With the post 2008 global decline of sailboat racing, I’m glad there are people out there still willing to give it a go. Glad these guys have chosen to support the sport. With a little time I’m sure they’ll get there.
I laugh my ass off every time I watch this. The dude in the yellow dress on Road Runner caused all of this, and if this fleet believed in protest flags he could've had at least two thrown at him.
I loved the part with the beer boat! Will definately add that to our regattas! I don't understand why you keep that outboard engine on the stern, it sure takes a lot of beating! I always put my engine inside the boat, or leave it on shore when I go for racing.
Kind of funny with that beer can boat and that slamming into each other... one of the more entertaining sailing videos - you don't want to see tacking and shadowing all night long do you :)
Everyone sails with an outboard in place on lakes and rivers in US. Where you are from they don't have tornadoes and such weather do they, bloody hell. LOL
The 1st one the other boat had the right to push them up towards the wind but not to crash. They should have avoided it and then protested. The first one during the massacre was the other boats fault. They tacked when they had no right to do so, unless they needed space so that they didnt ground the boat. Even if that was the case, they should said that they were going to tack before they did so. At least from my understanding of the rules we use here in Norway.
@@knulerabc The first one was one of those situations where two contradictory rules might have applied. Both boats had basically finished rounding the mark and so you can make the argument that the lee boat had the right to luff up the filming boat. But I've always had a problem with that rule, in that if you're the lee boat and your bow has barely overlapped the transom, you're really forcing the weather boat to turn downwind, otherwise his transom would hit your bow turning UPwind. Doesn't seem fair to me. Now -- the SECOND crash there is no two ways of looking at it. The boat to weather of the filming boat as they approached the mark was obliged to give filming boat room to jibe 'round the mark. The jibe was barely in progress when the weather boat swung around and hit filming boat's stern. That's as wrong as wrong can be. Filming boat was clearly the inside boat and was entitled to mark room AND right-of-way.
They should've dubbed that over at 4:00 LOL. Next best thing was the skipper yelling "Watch out ahead of ya, jughead!" The guy in the yellow dress caused that whole thing. What a fiasco. Whenever I need a laugh I go to this vid. This is destruction derby on water.
That was funny 😄 those guys were just out there to go by the beer boat. The communication was somewhat lacking. If they were at all serious about racing, don’t you think there would have been some yelling, some effort to go the right way around the mark? Lol!!!
who gave them sailing patents !! ?? revoke permissions immediately! re-exams !! then implement the regatta learning system, because in this video NIKT has no idea about the regatta rules, tactics and technique of yacht guidance as well !!
Sorry -- filming boat is at entitled to mark room AND ROW when rounding a mark to leeward; the jibe was about to take place but didn't before sail #590 clipped filming boat's stern. That took place TWICE in the vid. If protest flags were allowed in this race filming skipper certainly could've raised two of them. But it looks to me like the BEER was the only objective worth ramming each other for. The outboard motor should be banned from racing for life.
I guess they're cheap boats comparative. But still between$7 000 and $20, 000. I don't think I would be alright with most of that . That boat can thread a needle and turn on a dime , with a good helmsman, so I ask two question . WYF, AND WHY????
no communication, helm is trying to do way too much , sail trim (main) and steering is terrible as a result and awefull mark rounding . but tbh the rest of the fleet isnt much better , come over here to Europe and we'll show you a thing or two about racing boats
This race has to be an embarrassment to the sport. Two things the skipper and crew need to do is learn how to sail because you don't know basics of sail trim., [their skill is so poor, a boat from astern overtook them in their lee] and take a courses on the Racing Rules of Sailing. Your a disaster that interfering with real sailors racing their boats trying to win. I could see that fleet racing 17,000 pounds, forty foot R boats on Lake Erie and playing bumper cars. A jib by another boat at a start broadside my starboard tacked boat 25 seconds before the gun in 15 knot winds. If she hit us three feet forward, the forestry would let loose and 55 feet of mast with it, three feet aft and we would have sunk. As it was she was hole with such force it lifted the front deck off the hull. Luckily nobody was hurt except his insurance company that paid the $24,300 to have my boat repaired. His boat had minimal damage to her bow. We lost the season due to the repairs and a damn good start.
What's hilarious is that they POSTED THIS!
What's hilarious is you commented 12 years later.
I love that no one says a word! The faces tell it all.
the SILENT pirate boat ! NOBODY says a thing on that boat ???
Note to self; When looking for a J22 look for one up North.
that is a messy regatta!! good to see you guys had fun but damn I would not be taking my boat to something like this
this could be a new promotion to start a brand new sailing demolition derby. Gheez, are these guys weekend warrior's? i'm staying out of that state...
Obviously the port 'n starboard rules don't apply in Tenneversaw'em

right. looks like a lot of fun. I'm Tennessee !?
Lived in nashville for years, now live a bit farther afield.@@celticspike7
It looks like sailboat racing in Tennessee is a contact sport.
I laugh my ass off every time I watch this. The dude in the yellow dress on Road Runner caused all of this, and if this fleet believed in protest flags he could've had at least two thrown at him.
I am sure the local Home Depot is making a mint on epoxy and fiberglass.
I loved the part with the beer boat! Will definately add that to our regattas!
I don't understand why you keep that outboard engine on the stern, it sure takes a lot of beating! I always put my engine inside the boat, or leave it on shore when I go for racing.
Based on what I just watched, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't crash into each other at the parking lot getting out of the marina. Jaysus!!
I have never seen so many collisions in one race. Does anyone follow the rules at all? bumper boats.
These guys just out here on goof patrol.
Its a Beer Race....I suppose that's why most are tipsy :D :D
That’s not a race but more like crush test dummies ....... but not sailing definitely
You're gonna need a bigger lake.
Kind of funny with that beer can boat and that slamming into each other... one of the more entertaining sailing videos - you don't want to see tacking and shadowing all night long do you :)
ha, right. do they even attempt the penalty turns ?
THE GUY SAILING THE S 2 7.9 NEEDS TO GET HIS GLASSES PRESCRIPTION CHECKED
what?? at 1:56, no "abra kadabra", would have been nice to play that song while the video was playing, as background!!!!
Anchoring a Opti and stuffing it full of beer. Bloody brilliant eh!
Will suggest it at my club too!!
Kind of explains the collisions.
Nice job on the beer grab, too bad about the bumper cars, impressed I did not hear any cussin' ~ like around here!
What an absolute fustercluck. Still, it’s nice to see Sailors Without Sight on the water.
Need more info on this regatta. Notice of Race or Sailing Instructions?
Didn't you notice that all their Documents - both the Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions - hang on the backstay 0:14
Doe these people actually know the rules and how to race a sailboat?
Rules ??? There's a beer boat for chrissake ...
@@gordonthomas4292 Kinda says it all doesn't it :-) but still. You should try and keep clear of others to say the very least.
Putting your outboard away is a great idea.
TAlking with the crew so people know what's going on is another
that wild!! thanks for posting
Did the guy on the other boat say; 'I dropped my beer?'
you caused all of them, put that bloody outboard motor away lol

this is why its nearly always better to crew than to club race your own boat !
Looks like fun, I'd sooner sail with you than some of the commenters.
you call that a crash?
Looks like a competitive fleet, nice video, thanks!
The current in that river must be strong!?
insert the benny hill theme :)
Losing the engine might help, too.
(Special) Olympics trials?
i like this club...!
so your all quite new to sailing and racing huh!?
Hello who got the penalty
Everyone!
The main sail trim was awful. The first collision was because you didn’t get up to close hauled. You should be out pointing the fleet. Trim the main!
Super control of the boat
You guys must be really good. Everyone's trying to take you out!! Nice video.
its a drunken beer boat punch up, just imagine what their like in the club house.
Only two words to describe 4:34 - 4:50 = tangle fxxx 😱
Where is this?
Near Chattanooga, Tennessee. Unfortunately.
Don't you know rubbing is racing man.
Mabye u should get a smaller boat like a 470 because u aperntly can sail
hahahahah what. the. fuck. did i just watch. I thought its man in overboard, but that was beer, and then that massacre. hahaha genious!
I'm never sailing with these guys
Awww, come on, we're a lot of fun!
I used to own a J22 named Beep Beep. Mint condition. I hope it’s not that one.
Those must be club boats...
so true
Bump cars! The boats are not supposed to bump together like that!
Crayfish are always good for beer, but in this race it is as if you yourself do not become food for crayfish.
Anyone flying a jolly roger unless your name is Black Beard leave it at home ......
Amateur hour. Everyone should be wearing red noses and big floppy shoes.
The guys in the Road Runner boat pretty much were, for all intents and purposes. And they sailed like clowns.
Great entertainment
What a Mess!!!!!!!!
awesome
Perhaps everyone should go back to school and learn the sailing rules of the club they are sailing with.
Gee no one went over or sunk
Like a shoe store in a cloths dryer.
Damn I'm jealous!
Look on the bright side, if your vessel goes 1/2 the speed of smell you can absorb 13 impacts with no injury. This guy should stay off the water wtf.
Nobody is wearing a lifejacket
That was funny 😄 those guys were just out there to go by the beer boat. The communication was somewhat lacking. If they were at all serious about racing, don’t you think there would have been some yelling, some effort to go the right way around the mark? Lol!!!
Let's go sailing. Fun they said it would be.....
You fly a SKULL & CROSS BONES! WHY?????
Find Luigi!
Lol. Why so tight?!?!?!?! Yikes.
Where's the umpire's boat handing out the penalties? :-)
They had to go back to West Marine and get another box of penalty flags. The first case of 100 got used up.
Boat to port is aptly named for this fiasco....
Wow these guys are some bad sailors...always getting rolled form windward..
Раки к пиву всегда хороши, но в этой гонке как бы самим не пойти на корм ракам.
who gave them sailing patents !! ?? revoke permissions immediately! re-exams !! then implement the regatta learning system, because in this video NIKT has no idea about the regatta rules, tactics and technique of yacht guidance as well !!
The best part of this video are comments *rofl*

There was no one who was able to sail in this race. Learn the rules before you post a video where you complain about others.

Sunfish
Tennessee? Guess that explains the large poor choice one design. None of them can sail. Massacre is a far fetch in a 22 foot day sailer
Don't know much about one design racing do you?
Hilarious
!
Seems like a large number of "sailors" who don't quite know what they are doing...maybe I'm wrong.......nah, I'm right.
No hails of Protest and no flags flown. Guess there's a different rules system down south.Rules? we don't need no stinkin rules.
Boatscooter
You caused most of it.
Where are the protest flags ? You don't protest and that is the kind of racing you will have
Bro it's a beer can race. There ARE no rules.
that is hilarious
What a bunch of maroons.
LOL
Terrible, jajajaj que muertos
Lol 😂
Hahaha
you guys are sooooooo messy!
What a disgusting video of sailing
