      Kimbrel was in the last year of a 3 year, $43 million deal, on a rebuilding team. No way he wasnt going to be traded. Also, if you go back and look at the playoff teams that year, none really NEEDED a closer. Getting anything back was better than just letting him walk. He's on his 4th team since being traded by the Cubs. Hardly a -5 trade.

      Stroman was a beast in 2023, into June, with only 3 starts allowing more than 2 ER......then the wheels fell off. While he was a big part of the downfall, that year, he was a HUGE part of the rise in the first half. They got fair value for Stroman and I see it as a 0. Lastly, they couldn't trade him last year, he was injured from July 31 through September 15 and gave up 17 ER (10 innings) in his last three starts before going down.

    • @tinman67tn
      @tinman67tn 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You gonna give the Contreras, non trade, a -5? This isn't MLB TheShow. You don't make a trade, just to make a trade. You said it yourself, they best offer they got was from the Astros and it wasn't much of an offer, though I wouldn't have minded landing Uriquidy. If Jed didn't like any of the return packages, why make the trade? I just don't think there was a market for Contreras and to blame Jed is assinine. As for Happ, they decided he would man LF for the next 3 years or so. GG defense and top 3 at his position since he became a starter. No issues with keeping Happ.

    • @tinman67tn

      Swanson's final stats in 2023, were right in line with his career 162 game averages. Not to mention, couch GM's were screaming for Jed to get at least one of the 4 big SS available. Well, I think they got the right one.

    • @tinman67tn
      @tinman67tn 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The Mancini deal gets a -5 because it blocked Mervis? Mervis has all but proven he's a AAAA player and it saddens me to say that. I was praying he would have come in and rake. Mancini was a a backup play to Hosmer. Hosmer had ZERO chance of making it to June on the team. The signing of Mancini showed that they didn't have complete faith in Mervis and rightfully so.

    Here is the thing with Jed, why won’t he call any prospects up? Davis, Canario, Moises etc like stop calling up guys like Mastrobouni who have no future with us. Be aggressive. If you aren’t going to call them up then trade them! I’m tired of him and the front office constantly talking about how they have such a great farm. If that’s the case, where the hell are these prospects they speak of and why aren’t they helping this current team? See what you have!!! So frustrating.

    Cubs manager gives an interview on espn sunday night baseball. He gives the PCA resume. "He runs great, he hit a triple last night, he's an electric defender, and even though he did not catch the short fly ball he was in perfect position to gun the runner going from 2nd to 3rd. PCA has NOT been caught stealing yet. He's electric." ETC ETC. Not exact quotes but close. And yet? PCA only plays 2 days a week. That's how stupid Craig is.

    100% the doing of the shameful little man. jed is practically a criminal for what he did to Rossy and our team. We were on the right track and even ahead of schedule. We were one of the very best teams in baseball for a big part of last season. Almost every position overperformed due to having a leader who genuinely cares about the team, the fans and the teams historic culture. We had the best locker room and the most positive vibe in all of baseball, maybe all of sports. David Ross is not a super young man, but he was a very young manager. He had us exactly where we needed to be and on an extreme upward trajectory. We were set for decades of stability and winning!! hoyer destroyed it all in one day and should hold the blame for it all, and should not be allowed to walk in the door of our building. Theo must be ashamed of himself for ever putting that creature in charge of our beloved Cubs. I'm so sad that so few of our fans stood up for our hero, who was a huge part of making our dreams come true once before and naturally accepted his next role as our leader. It's not too late. Hoyer should be banished and take his friend the Brewers manager with him. Due to the shameful and heartless timing as well, our great Manager is still available and I'm sure he would forgive the team and those who let him down. He's a real man and a real leader, which hoyer wouldn't recognize if he was punched in the mouth by one.

    This is a great video my only criticism is that those were not all of his signings either, I definitely would grade at least some of the cubs top prospects he drafted. Like Horten would be +5 and Jordan Wicks would be +2. Shaw is too early to grade in my opinion to even count. I don't think Jeds the problem to be fair, he has built an incredible foundation that most teams would kill for in such short time since Rizzo/Byrant/Baez being traded. Not calling up the prospects is smart, its a lost season, no worth speeding up their service time especially with the great incentives if one wins ROY or another awards for more completive balance picks.

Another move that should be graded (like your argument of Mancini impact on Mervis) is keeping Mastrobuoni and Torrens on the starting 2023 team and not bringing Morel up until the middle of May. That was bonkers. Also loving on Mastrobuoni and leaving Bote in the minors for a year and a half is unexplainable. Don’t tell me one is left handed, it doesn’t matter where he stands if he can’t hit. Bote can, and was hot in spring training (5 HR). Now Tauchman (OF) goes down and they bring up Mastrobuoni again when they need offense. Hello? Nonsense.

    Jed is to blame for not signing more players to fill the glaring needs . Closer and a true DH and some middle relief . But you can’t not blame Counsell. He has us in the cellar. Basically the same team as Ross had in a much better situation and had them playing better . And Counsell is the highest paid manager in history . Are the players underachieving ? Yes . Who’s that fall on . The manager . Because they are across the board except for starting pitching . I never thought they should have gotten rid of Ross and I never understood the love for Counsell . He’s 1-5 in the playoffs .the one he won was a one off . That’s a horrible playoff record and last year they lost two home games in a best of three and were out of the playoffs . The Brewers . This team played better under Ross . Period. And yes it was Hoyer who did Ross dirty once Counsell was available . So yes it’s Hoyer to blame !

    I don’t like Hoyer but this list seems a bit too critical of him. In my opinion it is way too early to rate Taillon or Swansons contracts. Also why would Jed trade Wilson if he couldn’t find a suitor? Same with Happ. I wouldn’t be too critical of those non-trades because the return wasn’t going to be enough to warrant the trades in the first place. As it stands today, I agree that Mancini is the worst move he’s made. However Jed’s problem is there haven’t been a statement move in either direction. That is Jed’s problem. He hasn’t done anything that would wow you.

    Hoyer became the de facto team president when Theo resigned on November 20, 2020. On December 3rd, Schwarber was non-tendered and became a free agent. On December 30th, Darvish and Caratini were dealt to the Padres for Davies and a group of 4 low-level prospects. Caissie is obviously promising but those two decisions are easily a combined -8. • @tinman67tn

    On this date, last year, the Cubs were 35-38. I'm impressed they are where they are after all the injuries, this year, the hitters forgetting how to hit for over a month and NO ONE in the bullpen being consistant. MLB plays 2-10 times as many games as any other sport and to live and die with every game is ridiculous. Can it be frustrating? Of course it is, but take a second and just enjoy a game every now and then. Lastly, I'm tired of the "blame game". In 2024, there are 10 teams with payrolls over $200 million and 6 of them own records UNDER .500. Throwing money around doesn't equal wins.

      They’ve blown 16 of 32 saves in 2024. That is the guys Hoyer decided would be his bullpen. Counsell had one and usually two elite closers in Milwaukee making his 7-8-9 innings easy to manage. This year 1-6 is easy because the starters have been good. The combination of the disappointing offense and the bad arms in the bullpen have made 7-8-9 a nightmare. Did he tell Counsell his elite bullpen is Alzolay and Neris when the season started? Grade the blown saves too.

      @@JCar0106 Alzolay was solid and Neris was lights out in 2023. Merryweather and Leiter were also good. No one saw this coming. If you say you did, I'd have to call you a liar. Nothing Hendricks did last year would have pointed to his awful run thus far.

      @@SetupManCubs I get that, but this team is right where they were last year and the track records of these players say their play thus far is NOT them and they will go on a run.

      @@tinman67tn Fair opinion. My point was Counsell got to work with “elite” closers in Milwaukee and we see what Hoyer provided. Which of the Cubs closers are elite? Like Knebel or Hader or Williams level elite, like Milwaukee has run out for the last 8 years in a row? Ben Brown is the closest pitcher they have that could be an elite closer. Maybe with Hendricks pitching better when Brown is back he can be tried there, although I’m sure he wants to be a starter. Unfortunately the Cubs have to acquire closers because they can’t identify or develop talent at that position.

    I would sacrifice my third born son for Theo to come back! I only have one son though so that may be a problem. Everyone needs to CALM DOWN! We aren't even half way through the season yet and we aren't in the strongest division in baseball. One good streak and we are back in contention. Now if we are under 500 by the end of August then we can start calling for Jed's head! That's fun to say, Jesus head. Its like maybe baby!
