I think I counted that he 'crossed the pond' about 60 times on the old Queen Mary and other Cunard liners of the time including The Caronia,Carinthia,Sylvania and Saxonia. Your film was of particular interest, as I remember him telling me he had been a member of crew who had sailed another ship (not belonging to Cunard) out of the Bayonne Dry Dock.

Really like the overview on the paper chart. I still dig the old paper charts as well as digital chart plotters. The overview helped me picture the job. USNS Cape Kennedy is an important part of the ready reserve fleet! Thanks, for the new angle as well. Great vid
Not sure why I'm so fascinated with Tug ops. There's just something about tugs, not sure if it's the power, the skill it takes to operate one, the water, who knows. Maybe just a combo of all of it, but regardless thanx for giving us a peek into your world and what you do. You do it well!
Might be in inches. 120 inches is 10 feet. Awesome videos. I just found your channel and love em'. Between you, Tim B at sea, and the few videos I've seen of Cape Ann Towing have made me really want to pursue a career as a tugboat captain.
It's amazing how you are able to make such fine movements of such a huge ship. Hard to imagine how such big equipment can be so delicate in it's touch.

Willy, We fished the Raritan bay for years and we kept our boat in a marina in Sea Warren. I’ve watched you guys guide ships and barges in and out do the AK for years. But it’s fun to see it from your perspective..

Was great to see the slight touch of your controls (engines, winches and helm) co-ordinate with the skippers on radio in keeping ultimate control over the entire manouvere here something I have never seen before. Looks like a nice tug boat but I am wondering if you have a helm control in each hand? Thanks for letting us know what goes on the cockpit of a Tug.

That outside berth is the worst. So much of the wall has fallen in or washed out. Next on should be out of Brooklyn SY with ferries, fire boats, and rotary current!
Thanks! I have a camera off my left hand that shows behind me or mostly I just look back right quick. If it’s tight Carlos lets me know what’s going on. I also have the chart plotter right in front of me.
Another good trip Willy, thanks for sharing! Is Global Ocean Terminal the old MOTBY facility by any chance? Tied up there during one of the OP SAIL events aboard a USCG Aux. vessel - think it was back in '92. 😎
I don't see you changing throttle position very much if at all. Do you keep the engines at a steady RPM most of the time and just control speed with the Z drives?

There a lot going on ,and the whole port must be buzzing with activity that doesnt show up until one looks real hard. Just with that ship movement,there must be many personal involved . Good work ,your coms are clear and precise, understanding thee various voices must be hard ?
Thx so much for posting and telling me about it. That's quite a glass-fronted view you have. I have a Q: although the Cape Kennedy was dead ship, it seemed cooling water was coming from her bow thruster portside of the bulb. Was her thruster used during the maneuver?
Don't know if you covered this before, but I was wondering, Is your Tug a Stern Drive, or Front Driver? Following your helm movement's looks like a front driver to me, just wondering! Great Channel, love the longer vids and the cool info you share, what an awesome job you have!

3 tugs, no wind and the ship's bow thruster is operational...nice job, lol those are the ones that sometimes go south..
