Tried selling my radiators whole despite it being less money. Even though the recycler had quotes for them, they didn't want to take them because no one there wanted to deal with separating them. So instead of just trashing them (or driving a few hours out for another recycler), did the sawzall and within a couple minutes had several pipes free. I was impressed how well that went.

This a great tactic to get the copper clean, but unfortunately I have to be the guy to say this...
The copper inside the radiator is a thin walled copper tube, meaning is a quarter of the weight of the average water pipe. Secondly being it has oil residue from the ac, it's considered #2 copper.
So say the radiator in your hand is 10lbs.
    It's a 50% copper/aluminum ratio.
USING TODAYS NUMBERS AT MY LOCAL YARD:
Whole ACRs sold at $1.15/lb at 10 lbs is $11.50
    Sold after stripped is 5lbs #2 Sheet/Thin Walled at $2.00/LB is $10.00
5lbs of 1100 Aluminum Flake is at .64¢/lb equals $3.20
    TOTAL AFTER STRIPPED - $13.20
    That's a $2.20 profit. That's a lot of BS work for $2.20.
Yes, "20 seconds" for that one tube, but there are 20 other tubes in that radiator. Which means you are spending all that time to make $2.20. Just sell it whole if you ask me.

A lot of places around me simply can’t won’t take whole radiators so if you don’t take the 5 minutes to take the copper out it’s pretty useless

I saw your video on this subject of cleaning these radiators
With a sawzal but I found a way much similar to your idea using a corded multi tool and a copper pipe cutting blade it's breezy fast and a guy has some control
All thought I must say the rest is what I saw and learned from you
The tools mentioned were sitting around for ever in my shed the only draw back is the vibration on the hands the rest is breezy fast enough for me
I thought I might share my findings with you as I saw the force was strong with this one !!
I to still a Padawan learning the ways of the force
And using the Jedi scraper trick
A little bit of star wars humor
Thank you brother for sharing your time and skill with us

Finally someone else doing this 👍
BTW if you’ve got air tools a body saw is a lot easier to wield than the sawzall ... even better if the compressor runs off a solar battery ... and the found the compressor for free

Don't forget to put all your pipes in a garbage can and fill with water and white vinegar, let sit for days and rinse with a hose to get the highest copper price if you have allot of it!

I didn't think about shaving it with the sawzall! That's a good idea

Awesome idea. I was struggling to get the copper out and almost scrapped it whole. I instead used a jig saw....much lighter to hold for me.
