I think that might be the most perfect, most beautiful bike you've EVER had on your channel, Joe! Just awesome!
To the seller! Thank you for taking such good care of your machine.
I bought the same bike from a Yamaha mechanic in 1968 when I was 17. It was heavily modified. The mechanic 9-ported the cylinders, put on larger carbs, straight cut primary gears and added expansion chambers. It was a very fast wheelie machine. I took it to Lion’s drag strip where it ran in the high 14’s in the 90s mph. I later sold it to my neighbor who got a ticket the first day and lost his license. He pulled a second gear wheelie across an intersection right in front of a cop. We all laughed hard about that one. You are so lucky to find this bike in good shape. Love your channel.
Awesome Love it I think you should take i back over to her in the spring and Take her for one last ride with you !!! She was such a good care taker of this bike it shows it meant a lot to her !!!
This bike is pure history for me, I was 22 years old when this machine was first on the road -marvelous job Joe !
😭This cycle looks like an antique and it is younger than I am by a few years
Judging by what you drained out of the gas tank, the bike runs on Guinness.
cheers!
Obviously a well loved bike. It would be very interesting to hear her story. I wonder how she chose it when there were many to choose from back then. My wife says it looks sky blue and summery and probably caught a young girls eye. I'm sure it was hard for her to let it go. Hats off to her spirit 😊
Easiest way to check if 6 or 12v is pull the rear bulb. It'll usually be stamped on the bulb. 6v or 12v.
For the tank, I recommend evaporust for a few days. And then caswell tank sealer.
That bike is a museum piece. Great find! The tank needs some serious cleaning inside though. Fill it with Evaporust and let it soak for a few days.
You should take the key cluster away before it scratches the head light. A beautiful find
I was thinking on the same lol!😉
Good call!
Once the weather gets warmer, See if the Lady would want take it for a ride. I'm sure it would bring back some fond memories.
Yeah .... a young lady riding that screamer to work daily in 1966 woulda been unique, and cool as hell. Grandma was a hellion fer shur 😅
@@tomg721 Too OLD to ride it.
Definitely a good candidate for a tank re-line.
Maybe not, mine was premix, not oil injection. 5oz oil/per gallon in the tank.
There's that phenolic tank liner stuff which works well. You just get all the loose rust out of the inside of the tank by putting some gravel & sand inside it & shaking it. Then rinse it out with gasoline or solvent. Then follow the instructions, & Bob's your uncle!
What a belter, many thanks to the original owner for taking such good care of the old girl🎉🎉
Back in '66 I was a 16 year old kid, crazy about motorcycles, and saving the money to buy my first bike, a Honda S65. I'd be in bed at night, and would hear the cool guys ripping up the road on these Yammies. You could hear the exhaust for what seemed like miles, going through the gears. In 1973 I bought an RD350. Been on Yamahas ever since. Got a 2002 Roadstar pushing 100,000 miles, and a 1985 VMax, that old girl has over 136,000 miles on the clock. Both bought new. I'm 74 years old now and these bikes aren't going anywhere as long as I'm breathing.
This was obviously something special to this lady to that much care of that bike.
Your commitment to getting bikes going is incredible. Taking two wheels out on ice is just insane.
You must live somewhere it doesn't snow. Ice racing on frozen lakes is HUGE in most northern states.
Most bikes sitting for 30+ years don’t have the advantage of sitting in relative comfort of a basement. It does even look like the basement was damp to an extreme extent. Too bad the fuel tank was not drained and cleared. Beautiful ol’ scooter😊
Thanks Joe! You’re a great story-teller, a great mechanic, and the most prolific channel on TH-cam. This is probably my favourite project bike. Keep up the good work. (Vinnie is the best canine mechanic and Jade tries so hard when she test drives. You all are fabulous.)
Another "well and wise" person here ...the thrill in your voice is contagious! Great find.
Two words ; clean & mint. It’s a good looking motorcycle.
What a unique and well kept bike, love those grips I’ve never seen pentagonal grips before. It’s so nice and original you should take lots of detailed pictures, people restoring a bike like this would love to see how they looked new.
You're a braver man than me, taking a classic bike like that out in those road conditions
What a beautiful bike!
Me being 77 years old I prefer being called older, not old or elderly if anyone cares. I still ride
1500 dollars is an absolute bargain for that wonderful machine.
I had the same bike, grandmother gave it to me, she had it from my great uncle, evaporust that tank with some nuts and bolts, roll it around and leaves a few days, they have a red tank liner will be seal the rust, done it in a 69 Ford mower lasted 6 years now
I’m excited for this beautiful project.
That is Really nice... rare great colors
I'd be terrified taking some of those parts off with so much rust and gunk. I can imagine some replacement parts could be a nightmare. Great job.
What a beautiful bike, she definitely loved it, awesome find.👍
Im picking up a '95 Polaris 300 2x4, for $250, today. You've inspired me to rebuild another ATV!
Be cool to hear the lady talk about the bike. What's the story? Maybe you could ride it back & show her, then interview her in a follow up video?
She took such good care of that man! She must have been a very cool lady too! Did you not clean that tank? Or did i miss it?
At the end he said he still has to clean the tank. What a great bike.
@davidmcgahan5328 oh I must have missed it. I have it on in the background when I work. Lol
Really is an awesome bike man.
Now that is a great find. My first bike was a Yamaha YDS 250cc I bought in 65 with a stripped out plug in one head. The local Sacramento HD dealer helicoiled the head and I drive it for approx 1 year. Great machine, light and nimble as well as speedy for the time. Would loved to have a 305 or 350 cc as this one is.
And you got it running, didn’t have a doubt brother. Congratulations!
My grandpa had one with custom checkered paint. I used to sit on it and make noises as a little boy. Our neighbor stole it and ripped it apart. Nice bike joe.
You've had a few rough rebuilds over the summer (esp SXSs) but last several buys have been absolute wins with some interesting bikes. Love that yammie, just beautiful (plus I have a soft spot for 2 strokes). Might be worth collaborating with a youtuber gas tank builder to replicate that rusty can if not too crazy expensive. The rarer and odd machines are most interesting for sure. Keep this style of video going - my most watched channel because the is no BS and crazy 1/2 hour endoresments. Many channels I have given up on totally because of this.
This bike could serve as the perfect prop for a period movie.
this bike is so freaking clean joe ... wow , i'd never seen one of these before. actually might be one of my new favorite looking old school bikes. unreal look
the blue and white look so good in the winter too lol
awesome video joe , like always.
Joe, this bike definitely deserves to be in your collection. You won't find another. Awesome!!!
Happy Days Joe Has Posted 🔥🔥🔥
That's what allows him to buy these relics or beat-up discarded motorbikes.
Incredible. That 305cc motor surely produces at least 20 hp. This machine will be a rocket...! 🔥
29 BHP.
@@tuberNunya 29 BHP and 98 mph? maybe with rocket fuel in the gas tank
Wow! Incredible find! That one is a candidate for a museum!
After all the side by side disaster's earlier in the year you've been on a roll finding some great deals here recently. Great content.
Beautiful old bike, look at that wonderful old drum brake on the front, looks like a twin leading shoe. They weee a quick little bike in there day. Lucky man. That fuel looked like black tea 😂 Easy on that throttle there tiger, it’s been sitting 30 years, let it warm up first 😬
Thanks to that old lady that old gal has another chance to live 👍
What a great find.
Can’t believe the fuel didn’t varnish. My father-in-law gave me his 71 scrambler and the fuel varnished and ran down the tank ruining the paint on one side. Other than that it’s mint. Polished all the rusty chrome to perfect condition.
Worked on many older bikes that have sit for a long time. Best way to free up a clutch is to roll with it pop in gear and hold front brake while giving it gas. Works great to get them clutches unstuck. Love your videos
Once again, how about an episode answering questions the viewers may have? Like, what do you DO with all these rigs you have fixed? Sell 'em or what?
that is absolutely incredible! dude hold onto that bike its a unique gem,
When in HS, the 'crew' I was in had a Suzuki 200(me), a Yamaha 180, a Suzuki 250 Hustler and a Yamaha 305 'Scrambler'...The Yamahas had a distinctive exhaust sound, like this rig..
1966-1968....
Reach out to the lady and ask her if she still has the tool kit and manual!
Good to see you got the old girl running. You should have a video compilation of all the times you came back to the camera said started right up! We definitely need to start opening up them doors if you’re gonna do this long-term and you have been long-term because it will take a toll on your body and your brain so please open some doors and get ventilation so you can stay around a little longer to see that beautiful family of yours.Barrett Jackson sell.
He opens the big double door - guessing the single door stays closed due to weird lighting
Sweet find bud. Mission complete
I'll give you 10 grand for this bike now 👍💯
😱
Wot are u crazy brother, u can buy a zx10r for less than that!😬😬👀👀👀💀🤝🇬🇧🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
That's a keeper Joe
I have never seen one this perfect outside of a museum!
I had a 1969 honda cb160 when I was a kid. It had a steering damper. One day I was going down the mountain going about 60 mph when suddenly the bike went into a speed wobble. Yeah, those steering dampeners suck, almost got me killed that day.
Good morning Joe, if you use pinesoil floor cleaner straight. No water it cleans up old fuel on carburetor and inside gas tanks. Old man showed me. So if you try it you will be surprised. Love the Yamaha YM1 I was born 1966
One word AMAZING
Thanks for another great video Joe you always keep it interesting and entertaining thanks
You should definitely still drain the oil. You might want to measure the amount that you take out as well.
Incredible find and price. Now my OCD will kick in and every single thing my eyeball sees will become minty fresh. What a great heirloom for your kids Joe.
Im not a japanese bike guy, but, jeez o pete, what a find!
Joe, I would make a recording of this video and give it to her. I bet you'd make her day😊
That bike is incredible. Very few people take that good of care of their bikes.
A dab of grease on the points cam under the 'sponge' will extend the life of your points.
My dream bike in 1966 was a version of that bike branded as a “Big Bear Scrambler”; upsweep pipes - a glorious sounding bike - beauty. Still dream about it. Nice find Joe.
Unheard of condition. Wow its spotless
My heart hit the floor when you dropped that beautiful bike In the driveway
It would be cool to see the old lady take it out for a spin.
Find of a lifetime! She’s a real beaut!
The parts back on these old bike are so much cooler looking than any new bikes. Nice bike for sure.
Every aspect of the way you create videos is awesome.. just thought I’d mention that. Happy holidays brother
I'm really impressed
Wow, what a find Joe....
That sound ....like the RD 450 Yammy 1998 sweet find Joe
Love that bike,I worked for a dealer in 66,part time high schooler,I had a new honda scrambler, our demo like that was black and white,it would like eat my honda alive,we were in southern cal, when it was a great place,I would ride that bike on the freeway all the time,it started like that every kick, but it was 75 deg.
Me being 71 years old the best way to say old person is the correct Annunciation is elderly more for respect LOL
This old lady kept that bike clean, man. I'm 69 ,old lady sounds fine to me and I'm sure she wouldn't care either.
Yeah that was pretty crass the way he said that
@@thomasebsen8821 I am 80 and I am sure she would mind. Show some respect. Here is a cold hard fact for you at 69. Only 3% of men make it to 80. So, there is a 97% chance you will be dead by then. Chew on that fact. Just the facts. Do you mind?
Or, stagnant smelly OLD "fart" will suffice.😮😂
@@thomasebsen8821Some old folks are touchy about getting OLD.
Wow! what a bike. Very nice, thanks for showing.
Speechless, it's beautiful.
WOW THAT IS A VERY NICE FIND
That's one well looked after bike after sitting all that time.
How'd you clean the tank out. Seems like that part was skipped.
I'd say that he didn't
@@billycapshew2411his videos are always 1 hour 5 mins he would have done it but edited it out to save time
@@anonomuscovid1106 I been watching him since Charlie was on the channel very few are that long
He said the tank still needs to be cleaned. You gotta stay for the recap in the last minute😊
Thats a proper find in that condition, what a find
19:11 hey Joe, I’m surprised you haven’t bought a camera to look into the cylinders.
Lovely bike, even the airfilters paper used and filter housings are quality made. Kudos to the lady who kept it in such nice shape. Great work and find Joe.
These are the types of video you should be doing more often..... Vintage street bikes.....
Nice. Definitely a keeper
$1500 🤯 I, too, would have jumped on that deal! Great condition, great price, and has a title...👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
museum piece for sure.
I've got to say you do find some gems.
Sounds great can't believe it's that old & still good
Very nice, a step back in time!
I got a feeling this is going to go into the Joe collection. Glad you didn’t fall down on the road or the yard.
As someone else here said the tank has Guinness in it for sure!!
I think this may have been the last year of pre-Autolube twins. What a great find!
Not driven for 30 years, 30+ year-old tyres, -10 F, icy roads. What could possibly go wrong? Balls of steel, Joe. lol
