    I hope when he retires, Steven McRae is seriously considered for a top administrative post at the Royal Ballet. He has the intelligence and the sheer stability for a directorship at the Royal Ballet - and he has such loyalty to the company. He is quite admirable as a human being.

      Well…. Maybe among the greatest. That’s pretty dismissive of the great Russian dancers, who are also among the greatest of all time. But I love the use of his arms and upper body. A lot of male dancers even the best seem to not integrate their arms the way women dancers do. He is really powerful and graceful in a way that seems very aware and controlled with every step. That quality reminds me of Baryshnikov.

    Just wonderful- What a class act. I love that he acknowledges the honor of representing such an esteemed company. It is a tragedy that NYCB principal male dancers (Finlay and Ramasar) don’t have this mentality and sense of responsibility. They are spoilt kids in comparison with complete lack of self awareness.

    • @nicolejarel5953
      @nicolejarel5953 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      physhac it’s actually disgusting what those guys did. I guess Sergei Polunin isn’t the “bad boy of ballet” anymore, although he never really was, that was just what the media labeled him as. It’s makes me angry how much negative press Sergei got for quitting the company, where it seems like those male principles at NYCB didn’t get as much media attention and hate you think they would get.

    I'm guessing, given Steven's character, that the Royal Ballet actually has a proper code of conduct. He's married to another dancer too --- and somehow manages not to want to treat women "like farm animals" --- amazing how that happens when a company is run properly. NYCB --- pay attention. This is how male dancers should conduct themselves. How COMPANIES should conduct themselves.

      Mathilde Wesendonck Look at the New York City Ballet sex scandal. Male dancers were trafficking female dancers nudes and talking about wanting to treat women like farm animals.

       @mathildewesendonck7225 Mathilde the Ignorant: Learn the tawdry history of NYCB to find out. I would add to Wendy's comment - the administrators at NYCB should also learn how to conduct themselves.

    Magnificent interview , thanks a lot. Steven McRae is such a magnificent dancer. a great great dancer, in my opinion, one of the best in the world. it's a joy to see him dancing, really a joy.
    So, thanks a lot of this interview , it's been very interesting to learn more about him, as since today I had only seen him dancing ,and it's great to discover him and the other dancers, in a more personal way , as all your other interviews with Sarah Lamb ( I like her a lot, so thanks for that interview) they are very interesting interviews.
    I hope one day you do an interview with Lauren Cuthbertson , I admire her a lot, since I saw her for the first time in Sleeping Beauty , I follow her career, she is so unique, it would be great and interview of this kind with her, it would be just fantastic :-) thank you very much :-)
