BlackWargreymon vs ShineGreymon - BT-15 Matchplay Commentary

We are back with some more commentary! TJ and Ben go through some matches from our recent locals at Sully's Abode. We are finally here with the end of BT-15 with an Evo Cup at Sully's Abode to cap things off. In today's match we have Justin playing BlackWargreymon going up against Jeremy who is playing ShineGreymon. We have a ton of exciting things planned for the beginning of BT-16 so be on the lookout!

Shout out to me? Shout out to you guys, there's a reason I've continued keep coming back and it's cause of everybody at locals being so darn nice.
Things to consider when watching this match up:
This was round 4 of the Evo Cup, Justin and I were both 1-1-1 going into this. I was of the opinion that this match probably wouldn't be enough for either of us to make Top 4, and so I played a little more for fun than I should've.
We were just hitting the point where locals would normally be wrapping up for the night, but we had another round after this: so it ended up being almost 2 extra hours that night of games. I was getting a bit fatigued too.
WarGreymon and ToolboxGreymon has basically been the only builds that have popped up in the shop for the last 6 to 7 months, Pure BWG Control hasn't been on my mind for ages. It's also been a hot minute since I've last seen the Black base used over Red, and I once again forgot that the Agumon and Greymon gain memory when you raid/block.
BWG is really good at removing tamers if you aren't just able to spam the board with them, and half the game I was just not seeing the pieces I needed.
Justin told me at the start of the match that he was playing in the Ultimate Cup this past weekend with BWG, so once the match started going south for me I just started helping him out by pointing out the effects he was forgetting. No reason not to try and help him there, the cards were not being kind to me at all this match.

To answer more specific Questions from the Video:
4:22 - Every check I made this night with something important on board ended up being something that would kill that important body, every single game. I got hungry for security damage instead of just going into a level 5 and dropping a Memory setter. It's really frustrating. This was also the last level 4 I'd see until it didn't matter anymore.
5:40 - I don't remember if I had seen that he was running Yuuyas yet, but I knew that he didn't have the Tai unless he drew one for the start of turn. I accounted for Justin Raiding, but I forgot that the Starter deck Greymon support just gained memory on a redirect, I would've just passed otherwise.
14:55 - Got a little Greedy here, if Marcus checked another low body or another set up option I had game: But I only had game IF I removed one security first with Marcus. I had the Burst Mode in hand, and with everything else on board, it'd have been enough to clear Justin out. Playing safe would've just let Justin survive with 0 security, but I don't know what the last 2 checks were and in the actual game I was never able to swing into security again.
18:40 - About Holy Sunshine, I hate this card so much. I kept forgetting to reduce the cost by 1 since I had a tamer, but that's not why I hate it. I swapped to Yellow Base Shine to take advantage of cards like Reinforcing Memory and Bt14 Patamon, but in doing so I also removed cards like Crimson Blaze because in a worst case scenario I wouldn't have the red source to use it. It was a silly thought, but that's why I only have dual colored options and pure yellow ones. Holy Flame only gives one body -3 sec in hand and -1 sec to the board from security, that wouldn't matter this match anyway since Justin wasn't swinging for more than one check at a time. Odin's Breath is also clunky because it only starts to function once the global Sec level hits 6, which also wouldn't have worked this match. The yellow Bt10 Pulsemon option is fine, but it doesn't play out tamers nor reduce its own cost. Holy Sunshine is an 8 cost (or 7) but it prevents wide boards from just running away with all the security checks, though not as well as Crimson Blaze or Odin's Breath would.
21:00 - If there's one thing that Black Base Greymon does really well, it's making sure that they have all the DP they could ever want to avoid reduction effects. That's not even talking about how Bt11 MetalGreymon X prevents DP reduction for a turn cycle or how Yuuya puts an extra 2K dp with Option Immunity (if you evolve into a same level Greymon) for a turn cycle as well. My Yellow Base Shine was optimized specifically to DP reduce everything, I didn't really have an out to a super high dp body untouchable from my main removal.
23:30 - I tell Justin here that he has game whenever he wants to take it, but he wanted to do his evolutions. I'm not gonna stop him by flipping my security early, but I am just waiting for him to let the match end. I had already checked my trash and only Sunrise Buster was possibly in Security, but it wasn't.
Sorry if that seems a little salty, time ended up getting called about a minute after the recording stops; I got thrashed for ~45 minutes on camera, and he chooses to not swing for game immediately.

I was just a little cautious about what those last two cards were and wanted to rather be safe than sorry and one of my weaknesses is that I do tend to overthink at times but I wasn’t trying to rub salt in the wound and appreciate you being patient.

I can post the list if you want but it was really designed for BT15 so specifically Mirage(I’m looking at you Ben 🫵🏾😂) and Red Hybrid and tbh I don’t know how good it is into BT16.

Game 1 is prime example of why most of the time unless you fear a security option (which shine doesn’t really play) just swing the bwgx first then hades force in case you hit a tamer. There’s literally no reason to do it the opposite. It actually comes up a lot when you’re playing the deck

I was worried about hitting Marcus’ when I didn’t have a BWG or Hades Force in hand. That’s why I held off on swinging at certain points.
