I WANTED to give a thumbs up but the number was 420 and that number should stay there despite that you should have 10,000 thumbs up , the 420 just looked so cool there.
this is such a fun sculpt, I love all of the details that seem random to a modern audience but are chock full of symbolism! I think one thing people forget about these weird creatures is that they had to be easily understandable for people who couldn’t read, hence their weird af features 😂
The butt face is also because of Osculum Infame, it was thought that devil worshippers would pay homage to him by kissing his backside when they summoned him. I guess it makes it less graphic if he has a face to kiss on that part instead of… you know.
Even though you've only posted 3 videos, you're already at the top of my "favorite sculptors" list. Your videos are well-constructed, and I love how you explain the historical background and context of the things you create instead of just saying "yeah here's this funky devil guy with boobs" and giving no further elaboration. Keep up the amazing work! An addendum, I also appreciate that you're not dead set on trying to appeal to TH-cam and make your creations SFW in order to get monetized. Not enough artists these days are willing to work so intimately and boldly with the grotesque.

The last year I've been getting into the drawings of medieval monsters and their peculiarities. I've been making my own versions of demons with multiple faces and such. This channel is right up my alley and I can't wait to see what comes next
I wasn’t expecting some of my favorite content creators this year to lean so heavily into biblical themes but between you, hochelaga, and wendigoon I’ve been proven wrong. In all seriousness your work has inspired me so much in my own clay pursuits. The elation I felt when I saw this video uploaded was truly unmatched by any other content creator, and to see you be able to make even more of these ghastly creations would fill 2024 with so much joy.
What a lovely, generous comment! Thank you. 🙏🏻 The videos are a LOT of work, but when I read comments like this it makes it all worthwhile. Big love. 🫀
Dude, I love your sculptures of lesser known designs and creatures from long ago. It’s really refreshing to see these ancient designs given life when they otherwise would’ve remained forgotten.
YESSSS ive been waiting for your next upload! I shared the alchemy dragon with so many buddies I hope this video does even better. Your editing and process footage is top notch. I just want more of these all the time, but I know I've got to wait, these are not simple builds .
Thanks so much! Yeah, they take ages because I'm juggling a day job and a family, but I love making them and have loads more ideas! Thanks again for your kind words, it really means a lot. 🫀
Nothing satysfies me more than watching yours and North of the border videos. I see his influence in your videos and it is just so great to see. Love your unique style, and narration that is both entertaining and educating. Im big fan of H.Bosch and simillair ,and Im so happy you make 2D images come to life. Cant wait to see more :)
Thanks so much! I actually cocked it up first time round and had to drill the eyes out of his head and redo them. Bloody nightmare, but worth it in the end!
Terrific video as always (three counts as always, definitely), I really liked the extra attention given to your tools, and the analysis of the creature features.
Appreciate you not deprecating this weird little dude for having boobs. Also what a great job you did on this! Texture, pose and expression really give it a character.
His first face has a cartoony dog, Disney or furry style which feels absurd as he is the Devil and the rest of his body is very different, but absurd is very on brand and it works with the idea that he tries to look cute/appealing/endearing.
The detail on this horrible guy is great and I love the historical context you give. Small note: the repetitive notes of the string instrument in the background music is pretty grating.
One of the disappointments of modern media is the utter lack of demons or the demonic being depicted in the medieval or renaissance style. Grotesque demons with faces on their crotches, knees, elbows, and asses. Hellmouths that are literal giant beast maws filled with fire. I understand _why_ modern artists don't go for it. They think it looks silly. They want their demons to look scary or cool. There's Standards & Practices limiting what they can show. Or how the weirder versions of demons just demand a lot from artists, detail-wise, that not everyone is willing to commit to. The medieval art captures a different mood than the modern kind. There was an intentionality and a comedy about them. You were meant to feel afraid or disgusted, but also see the devil as almost pathetic. A creature that wears its evil on its lack-of-sleeves. As physically emaciated as it is spiritually impoverished. If you have a chance to draw a demon, consider doing so in the medieval style. If nothing else, you'll be remembered better than a million big, red guys with scary faces, big horns, wings, a pointed tail, and hooves. (I wish someone made these kinds of demons as wargaming miniatures. Maybe a hard plastic set, that let you mix torsos and legs, heads and asses.)
first video of yours I've seen and omfg. my dude. my guy. the respect. the level of detail you go into on everything, is unreal. your sculpting is so ridiculously good, like hats off to you but I also really love how you explained the details and reasoning's for why the devil looked like that, just the knowledge and appreciation for the art and what you were re-creating (in another format), just unmatched.

As a cosplayer, this one would be a crazy cosplay to make… if my skills were a little. better. i’d totally try it!! For now I’ll probably stick to drawing.. thanks for the inspiration!!

@@SomethingWkd Yes, as a history student I know how to recognize all your efforts. Image symbolism, especially in this period of history, was very important and rich.
Amazing! I love the old engraved depictions of the Devil and assorted demons. I wish the fantastic film The VVitch had featured one of the old engraved depictions of Satan instead of evil Jack Sparrow that they went with, but I'm sure their budget was an issue.
Your sculptures combine so many of my special interests, and I love the humor in your narration. It's lovely to see your channel get so much interest so quickly because it really is something special. Happy (belated) Solstice!

Believe me, I wanted to make the fleshy tube! In the end the whole sculpture was just a little bit too small, which meant that the pig's head was too small, which meant his mouth was too small and I couldn't fit the tube in!
