That has got to be the coolest thing I have ever seen. I'm a big fan of Future Pinball... this just takes it and blows the doors off of it. - I'm finishing my Arcade Cabinet after 3 years of planing.... now I have to build a cabinet for this. DAMN YOU for feeding my inter geek!
This is INCREDIBLY awesome! I agree that digital pinball will never replace the real thing, but, for one that has serious issues wielding a solder iron, this is a worthy substitute :)
My plan is to get a 24" screen that has full swivel and rotation. That way I can use it for arcade games but also turn and tilt it to use with pinball as well. I'd be putting it in a MAME cabinet though.
If you could somehow integrate haptic/physical feedback that would just be incredible. IMHO, the physical feedback you get when you hit the flippers, or when the ball hits things, especially when it bounces back and forth like crazy between bumpers, is part of what made pinball so great. Maybe you could also incorporate an accelerometer so you can nudge the table (and TILT!) too!
Pinball machines cost $1500-5000 each. While the LCD TV monitor itself may be fairly expensive, the whole thing could probably be built for less than the price of a single popular pinball machine. Even building a good quality MAME arcade machine would costs $1200 or so in just materials. This seems to be a very good proof of concept.
Yeah I use it too, being able to drag maximized windows from one monitor to the other is convenient. Plus, maximizing windows to the desktop is hilarious when you're using 2 widescreen monitors.
I'm sure the widescreen HDTV costs less than any *one* mid to late nineties Williams pinball. And there are games running on Future Pinball that do not exist in real life.
I wouldn't say as much updated as "made accessible" A lot of tables like these are copies of real physical ables. While you don't get the vibrations or the 3d of the table, you can have a fairly realistic pinball experience with a number of tables that you otherwise wouldn't be able to cram into your home.
Very cool tech, and I'd love to have one of these setups at home. That said, when I'm out at a bar or an arcade I'm always going to prefer the real ones.
Nice job! I would like to make one of these. Can you please give us the specs on your setup? As for the LCDs, my guess would be a 52" and a 22". Is there a url that would give instructions on how to set something like this up? Also, I would put a piece of black tape over the Samsung logo on the LCD. For some reason it takes you out of the illusion when viewing this. Very cool though!
@ozgood1x You are dreaming. When you consider the cost of the monitors it'll be more than $1000 depending on the size you go for. Most seem to use a 37" HDTV for the playfield and a 19" for the back glass. Some even use a smaller screen for the DMD/scoreboard so if you think you can make one of these for $550 be my guest.
this is awesome, I wanna build one of these too. To the naysayers that say digital won't replace the real thing, there's only one pinball company left and they aint doing well. Pinball machines take a long time to design, and the maintenance is horrible. I prefer the real physical thing too, but digital is 95% true to the real thing, and if I can download tables for free and play them all in the same space, and not worry about stuck balls, I'm all for it.
Is that Samsung widescreen monitor a Plasma or LCD? I've heard you can't lay Plasma monitors flat. So if someone was going to build a setup like this they would have to use an LCD monitor, right?
I think I might build one of these soon. Digital is the way to go, of course it will not be like the origional, just like a 2010 Camaro will not feel and drive like a 69 Comaro. Its a different time and a different cool new way of doing things. Lets just get used to it and have fun with it. I don't have any negativity against old or new. Both of it's ups and downs.
It's not that people don't want the real pinball machines.. Have you tried to find a pinball machine lately? The good ones are hard to find and even if you do, you will end up paying upwards of $4000.00 for them. Of course this will never replace the real machines, but it's the next best thing and an great homage to classic pinball in general.
BTW, real pinball machines that work don't sell for an average of 3500 or even 1500 USD. They sell for about 700-1200 and the more technical digitals may sell for about 1200-2000 tops with some exceptions. With the economy in the dumps, they are dropping in price daily.
you know, i've been wondering something crucial as the ULTIMATE virtual pinball experience...and that is: Why i don't even HEAR the metal ball rolling around?
A lot of people are going on about "someone with too much time on their hands" or "what a loser" or "retarded" but I can personally say this sort of thing will probably make masses of millions of dollars and influence arcades to use HD displays for various purposes, supposing this guy patents this...
Not true. It will be alive as long as people are into collecting, restoring, and playing them. There are still many people into this stuff. Just because something isn't produced by major companies doesn't mean the hobby is dead. Arcades have been dead for many years, but arcade cabinet restoration companies are thriving right now. Same thing with older game consoles.. they are living on through collectors (me), Virtual Console (Wii), Xboxlive Arcade (360) and PSN (PS3).. They all live on...
That's Fuckin awesome! How you divided the image on both screens is beyond me. I like hyperspin too but run into a few roadblocks at times. Like future pinball, I downloaded it, yet it comes out to something that it wants me to create a new 1. I just want to play the games that are already made. I couldn't upload a game into future pinball, how did you get those games?
Hey man thats AMAZING can you tell me where to find a tutorial for the software setup.. visual pinball pinmame and hyperpin is way to much for me?! or is there a link to a complete package? if you can send me a personal massage. the totaly amazed cucumber
I dunno about that, both wre equal cheaters the real one has magnets that can cheat and well that's electronic cheat, but still an awexsome idea and opens up a whole new world where they can take pinball and what they can do with it :)
Shaky camera which doesn't focus on the action, slow 30 second loading times, and undefined control schemes ... I think I'd rather play this on a computer, and just tilt the 24" screen 90 degrees ...
I reckon "the future of pinball" is gonna be: EXTINCT... thats just my point of view.. i know that a lot of people still enjoy the game.. but i dont know how long its got left, sorry but in this day and age people are moving on to other things.
Haha, wow your so emotionAL about this.. LAWL. This seems really really cool, but yeah HDTVs do have like a 2 frame display lag, most of them. Maybe it doesnt! who knows, I was just making a joke JEEZ
@sadiepepper you need fullscreen 16:9 tables. there are always 4:3 common tables and 16:9 widescreen playfield tables.

I would love to have something like this.. except have the screen mounted inside of an actual pinball table
Very cool tech, and I'd love to have one of these setups at home. That said, when I'm out at a bar or an arcade I'm always going to prefer the real ones.

Now imagine this with an auto-stereoscopic, 3D HDTV, so that the table has the same depth as a real table.
i have a question...what monitor size did you used for the pinball table itself? and for the back panel?
this is awesome, I wanna build one of these too. To the naysayers that say digital won't replace the real thing, there's only one pinball company left and they aint doing well. The quality is amazing!

This is selfmade. It's Just an big hd tv (maybe 40 ") and a standard screen on the end
WHAT THE FUCK???? THATS ONE OF THE MOST AWSOME THINGS I EVER SEEN. now thats next gen pinball there great work. welcome to new school pinball.
Both of it's ups and downs.
wow, looks amazing. very nice.
very nice, how much?
No really, how much does this beastly machine cost?
Most likely no. Pinballs are fairly expensive still. So multiple tables for the cost of the LCDs and PC isn't really that bad.
It's not that people don't want the real pinball machines.. Have you tried to find a pinball machine lately? The good ones are hard to find and even if you do, you will end up paying upwards of $4000.00 for them. How do you set the screen to be flat and just show the playfield?
Visual Pinball + Vpinmame is the way to go. Way more real tables recreations available. Future pinball does have promise though.
lock in the focus so we can see the dam table
you know, i've been wondering something crucial as the ULTIMATE virtual pinball experience...and that is: Why i don't even HEAR the metal ball rolling around?
how do you get it to diplay the full top view table like that?
SHIT thats nice! i like that idea turing the LCD over like that!
But how do he controll the flippers? with the remotcontrol? if thats it then it suck!
you already can do this using a wiimote synced up with your PC. : )
let me know when 3d glasses work with this, i'll give myself a headache you wouldn't believe
Anyone thought of making a mini one? maybe a 24" Play field and a 17 or 15" Back screen? I may just do it. a Table top pinball machine.
Pinball machines tend to go for $1500-5000 for popular, good quality machines; so your statement is quite a bit off.
A lot of people are going on about "someone with too much time on their hands" or "what a loser" or "retarded" but I can personally say this sort of thing will probably make masses of millions of dollars and influence arcades to use HD displays for various purposes, supposing this guy patents this...
great focus!
Yeah but it's compensated when you WATCH IN HQ

We're sorry - this video was too awesome to remain on TH-cam.
how do I switch between boards like that?
Hey man thats AMAZING can you tell me where to find a tutorial for the software setup.. visual pinball pinmame and hyperpin is way to much for me?! or is there a link to a complete package? if you can send me a personal massage.
the totaly amazed cucumber
Even pinball isn't safe from load times any more. :P
Is this screen 16x10?
I dunno about that, both wre equal cheaters the real one has magnets that can cheat and well that's electronic cheat, but still an awexsome idea and opens up a whole new world where they can take pinball and what they can do with it :)
That's awesome!
Hi

German User
Mfg. Olli
How am i gonna put my drink on the class? and how can we tilt it? haha
how is he controling it?

If you put it in a bar or restaurant, kids or drunken adults would probably break it in a few days.
Yeah, That would be nice to have at home. :P
Wow, I want one!!
if you want to play 1.
I just think the real pinball with actuall ball is coolest.. but if pinball was dead and this was all that was left id be cool with it
Looks awesome. But, you're gonna need a way to protect that huge pane of glass from kids and drunks that like to slam down hard on the machine.
i love the name of the machine: big spender pinball lol
No, He uses mind power of course.
Freakin fuckin great awesomeness.
Dreaming...That's how I get my BEST IDEAS.
Meanwhile, for That money, REAL pinball machines are where the Money is Better Spent My Friend.
ca nous fera pas revivre nos bon vieux luna parks
so is the game's name future pinball?
very cool
Starts at 1:40
Shaky camera which doesn't focus on the action, slow 30 second loading times, and undefined control schemes ... I think I'd rather play this on a computer, and just tilt the 24" screen 90 degrees ...
@carsonky marry the right one and its not a problem at all
Predator themes music FTW

Ohhhh.... my wife would kill me. HAHAHAHAHAhahahahaha...... *eying the TV now....
Hey, that's not a bad idea at all!
I guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend. Glad I'm not married.
Real Pinball machines go for an average of $3500. So, I'm guessing this would be about $550......TOPS. I prefer Real Pinball though.....
I want this.
I guess you're rich then, unlike most of us.
definitely needs legit flippers
cool
didn't understand that
crap, that thing cant ever replace the real thing.
hi Digg.
Yeah, because everyone wants to see a 4 minute video of how dynamite works and not even see the building get blown to shit.
reshoot and turn off the auto focus
Should probably spend 10 dollars on a stand and not 5000 dollars on a future pinball machine.
Cool system, but somebody needs a little more time working with cameras.
Digg Effect....
Digital air hockey.
HD TVs lag
looks cool but a real pinball will always be better
@ithrowcatsatdogs I'm imagining your mom shutting up.
no es por nada pero me gusta mas el pinball argentino .
Rofl true dat
Looks great! Fuck the haters.
haha dramn straight.
Take off the god damned auto focus. Is this your first day?
wouldn't it be cheaper to buy an actual pinball machine? lol
dude this is fucked up!!! this is balshemy i think?
LOL no shit, play whatever type of pinball you want
