yet. It will be coming up soon. though. For now, I am finding EPP to be quite relaxing, and portable. I haven't had much urge to get out my sewing machine yet, after dealing with asthma complicated by some respiratory virus. So, EPP has occupied me as I get back to my normal self.
I have a whole cloth, large, double bed sized quilt that my mother made for me and the amount of work that she put into it is phenomenal. It’s cream on one side and white on the other and the intricate hand quilting is shown off perfectly. I have it on my bed and think of her every day when I am making the bed and folding it down each night. It isn’t pristine any more because I have used it for 15 years but I appreciate it more than anyone else ever could. I also use the beautiful handkerchiefs that she had and her wooden spoons .... every day items are a better reminder of her than any expensive jewellery or silver.
I commend you on your respect and love for your mother. Over the years I've made blanket/quilts for my children and their children. All were given away and sold at a flea market. My children want the jewelry and shiny things. Sad but true.
See Canon ... that’s very sad, I hope someday that they come to appreciate the work you’ve done. However, no matter how much you love them, I’m afraid they aren’t “quilt- worthy”. I cannot even imagine how it made you feel to know they discarded all your work at a flea market. I am very sorry for that.
Beautiful! And I'm tearing up remembering all the talented, wonderful Mum's who have passed on their knowledge to daughters such as you, and I. Thanks for sharing!❤️
Hello Kate, Please don't throw out those points you are cutting off. I save all tiny pieces and use them for fillers in cushions I make for cats to lay on at Humane Society's. Or some other agencies for animals that do not have homes. I save all scraps for this project. The cotton fabrics used for the stuffing and outside of the cushions can be washed in hot water with no problems. Thanks for listening.
Aww Kate I had a tear in my eye about your mums quilt she made by hand a labour of love its truly is beautiful so special thanks for sharing it 😢it made me cry you are so talented and your whole family are you are beautiful person sharing all your makes giving sharing all your experience and tips with us all.❤I love watching and listening to you .
This quilt is not only beautiful but the story behind it makes it a heirloom. I bet every time you look at it or touch it you can feel your mother’s love .
My mother does that. Every hand made item, she folds away and doesn't use, even the cup towels and matching pot holders. It distresses me to the point I'm not gifting her hand made items any more. They were made with love to be used. So, when she passes, someone else will be using it, and it wasn't made for them. They'll be getting all the love I made for her. Use it. Wrap yourself up in it. Use it so much it becomes soft and thin. Don't leave any of her love behind. She left it for you.
oh god, me too! now I'm weeping again! that's my thought too. USE IT! There will be plenty of love left in it for Agnes and you can only add love. It never leaves. xo
I’m glad I’m not the only one that is weeping! My Mom also was a crafter and she made me a beautiful crochet blanket, I had it in a bag to preserve it and the moth got it, I could fix the damage but from that day on, I started to use everything she made for me❤️This video was sooo beautiful, Thank you Kate❤️🌟
I totally agree with you. I made my daughter a quilt and I am glad that she does use it...my mama made quilts when I was a child and they were used(loved) until they were only rags. Oh to have one of them today. I would be snuggled in it at every opportunity.
My mother made afghans, each one of my children got one she made for them. I still see some of them in their homes. When she died, there were several she had kept, so I offered them to anyone in the family who wanted one. They took all but two, I have those and the last one she made while struggling with Alzheimer's. Use the quilt, it is precious because she made it for you.
My mom passed when I was sixteen. I kept her lamb coat and the coverlet from her bed. Forty years later I cut that ratty coverlet into squares I used as padding in crimson and white Shaker Tape, Ladderback chairs I wove for my new kitchen. Last year, when my husband took the well worn chairs to the thrift shop, I cried. Silly really, no one could see the old blanket... but I knew it was there. Odd how mementoes linger in our hearts. Thank you for sharing your mum with me.
Your mum's quilt is absolutely gorgeous and so very precious and sleeping underneath it on the eve of your birthday is a perfect way to honour the caring woman who gave you life. Thank you so much for sharing such beautiful, meaningful, and heartfelt sentiments. Wishing you a wonderful and cozy birthday.
Wow…..seeing this made me tear up….what a special treasure. Oh wow, I was just going to suggest you put it on your bed, on a special day, like her birthday or your birthday…..love this Kate. I lost my Mom September 18, 2021……I miss her so much….
Your Mom's Grandma's Flower Garden is beautiful and so is your Trip Around the World. I love watching your videos, everything flows along so calmly. Thank you for what you do.
Susan- I understand. My Mom has been gone since 2012. We are about the same size. When I'm feeling blue, I wear her PJs or a winter jacket and go back in time for a while.
Beautiful quilt made by your mother. I love the way she inserted the 4 piece diamonds in between the flowers. I just happened to start piecing shapes like that in 2 colors each, along with larger diamonds with contrast centers. I hope you had sweet dreams of your mom under this beautiful quilt, on your birthday morning.💕
A great video. The Grandmother’s Flower Garden is my favorite pattern of all time. My Mom made me one after I was married....and pieced just like the one your mom made you. But it only fit a single size bed. But for my wedding she hand pieced and always hand quilted a double wedding ring for my wedding quilt. It was beautiful. Over the years and four ruff and tumble boys later.....it is near threadbare. I should have kept it like you did yours, but my boys enjoyed it so and loved to cuddle in it. It the winter because it was warm ......and in the summer the pieces of cotton were so cool when they first wrapped up in it that it didn’t much matter to them if it was winter or summer. I still have the quilt, but it needs restored. It is now 52 years old. I have loved everyday of it. She made several Trips around the World. Even though I am 5 and 1/2 years older than you, you remind me of my mother. Because you accomplished things and get them done. I’m a great starter, but am not much of a finisher. Precious picture of your mama sewing the Grandmothers Flower Garden quilt together.
Your Mother’s quilt is beautiful Kate! I’m like you, I treasure every precious thing my mother made with her hands and don’t want any of it to be worn out. I want them passed on to her grandchildren (my children) and great grandchildren (my grandchildren), who will treasure them, and so a little piece of “Nonnie” stays with us ❤️ Your quilt looks as if it’s going to be beautiful too! Happy Birthday Kate! Have an especially wonderful day tomorrow!
I couldn't help but cry! Your Mom was lovely and I'm so happy you decided to sleep underneath it for your birthday. My Mom unexpectedly passed away on the 28th of August, 2018 at 80 years young. On 22nd of June she sent me a throw that she purchased that has a saying that expresses her love for me. I hung it up because it means so much. She was my best friend! Here is goes: "Daughter - A Daughter brings sunshine to brighten your days. A Daughter brings joy through her loving ways. A Daughter is a blessing that comes from above. A special and beautiful treasure to love". Along with this was a magazine that included the pattern of a granny sofa throw she wanted me to crochet for her. Who knew! It has so many colors and we were narrowing it down to her favorites. Maybe she knew she was not well, I don't know so I took this last request and began Jan 2019 and finished it in April. It has 90 octagons and 19 colors. I have it on a chair where I see it every day. Mom would have loved it, I know! There are tears and kisses intertwined throughout!
The quilt you are working on is lovely. Great, happy colors !!!! Your mom’s quilt is beautiful ! Grandmother’s flower garden was the first quilt pattern I ever made. Use your mother’s quilt and wrap yourself in her love. Happy birthday 🎈lovely Kate. Have a fantastic day tomorrow.
I'm weeping happy tears that you will sleep under the beautiful Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt. My mother, a prolific quilter, quilted for 8-10 hours every day until she broke her hip. Four months later she joined Poppa in heaven. She was adamant that she didn't prick her finger thousands of time for her masterpieces to be hung on walls or stored away "safe". They were made to be used and LOVED. The kindest thanks was that her quilts were worn out by comforting those she loved. I feel Mom smiling down on me for sharing this personal message with you and hope you will use the quilt your mom made and wear it out, feeling her love for you every time you see and use it. (If you don't want to go that far, how about keeping it on your bed so you enjoy it every day and folding it down to your feet to minimize wear?) Thanks to Arne and Carlos for telling about you on a recent Sit and Knit a Bit.
That is the most beautiful quilt I have ever seen!! I would cherish it too! Special is too small of a word to describe the meaning of such a wonder! Thank you for showing us. God Bless.
Hello Kate, got a little teary about your mums beautiful quilt. I have a couple my mum made for me. Recently I got them out to measure, I hugged each one tightly before putting it back. I want to say my mum made a few of the lovely grandmother's flower garden quilt. Thank you for sharing.
What a beautiful work of art made with love. I don’t think I’d use it either. What patience she must have had to piece all the little bits together. Wish I had something as beautiful.
Your mothers quilt is spectacular! And that picture of her working on the quilt is so sweet! I wish I had a keepsake like that from my mom! But I’m working on quilts for each of my 4 kids! I have one done, it was a sampler quilt for my oldest daughter. Now I’m working on a double Irish chain in muted patriotic colors. It’s almost done. Next is the Radiant star for our youngest daughter and a flying goose for our youngest son. I hope I get them all done! I’m almost 72 years old!
Lovely chat. I have a quilt made for my mom when she graduated 8th grade. I fell in love with it the very first time I saw it at my grandmother's home. Happy Birthday, Kate. Have a special day. And sweet dreams under your mum's quilt.
Oh my! The hexagon quilt was what my Grandmother Hazel made when she was engaged. She gave it to me and I cherish it! I am going to hang it on a wall. The background colour is turquoise. Very labor intensive. I am approaching 70. Thank you for sharing and bringing back fond memories!
Happy Birthday dear Kate! I hope you had precious dreams under the quilt your mother made. My mother wasn't a crafty person. She liked to cook, arrange flowers, read, and sip sherry. I miss her still after 28 years. I can see her playing solitaire, her nails in their Fire & Ice polish, tapping on the table.
My mum always had knitting or crochet everywhere she went. Always when travelling! I haven't heard 40 winks for many years when my mum was alive. The Grandmothers Flower Garden is one of my favorites, along with Log Cabin. I'm thinking of crocheting the Log Cabin. So glad I bumped into your channel though I don't remember how! The ending of the video is so sweet. Mums are such hard working, forgiving, always loving. Happy Birthday! Hugs from Canada⛄
Kate..I love your grandmothers flower garden quilt that your Mom made for you. So much love in every stitch! My very good friend started one when her daughter was 9 years old. She finished it in time for her wedding day. It’s a beautiful quilt! Very special and I’m so happy you decided to use it for your birthday! 💕
NO WONDER! Happy Birthday, Kate! We are both born under the sign of Aquarius, so that explains a lot why your site drew me into it. Plus, we share the love of quilting. What a treat today to see your lovely quilts and how very special to have the quilt from your mum. Of course I have Kaffe Fassett fabrics in my stash! Thank you for a delightful Sunday post.
Oh Kate what a stunning quilt. Your mum was so talented and you have obviously inherited her skills. I must admit to a few tears!!! Have a wonderful birthday and Thankyou for your creative sharing. Lynne (Sunderland) xx
🥰💕Oh Kate my heart! Happy Best Birthday ever! It was me who mentioned to you that I would hope you do a video on Grandmothers Flower Garden quilt! I’m working on my Black & White Grandmother’s Flower Garden while I watch alllll your videos. Thank you thank you thank you for sharing such a beautiful memory of your Mother. I mentioned to you how much I miss my Mother & when you use your Moms threads it touches my heart so much. Love 💕 you & Happy Birthday Kate. You’re so lucky 🍀 to have your Mothers special quilt. I read Maria Shrivers book “I’ve Been Thinking” & she mentions she had a very strong Mother & she found an inscription in a book her Mother gave her which said, “Maria, I will love 💕 you even more from heaven”. That’s helps me on most days when I miss my Mother sooo much. Hope that helps you also. Love 💕 you Happy Birthday. Thanks for all that you do & getting me through 2 hand surgeries & recovery. 🌹🌹🌹🥰💕🧶🧵🏠📚👍👍
Oh Kate. One of my first hand made quilts was a grandmother’s flower garden, similar to the one your mum made for you. I wish I could show it to you. Only thing done on it by machine was sewing bias to edge but stitched down by hand. My quilt occasionally gets put on the bed but only for special occasions. I understand your reluctance to use your mum’s gift to you, but she made it for a reason. A beautiful gift for her beautiful daughter. Life is so short, truly a labor of love 💕
Your mom's quilt is beautiful....there are some things we just can't seem to use but need to enjoy. My mom did beautiful embroidery and made many sets of 7-day dish towel sets. She gave many away as gifts and I have mine put away...I could never use them! One of my cousins took her set, made them into a sweet little quilt and sent it to me after my mom died. I love it and do use that and enjoy it. Your quilts are all so unique! Peter Walsh, who had the show Clean Sweep, said once that we need to "honor" the things we love by using them, not putting them away in a dark drawer, etc. So I try to use my grandmother's tea cup at times, etc. If they break being loved and used, it's better than having them break in a box somewhere. Happy Birthday, dear Kate!!!
Kate, I am all tears after seeing the Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt your mother made for you. That was a quilt of love. I understand you don't want to use it but maybe you can put it on the bed for special occasions or when your missing your mom and she would be right there with you. Much love to you. ❤
Your Mums hexagon quilt reminds me so much of one I Crocheted years ago. I put tassels around it, and my daughters cat really played with the tassels..tangled everything up. It was huge, and I had it on my bed for years. But can’t think where it ended up! It was beautiful..thankfully I took photos of it. This was over 40 years ago..several house moves, different towns. I’m 74 now...memories 🇦🇺
What a wonderful quilt. I just knew it would be as you’ve shared her sewing before. No wonder you treasure it so much. The lovely label on it, and her real appreciation of you. Sooo beautiful! Always a meaningful video from you. I do so appreciate you and your time-generous videos. Thank you Kate!
It’s a year later that I am watching this. I was stitching on my hexagons as I watched. The quilt your mom made for you is so lovely. I was given blocks made by a great aunt using original 30’s fabrics. Grandmothers Flower garden. From Norway. I treasure it.
We have grown to love YOU and your FAMILY. Inspirational right down to the ill just take 10 minutes....... To the straightened quilt safety pins. Its ALL about love.
Kate: Happy Birthday! We share January 27th as our birthday! I will be 67 so I have a few years on you. Love seeing your Mum’s hexagon quilt. You are so lucky to have such a lovely memory of her. Sleep well tonight and every night............
What a beautiful quilt! My late mother made my daughters one each and they still use them xx we should treasure what gifts we receive from our parents no matter how small xxx
My mother who is 99, made over 40 quilts in her time. All her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren spent time snuggled under one or more of them. Thanks for sharing. Happy birthday, Kate.
I have a beautiful quilt made by my Grandmother for my Mother for her wedding to my father. It is 52 years old now. It is one of the only things I ever wanted to be handed down to me. I received it last year and will never part with it. It stays folded up in a drawer so it won’t degrade any further so I understand perfectly why your quilt is too precious to use.
Kate, there is a brother dealer in my town said if I bought fabric from her she will teach me a simple quilt for my daughter for her birthday in August. She loves the seashell theme.Happy Birthday to a sweet beautiful lady. Your moms quilt is so pretty.
Happy birthday, tomorrow, Kate. You share a birthday with my mom. She will be 86 tomorrow. While she did not sew, her mom did, and I have a quilt from her that is also precious to me.
Oh YES. always sleep under it on your birthday. It's like she is hugging you. I make quilts for my grown children - I want them to use them. But, I have things from my own Mama, so I understand how precious they are.
What a lovey way to honor your mom on your birthday. Not many people remember the sacrifice their mother made for them in their birthday ❤️ happy birthday
Happy Birthday Kate. How meaningful to have your Mums quilt especially dedicated to you. It’s so beautiful, something to treasure always. I love your chats, even though I live on the other side of the world I feel we are old friends, you have become so special to me through the power of social media. Have a wonderful day.
Lovely quilt your mom made and so many lives touched by her generosity and caring nature, which I think you also have. I think moms in general are too often taken for granted until they are gone. Happy birthday, Kate, you share it with my oldest granddaughter, Erin, who will be 19 tomorrow. Lovely geese blocks and I look forward to seeing the finished quilt.
What precious memories ❤️. I love EPP. I have a feeling sweet Agnes may one day sleep under her great grandmother’s flower garden. What fabulous stories you and Martha can share with her.
What a lovely photo of your mom and the quilt she made you is beautiful. I’m sorry for your loss. I loss my mom 13 Feb last year and still have a hard time. She was 90. I know how hard it is. I got tears in my eyes you talking about your mom. Happy Birthday Kate🦋
Birthday Greeting for tomorrow Kate x Your quilt lovingly hand stitched by your mum Is precious but so are you - as your Mum hand stitched on the quilt. Hope you have sweet dreams of your darling Mum and thanks for sharing your gorgeous quilt. X

Happy birthday! I’ve decided the precious things are the things to use, they won’t be more precious to anyone else. Love them and use them.
That's what I've told our family when I give them quilts. I ask them to please, Use them!

My great grandmother made my mother and sister quilts. I have one of them and cherish it and wont let anyone touch it so i understand completely.
Your Mum's lovely, spectacular quilt with her label, charm and what she wrote is so very special.....
Such a wonderful, touching story and incredibly beautiful quilt! You are right. It's too precious to use. TFS the inspiration, Kate!
Memories of our moms are so precious.
What a beautiful quilt and a great memory you could pass down to your granddaughter.
That quilt is a treasure and it is just beautiful. Unbelievably lovely.
I do believe those lozenge shapes in your mom’s quilt are in fact leaves! Green leaves to match the flower garden. What a lovely gift she gave you!
You brought a tear to my eye!, your Mum's quilt is beautiful!
Your Grandmothers Flower Quilt is so pretty. What a treasure from your mom.
Ahhhh....I LOVE the Flower Garden quilt that your Mom so lovingly made for you!
....and Happy, Happy Birthday!!!!
What a precious sentiment Kate. What a lovely gift to sleep under your Mother’s beautiful quilt on your birthday! Happy Birthday!
Your Moms quilt is absolutely beautiful. What a great memory of your mom. The both of you have so much talent. Happy Birthday from Canada. Lynda

What a beautiful hexagon quilt your dear mum made for you, I would treasure it too. Thank you for sharing it with us. X
Happy birthday, Kate! I'll be 64 in June, hooray for 1956 babies!! I hope you had lovely dreams of your Mum, sleeping under all that love. XOXO
What a beautiful heirloom, Kate. Precious memory. Thank you for sharing your mom's quilt with the rest of us.
Beautiful grandmother’s flower garden quilt. Thank you for sharing your mum’s work!

Happy birthday Kate... I'm sure your mum would be proud of how you've kept her memory alive in so many ways. Thanks you for being you. Hugs
Your Mom's quilt is so beautiful. Your sentiments brought tears to my eyes.
Since there's a hanger on it I would hang it somewhere so I could look on it daily.
Happy Birthday Kate. Have a peaceful rest with sweet dreams.
