I love all the trackmania games besides the DS games but still, stadium is the best environment which you dont have in both original and sunrise. So I cant pick those 2 as my favorite, allthough comparing those 2 they are pretty equal to me. The game that bothers me most is tm turbo since it contains STM's that are cheated by using slow motion (not that I tried getting those yet, or ever will). I usually go for author medals and turbo demotivates me in a way.
Lack of actual interesting commentary is definitely holding you back. A SINGLE sentence for any of these games explaining things about it would make this video from mediocre to good.

I got the subscription for a year but ended up barely playing because I started trackmania original somehow, now I moved on to sunrise and probably go trough the series again and by the time the tm2020 subscription ends you can bet I'm ready for tm2020. I dont mind the subscription though, there is a lot worse out there. Look at ea games. +1000€ for all sims4 games (expansion packs that mostly already existed in the sims3 but on purpose left out to milk out money from people) and if you are tired of it for a while and go inactive for a few years then it's account deleted and you can rebuy everything you owned (if you dont pirate them the second time around like most sane people would after that scam)
