This just brought me back to being a kid again. Loved building the Comet models over 50 years ago. The smell of the Ambroid glue and clear dope would really stink up the house. Still have a few of these models in the boxes that I may get too some day.
It is a good idea to make a small sanding block by glueing glasspaper to a piece of balsa, that way you do not get any dips when sanding the structure prior to covering, good to see a company like VMC producing real balsa kits like this P-51.
Very attractive kit you fancy there mate. Quick building and accurate lines. Thanks for sharing, there is something therapeutic about building models!!!
...T-pins, Ambroid, get'n a head rush while applying Dope to balsa and silkspan having to wait overnight for stuff to dry and whatnot. It was the best of times, I remember it well but I still say thank God for Monokote, Zap Ca glues and ARFs 👍🏿
Hey, this is a really cool model and I may actually get myself one but it would br awesomr if you could link all the recomended/mentioned tutorials in the I-Card
Nice video as always! I noticed in the last videos you are using one of this cork pin boards as build surface, just like I do :) I removed the frame on mine so that the whole board sits flat on the table. This way it does not bend when you push the pins in as can be seen in some of the shots. Of course this only works if you don't have to return the pin board to the office later for its regular use :)
One thing I would suggest is to check all the straight stock. I remember many Guillow’s kits would come out slightly warped when I didn’t have perfectly straight stock to begin with. Those always wound up as hangers.
Harlan Mote seriously?? Man, I never heard of that, LOL! That changes things, as the last couple flyers I made, I spent a long time at my supplier inspecting stock.
You wont beleive this, but I am sorting out my r/c aircraft to fly again after 15 or so years and I have this exact rubber band p51 and have thought about converting it myself to r/c!!!!!
Nice! This one is a new kit designed in the last few years to be laser cut and precision engineered. You should definitely try building your kit with R/C! www.vintagemodelcompany.com/p-51d-mustang.html
I've got the VMC BF109 Messerschmitt model in this same series, and would like to hear some opinions on how to cut the slots in the nose cone. It doesn't come with any markings on it, so I'm kind of at a loss for how to cut the slots and make it look decent. Thanks in advance! By the way, love this company and the videos that they put out. Will certainly be buying more from them in the future. Even with the cost of international shipping.
this is my second account, my primary account is Abel siegstad. I commented with that account 4 hours ago. Im really happy because i found this channel, i really like wooden models. I alwasy wanted one because they are really cool, im disappointed because they little bit expensive i know they are only like 35 pounds but in my country they are like 315 danish krones, im from Greenland and we use Danish krones
Excellent introductory video (I am new to the hobby). I hope you make more on related subjects such as; "dope", various covering techniques, trimming (how does the plane fly in perfect circles when all the parts are straight?). Also, thank you for keeping the music low (I have hearing problems). New subscriber, lot to learn, and thanks again.
Nice plane. But so much work to build such a small plane (460mm span). Please can your company look at making quality RC kits in the 1200mm to 1400mm range? We could do with more classic British planes that could be flown in classic British weather!
Not quite sure what you mean by so much work ? everything is laser cut so no cutting out for a start and assembly virtually clicks together, the fun is in the building of these lightweight gems and now the Spektrum brick receivers are available ideal for radio conversion and they fly well too.
@@angelreading5098 I'm not knocking very small balsa planes. Its great that people want to build and fly them. I have seen people getting a lot out of flying very small planes on Radio Control - although they tend to rely on gyro stabilization to make it do-able in a breeze outside. I'm just asking for larger versions!
I have just pretty well finished the assembly of each part and am almost ready to put everything together. If anyone is actually going to build this model it would be a good idea to look through the plans several times and read the booklet first before starting. Also look at Rob Brennan RC's channel - he covers the build pretty comprehensively but there are gaps ! I found references to a few parts in the booklet which I couldn't find on the plan though they are not fundamental to finishing the build. The plans in the kit are confusing in places and the aileron hinge lines are drawn on the plan in thin air for both wings ! if you are expecting engineering standard drawings you will be disappointed.
Nice. I did a balsa and tissue rubber band model the 1970s. The rubber band motor was unimpressive, so it eventually ended up on the end of a string where I would swing it around control-line style. ;-) Cool video.
The thumb nail shows an RC transmitter but the model was not modified for RC! I have built this model and it does work well when rubber powered because it does not need much lead up front in order to get the CoG right due to the long nose.
I really like your models, but the cost of international shipment will kill your oportunitys, I know it is out of your control, have you ever try normal package for export? Try to copy the aliexpress shipment of 2 or 3 months, pretty sure is the only way your company will grow
A bit rushed to help a novice in my view. No advice as to the best paper to put over the plans to stop the balsa wood sticking to it. Not showing the covering of the frame is a major omission. Why ?
Order one of these kits from our VMC aeroworks! 📦 Worldwide shipping available 🌎 www.vintagemodelcompany.com/p-51d-mustang.html
Memory lane. Built dozens of balsa models in my early teens. Great fun.

me: watches entire video to find out how he is going to skin the frame
video: skips the entire thing

Awesome little model, dude! Great job! 😃
Hello I am from Portugal and I like your videos
I can't recall the brand, but I built one of those around 1973. No small radios, so I left it rubber band powered as packaged.
I have this one, I love it!

Good vid 👍
This is really cool! Do you plan to allow payments with Ideal or Sofort in the future?
One thing I would suggest is to check all the straight stock. I remember many Guillow’s kits would come out slightly warped when I didn’t have perfectly straight stock to begin with. Those always wound up as hangers.
Ross Potts mist the wood with water and pin to the plan and let dry, I’ve done it many times.
Harlan Mote seriously?? Man, I never heard of that, LOL! That changes things, as the last couple flyers I made, I spent a long time at my supplier inspecting stock.
Do you need to have pins when building or is that not essential
Where do I find the pin board?
Link NOT in description
the dihedral angle does not go together properly for me could anyone help me out on this?

What is the long part of wood at 0:34 ? That you put in the middle of the wing, I dont find the part At scale
It is one of the pieces of strip wood that have to be cut to your measurement I believe.

Or for an extra fee, send larger plans and a Bill Of Materials.

You forgot to mention you have to knoch most of the runner tracks gellow dosnt do it.
Can you recommend a motor and Esc?

How many centimeters long plane 1400 kv 2 m motor will be built?

Not a good beginner kit....go for something with a box-shaped fuselage and high-wing - for easy building and stable flying.
Retro Guillows kits have this configuration.
oooooooooooh thats how you build theses... woops

We do pretty decent shipping rates at around £5 to the states on these kits. 👍
Good as far as it went, but no real reason the leave the model incomplete.
How can I buy it??
See the links listed below the video.

Flight video please
Use pin clamps to hold the parts to the board. You can buy them, but they are easy to make.

This time I'll use woodprix instructions to make it by my hand :)

Pre-made planes assembly shouldn't be called "how to make" you didn't make it. Rather than name the rest is great
if you look at the length of the vid, that should help in the future
Why does an American company manufacture in the UK? America could produce the rolls royce merlin better than rolls royce itself
Woodglut plans are amazing!
I heard very good opinions about the Woodglut plans.
Stodoys plans are amazing!
