Let's not forget the RHYTHM that is in the music of BABY DODDS. Thank you for posting this valuable lesson in African Music. The sound of this music is a healing sound.
I notice mbaqana jazz idiom has more varied use of chords compared to marabi jazz centred on a repeatetive chord cycle. I love that you give some insight into the stylistic components. Thank you for these videos
if you dont mind me asking , how does one define mbaqanga jazz ? I've seen some liken it more to jazz and others to maskandi. Struggling to define it on its own. is it just a type of jazz born in a different region of South Africa?
@@obietsimane9972 it's in the rhythm and the bass I would say. in this very video when they start talking about the bass and the drums, i think it explains it quite well. it's a very dancey type of jazz! it has that almost dance music-like quality of finding the perfect harmonic loop
4:06 i always enjoy the music more when the musician is clearly enjoying himself. The enthusiasm is contagious! :)
If anyone was wondering what the song title is, it's McCoy Mrubata - Face the music
