TL;DR of this comment: Black Lion Mastery Coffers are not worth selling but they are worth using to get extra Spirit Shards if you do Mystic Forge conversions. Math below. No major disagreements on the rest of the tier list. I wanted to point out that a Black Lion Mastery Coffer gives exactly 90% of the experience necessary for a Spirit Shard. Fast-Farming Community has Spirit Shards at around 90s right now, but they're usually stable at 50-60s per for Mystic Forge conversions, putting the Mastery Coffer actually slightly ahead of the infinite gold bag. (0.9 * 60s = 54s, 54s / 15AA = 3.6s/AA vs the ~2.86s/AA of an infinite gold bag. At 50s per shard, it's still 3s/AA on the BLMC. It's pretty marginal, but I have limited play time so Spirit Shards are at a premium for me and I just use the potions instead of selling them to get the extra Spirit Shards. Once I run out of legendary equipment to craft, I'll probably feel different. (I mention the Mystic Forge conversions because of the gold analysis, but I don't do those because I don't have enough Spirit Shards to do those and craft my second/third set of legendary armor, 4th legendary weapon, etc)
Build templates you can save the link in a notepad for free and then copy paste for each build you want. Admittedly it's 3 clicks instead of one but still saves you astral acclaim or gems :)
… or a note in Steam Overlay (using -provider Portal of course), Xbox Gamebar or similar. So you don't even have to really leave the game to search around in some folder.
I made music clovers for my first legendary and I've never needed to make a single one since. They just accumulate fast enough that when you have gold to spend on making something that needs them you typically have plenty on hand already.
A new player who thought the mastery box thingy gives you one mastery point per chest and bought all of them and wasted EVERYTHING just because he was lazy to read what it does :P yup that's me
Well yeah, at least that wasn't my priority as a new player, I went for the ascended gear with weapon but sadly the other mistake I did was that I sold all the mystic coins I bought
It is almost twice the tome tho so it should be under that regardless. I think both in B unless you have a ton of spirit shards fall out of you then it's C.
As a veteran player who hasn't done much mastery hunting once I got my griffon and jackal the mastery exp options helped to speed through those mount mysteries since I was sitting on quite a few skill points but it wasn't ground breaking.
Ok hear me out, tomes of knowledge are 8. Vision Crystals are 150 divided by the 20 spirit shards needed for Augur's stone, so 7.5 astral acclaim per level plus some bonus mats. If you are not max mastery and need a Vision crystal, it's not TOO bad
Build Storage is great for experimenting if you want to save a build and then mess around. But that’s the only reason I’ve ever used it. I find the 2 Build Templates you get per character is generally enough for me being casual. But I also have 1 of each class plus some alts to park so I guess it’s easy for me to use certain classes for certain content.
I feel like the mastery chests aren't noob trap tier. They're a little less than 1 spirit shard for 2x the cost of the tomes. I feel like that'd put them more solidly in C tier than noob trap tier, since they do have a use.
Most noobs won't be able to use them though since they probably won't have their masteries maxxed. And when doing that it's mastery points, not experience that's holding people back usually.
I still think that permanent account boosts are never a bad thing. It will add up, not making you rich, but for example reduce the gold you loose by teleporting to wp's. I'd even argue that the legendary starter kit is a noob trap, as gen 3 legendaries are way easier to craft, bring alot of gold and enable you to simply buy the legendaries that are currently on discount because of the kit.
I swear imagine that dude that sold stacks upon stacks of mystic coins back in the day, must feel like the guy who bought a pizza with 10000 bitcoin in the early 2010s

I am with you on the build templates. I think it was a way for Anet to just harvest more money from you before it entered the vault. They tried to create a need that works like bagslots and is per character which is garbage. Also agree on the ascended gear. It is not too complicated to stat select, but it is a waste of time that can be fixed with a click and statselect. It also is not new players friendly. Give them all the stats, who cares if they get all stats from HoT it is a like what 8 years or even more content. Make it easier for new players.
I'm guessing the reason for them not just being stat selectable is that each stat combination comes with it's own unique skin, and it's likely too hard for them to code it in such a way that the game recognises what stats you selected and automatically changes the weapon into that skin. Which also leads to the next limitation which is that if you need to keep this format of choosing a named box, it's less desirable to add more options because the box list becomes so long that it might even become more overwhelming for new players having to scroll down this huge list of boxes and figure out which stats to choose.
On the mastery XP as a noob trap. I definitely bought them all as a new player, but my reasoning was that when I got to HoT, the MSQ kept telling me I had to learn masteries to progress the story and I wasn't getting anywhere near enough xp to keep up with it so I used these to progress a lot and keep the MSQ moving. This probably wasn't an issue when it first released, but for me a few weeks ago, it was incredibly frustrating to deal with.
You can buy them from various places, with a combination of karma + map currencies. LW3 is a good spot because of Winterberry farming. Or with pure karma, at the Temple of Balthazar in Orr after the event chain is done.
The upgrade extractor is something you get when you have a use for it. Otherwise it should be left alone. If you’re playing lots of content and getting lots of drops with runes / sigils or changing your build a lot, that counts as having a use.
upgrade extractors i get all of them every patch - they seem innocuous but previously they were almost fully gemstore exclusive. been playing 3 years and while i got quite a lot of gemstore consummables likd revive orb n black lion salvage kits, i dont think ive ever hotten upgrade extractors for free in game before. so having them in the quarterly vault is a Huge Deal
I actually had several zones with an excess of MP and not enough XP, particularly in HOT. The Mastery XP was very useful for getting those masteries without having to slog through the HOT zones. That said said, I actually do like Verdant Brink and Auric Basin, but still have no desire to farm them for XP. After you exhaust your excess MP, I agree the Mastery XP is a bad buy. It can be a good pick for the right player, in the right situation, until it's not anymore. I liked when you could get decent shards from them.
the black lion salvage kit should be higher than the 35 aa for 1 gold. for 50 aa, you get 25 salvages with an increased chance at ecto, and there are plenty of exotic items that have sigils/runes that are worth more than the price of the item on the trading post. it is definitely really high gold value for aa
Making it possible to earn far more than you can hold means they can set the prices low enough that people who don't do all the achievements can still buy a lot of stuff, and capping how much you can hold at once means players who can do all of them can't save up enough to buy all the new rewards as soon as they come
I think you forget how hard/slow it can be to get spirit shards before you max out multiple masteries sets. Yeah after you can get a lot but until then it's pretty slow so some that are related to those could be argued higher tier for anyone w/o maxed masteries.
I do that too. Cbf with these notes, it don't think it's really efficient, but on the other hand it somewhat is, because I don't spent the aa on anything but the gold anyway in the end
Weapons are not worth at all. if you need Research Notes is A LOT better just transform your astrals into gold them buy something like potions to salvage, even with luck shot on salvage weapons rolls for research notes. However ARMOR is super efficient excluding coats, since for some reason they suck for Research Notes. Also, any weapon/armor that you have and cant salvage with research salvages kit you can throw them at mystic forge and swap their attribute so after that you ll be able to salvage them.
I had to pause the video because I was laughing so hard when Teapot said that "you don't have to pick and choose" because you (meaning everyone) are always going to max out your Astral Aclaim, implying that you can buy everything in the Wizard's Vault, every day, week, and quarter. I guess when he says "You", he's only talking to the other "No Life" players who play so many hours of GW2 every day, week, month, year, that they all max out the amount of Astral Aclaim for each of those reward track periods. I've been playing GW2 since shortly after launch, and I try to log into the game every day, if I can, plus I'm retired, so I probably have more free time than the average player, but I don't always get the daily reward, rarely get all of the weekly rewards, and have never maxed out the quarterly rewards. This is just another example of Teapot living in an alternate reality that most players don't have the luxury to live in, and it doesn't seem to me that he realizes this fact, or if he does, he often overlooks that fact. I'm not knocking him for his choices or lifestyle, just pointing out the facts that it's not typical.
I still buy the 2% gold increase after I got everything else that I'm interested in, just to get rid of my AA... if you do every weekly and almost every daily you will have so much AA that it doesn't really matter anymore. And before people say "take the gold instead", I have almost 10k gold already so I don't really need that either lol
Upgrade extractor and black lion salvage kit are great when you have lots of alts and get legendaries... Also the black lion salvage kit doesn't salvage upgrades, it extracts them...
As someone who's actively been playing the game for 10 years, I'm now down to 100 spirit shards... So, I wouldn't actually put the mastery thing in "noob trap" as I do end up purchasing them for additional spirit shards :) Not the best value maybe, but you still end up having more Astral coins than you probably need. Transmutation charges and revive orbs, on the other hand, are entirely useless for me.
Cool thing I found probably I am still hella noob, and found that the all stats gear become more viable than berserker or viper nowadays if you gonna play all contents than just fractals or raids
I would say the vision crystal is atleast B Tier. U save 20 spirit shards. and if u already got everything as a beginner and want to get the obisidian armor u need atleast 6 of those
Build storage templates are 3 builds account wide versus one per character and only take one extra click to use. Absolutely worth it. Unless you are not using them right?
Only a few things I absolutely disagree with: Tome of Knowledge is ridicilously cheap and even if you don't think about the profit, for PvE player who doesn't have a char for all classes yet (which is probably most of the playerbase) it's awesome. Also Revive Orb the same tier as Tome of Knowledge or even repeatable 1 gold bag???? Next time you use revive orb think about almost 3g you just flushed into the toilet IN THE WORST CASE. In better case (if you didn't already buy everything better from wizard's vault) it's even more expensive lol. These things would be good at like 30 aa, not 95
I like build storage templates. If for no other reason I don't have to spend gold on the gems store for them. Now first thing I buy using AA, no. But for IRL money saved they are at least A class since its for the entire account, not character. A few more months and i will have never bought one directly from the gem store.
If you need spirit shards, the mastery boxes aren't bad. Especially if you know how to sell legendaries. They are terrible for raw currency though. Has anyone done the math on the essence of luck for maxing account MF vs ecto salvage?
Nice video, pretty much agree with you 100% but heres a question: would the mastery xp box not be C tier for free spirit shards for those eho need spirit shards? Not saying its not a noob trap for new player, but for veterns is it not worth while to get quick spirit shards which is the same reasoning as the tome of knowledge? Let me know what you guys think.
Revive Orbs straight from the Wizards' Vault aren't so bad for doing APs or JPs. (Do you really really want to redo all those story steps, or just continue right now?)
Anyone else feel like this is cheating? I love it because as a newer player it helps me get to endgame content much faster (access to ascendant gear), but at the same time I'm aware that it would have taken sooooooooooooo much more time to get a full set of ascendant armor with out it.
Yeah I genuinely think giving new players premium stuff this easily is overall a pretty bad thing. There's already so little vertical progression in this game that getting end game gear handed to you early takes the fun and purpose out of that stage of the game. I had crafted my first set of ascended gear and there was such a feeling of accomplishment, like it was my first stepping stone to earning my "no longer a noob" status. It became very sentimental to me because in the end it was more about the journey of crafting it rather than the destination of having it that felt good. I think being able to get very cheap/easy ascended gear as a total beginner is just robbing players of that experience.
I would appreciate account build storage even more if there was a swap function. Otherwise you need a weird middle man. Still..awful... needs more to the functionality
27:55 I completely disagree with this. If you could select any current ascended stat set, then there would be no incentive to acquire the recipes and craft them. They need to retain some incentive to craft ascended gear, do content, or stat swap for it rather than just buying it with astral acclaim. Maybe your new character is using trailblazers stats from gear they acquired in the astral acclaim store, but you know that vipers would have been better. You have a great set to get started with, but you also have something to pursue.
Okey i'm gona change your mind about the vision crystal. For this im assuming you play casually gw2 only few hours a day so you don't have infinite bloodstone dust, dragonite ore and Empyreal Fragment. To craft a vision crystal you need 500 each,150 Thermocatalytic Reagent and 30 Obsidian Shards. Lets ignore the Obsidian Shards, 150 Thermocatalytic Reagent is 2,24 gold. If you have Gleam of Sentience you can turn the bricks into Fluctuating Mass that you can mage gold from salvaging the gear. From scrapping 1500 worth Fluctuating Mass you can make 5 gold. That makes the total price of the vision crystal 7,24 gold even not counting the obsidian shards.
Well as new player i made the mistake to buy the legendary weapon set. What is it good for when i cant craft the weapon. Now the stuff rots on my bank. I thought i can sell the stuff for a good amount of money but thats not true.
The only time a vision crystal from the vault is useful is if some maniac has wired up a bomb so that the only way to disarm it is to get a vision crystal on your account, and only if you don't have much time.
I don't even care about anything in the Wizard's Vault. I just play the game and get acclaim for radom stuff I do anyway. And when my acclaim is full I buy something just to not have it be full. xD
I would say the mystic clover is worth about 2/3 that of the mystic coin per astral point, not half. The 3 coins and 3 ectos are already more than half the value, and you have to add some value for the 3 levels worth of spirit shards. That has value. I also disagree that obby shards are things you're going to be throwing away. It really depends on your focus on legendary items and the game modes you play. Personally, I find myself regularly going to buy more of them with karma. They are certainly not useless. Maybe if you're a youtube that plays the game all day every day, then maybe you'd find yourself throwing them out. Your perception of value seems to be from the hardcore gamer's perspective.
roughly 3 monthly (quarterly) and if you click on the 'special' tab of it, it shows how many days are left for the current vault - think it's around 30 days atm
I don't really see the starter kit as that much worth it, gen 1s are already less profit than a gen 3 and take 4 times as long to do the map completion. If you are gonna do a legendary and sell it might as well go for gen 3s, less time more profit AND you don't spend 1k astral acclaim.
Yeah in terms of g/h it's not great, but I feel like players like to go for legendaries and the gen 1s are pretty cool, feel a bit more special to me than gen 3. gen 2 in the vault would be based.
Luck isn't even a nubtrap for me. It's utter trash to be honest. I have maxed out magic find and 3k+ exotic luck in my bank (keeps growing) while farting an obsidian armor part like every 1-2 weeks.
The Ascended gear is for new players? Maybe if they Auto 80'd a character (or any other form of quick leveling), which I highly discourage new players to do. I say they're for veteran players that have a lot of characters and are tired to the crafting grind, or for secondary accounts.
lol, The idea of buying the noob traps first to avoid getting trapped later

I still buy the 2% gold increase after I got everything else that I'm interested in, just to get rid of my AA... if you do every weekly and almost every daily you will have so much AA that it doesn't really matter anymore. And before people say "take the gold instead", I have almost 10k gold already so I don't really need that either lol
laurels are very underrated. i use them to buy ascended accessories and they slap.
the mastry xp is still worth (not as much as before but still good) you get 228k xp from each which is almost 1 SS
I wasn't sure about those vision crystals, now I'm going to get them just to annoy you 😂
I didn’t do the math but I used AA to buy a Vision Crystal then salvaged it to get the Lesser Vision Crystals to unlock the Obsidian Armor patterns.
Equipment template is fckin useful. Build template n build storage is epic shit
Upgrade extractor and black lion salvage kit are great when you have lots of alts and get legendaries...
Also the black lion salvage kit doesn't salvage upgrades, it extracts them...
It salvages the item which destroys the item, unlike the extractor, extractor also works on ascended.
Where are people getting so many obsidian shards from? Month over month the amount I have hovers around 1k so I always get them from Wizard Vault.
Cool thing I found probably I am still hella noob, and found that the all stats gear become more viable than berserker or viper nowadays if you gonna play all contents than just fractals or raids
I love the Mastery Xps cause yummy Spirit Shards.
Oh man I've probably sold (to vendor) like 2k mystic coins back in the day. :D
Getin skins should always be top tier cause its new skin and this is fashion wars endgame
I would say the vision crystal is atleast B Tier. U save 20 spirit shards. and if u already got everything as a beginner and want to get the obisidian armor u need atleast 6 of those
The mastery chest was indeed a noob trap.... Looks like they caught a noob XD
Build storage templates are 3 builds account wide versus one per character and only take one extra click to use. Absolutely worth it. Unless you are not using them right?
The ascended chests proves that not all gear stats are created equally
Thanks for the tierlist. Very helpful, Teapot :>
i got almost 400 gold yesterday with the valt, this thing is op
I use the ascended items to create research notes. Was this list published to the Tiermaker site? I could not find it.
I use mastery potions for spirit shards, big value
Gimme equipment templates for AA!!!
If you need spirit shards, the mastery boxes aren't bad. Especially if you know how to sell legendaries. They are terrible for raw currency though. Has anyone done the math on the essence of luck for maxing account MF vs ecto salvage?
Thanks!
Mystic clovers lol
Nice video, pretty much agree with you 100% but heres a question: would the mastery xp box not be C tier for free spirit shards for those eho need spirit shards? Not saying its not a noob trap for new player, but for veterns is it not worth while to get quick spirit shards which is the same reasoning as the tome of knowledge? Let me know what you guys think.
Revive Orbs straight from the Wizards' Vault aren't so bad for doing APs or JPs. (Do you really really want to redo all those story steps, or just continue right now?)
Thats righ. Like milking an almond you got my view lol
Im surprised the cat chair was "free"
Still..awful... needs more to the functionality
mastery xp potions - not exclusively noob-trap, also veteran-who-returned-from-holiday-without-reading-release-notes-nor-wiki-trap ;-)
I was so disappointed when I bought all the ascended gear to make a healer, and then it didn't have the stats lol.
GW2 is a great War Within waiting room. Can't wait for more tier lists!
Not you posting this video a few hours after me buying the mastery box trying to get some gold 💀
I love it, i got enough gold from it to make my crafters to 500
haha skill points for tomes - that's been a while XD
wait i can change ascended stats ?
The mystic clovers are a rip off imo. When you use coins you get T6's. You need roughly 343 coins (usually 10-20 left over.)
I don't even care about anything in the Wizard's Vault. I just play the game and get acclaim for radom stuff I do anyway. And when my acclaim is full I buy something just to not have it be full. xD
I got endless upgrade extract :D so for me it's 'super ultra useless tier' :D extractor.
How often does vault reset ?
roughly 3 monthly (quarterly) and if you click on the 'special' tab of it, it shows how many days are left for the current vault - think it's around 30 days atm
falll from graceXDDDD way to put it :D
You can use you notepad as build template if you are poor like me :)
@@MightyTeapot yeah in that regard I agree.
Gen 2 would be insanely based indeed.
I dont see the legendary starter kit.
i buy the % gold find so i dont have to click as much 😥
the first thing I did was buy the cosmetics lmao
Luck isn't even a nubtrap for me. It's utter trash to be honest. I have maxed out magic find and 3k+ exotic luck in my bank (keeps growing) while farting an obsidian armor part like every 1-2 weeks.
The Ascended gear is for new players? Maybe if they Auto 80'd a character (or any other form of quick leveling), which I highly discourage new players to do. I say they're for veteran players that have a lot of characters and are tired to the crafting grind, or for secondary accounts.
build template is a noob trap for real. you can just store them in a notepad file
