You tickle me, and remind of my Granma. She would bake for my sisters, and myself. Her kitchen always smelled wonderful. She ate first too 😂. A beautiful memory. Thank you for sharing your recipe.
Thank you. My granny made these for me over 60 years ago. I could not stop eating them. My 3 brothers were lucky to get any. I’m going to surprise them at our next gathering. You are so sweet for sharing.
This is a keeper recipe. A lady shared it will me well over 20 years ago and I literally make these for people every month. Recipes shouldn’t be hoarded. Thanks for watching.
I have been searching for an old fashioned tea cake recipe for ages! Thank you so much Ms. Val for sharing ! I look forward to seeing more of your recipes.
I been making Tea cakes since i learned from my creole grandpa 42years ago!! You got it about right 😉❤❤ nobody knew what these were and its my childhood 💕 love
Yep they are delicious and can be made so many different ways. Some like sugar on top. Some just like them plain. I personally like using the 4 flavors. Folks can’t get enough of them!
@@ValTaylor yes they are. I have never eaten them with sugar on top. I think that would take away from the soothing smooth nutmeg flavor. I am going to make some today. The smell is hypnotizing ❤️❤️once I eat one it's over I can't stop!!
Awesome! Thank you for sharing! I just made a batch this past week for holiday tins as gifts. Placing the dough in the fridge really makes the dough more manageable!
Thank you for sharing that a lot of our Mom’s and Granny’s recipes have gotten lost because of a lot of reasons, but I thank you for sharing this recipe that someone else shared with you. God bless you😊
I love this recipe! Thank you for sharing! Second recipe that I have come across that uses all the extracts and fresh ground nutmeg! One recipe added an 1/8 teaspoon of ground ginger, and used evaporated milk in place of the whole milk buttermilk! Some use shortening or a combo of both butter and shortening! I think that I will use real butter and butter flavored Crisco. I think that the shortening stabolizes the dough so that don't have to refrigerate the dough unless you want to! Refrigerating the dough does allow the extracts and spice of the nutmeg marry to make a better tasting cookie/cake! I might even add the 1/8 teaspoon of ground ginger!
Thank you for sharing I can't wait to try these tea cakes. I have never had a tea cake. Completely agree with sharing recipes and info so it is not lost.
Thanks for sharing, my mom born in Mississippi used to make tea cakes but never wrote her recipe down. Now that she’s is no longer with us Ive had to try different recipes to reproduce the taste I remember growing up. Will try this recipe, looks very close to hers.
Most recipes just use vanilla extract. I got this recipe from a lady at a car dealership while we were waiting on our cars over 25+ years ago. It has been my favorite and I’m asked all the time to make these. I hope you enjoy them.
