    Okay .... Nice & easy to understand.... Good Video! Buuuuut.... if I watched this the 1st time I emptied my tanks (instead of having a RV next 2 me show me) I would have assumed the tanks emptied REAAALL QUICK!!! You see wait 30 seconds..... & wait 30 seconds again... and then shut the tanks right away. Maybe throw a CAPTION on the screen “The tanks could take up to 10 minutes to completely empty, maybe more depending on how full & how empty you want them”

    I would think you'd want to close the valve on the black tank before opening the grey tank valve. At least that what I have heard.

    • @spencerjones4328
      @spencerjones4328  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      There's no reason why you couldn't do that. The reason why you wouldn't that is because the draining slows down when less content is in the tanks. In effort of trying to get as much content out, we leave it open to keep draining.
      Now, as far as contents getting mixing and filling up the other tanks, the way the pipes are plumbed makes it nearly impossible for contents to fill the other tanks. And even if that did happen, we're talking about sewage. There's no such thing as clean sewage. Know what I mean?

    • @tflag8950
      @tflag8950 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Spencer Jones wellllllll. Gray “is” cleaner than “BLACK”! Lol! I empty my grey after because I prefer the fact my shower water “cleans” ?? the black water out of my lines before I spray them and pack them away.

    Can you run water pump to run water from water tank without using or filling hot water tank? Thanks

    • @spencerjones4328
      @spencerjones4328  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Each water heater has a bypass behind it so you can winterize your RV and avoid getting anti-freeze in the tank. By turning on the bypass, all water will pass on by the water heater.

  • @d.n.3652
    @d.n.3652 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So you dump the grey water tank second to help clean out the tube so it doesn’t smell or leak sewage as much when putting the hose back?

    • @spencerjones4328
      @spencerjones4328  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right! Sorta... Black tank has solids and the grey tank doesn't. That's really the "logic". Run some extra water if you're having smelling or leaking problems/concerns. Sometimes we put chemicals in the tank just to dump it again after a drive.

  • @fastkill33
    @fastkill33 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So do you ever have to get the actual black and grey tanks cleaned?

    • @spencerjones4328
      @spencerjones4328  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Occasionally you'll want to just run straight water through the tanks to and get the water running clear. Then put some water in, drive around a little and then dump it again. But as you are using the RV, you'll want to be putting in the tank-treatment chemicals and some water so it continually treats your tank and keeps it clean throughout using the RV.

    my question is does water still run without the generator connection or does it have a battery 🔋 on the side?or you need to have the water camp connected?

    • @spencerjones4328
      @spencerjones4328  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question.
      If it's from fresh water using the pump then you need only battery.
      If the batteries are dead then you'll need generator or plug in to shore power to make the pump work and to recharge your batteries.
      If it's city water, then you don't need anything else. Batteries can be off on of the RV entirely and it will still work since it's being pressurized from the city connection. 👍

    • @spencerjones4328

      To each their own..
      I personally turn it off every night so it doesn't cycle on and startle my wife (😆) and then I leave it off until the first use of the day and leave it on for convenience until that night.
      Hardly uses battery if it's left on and the lines are already pressurized.

      Lol. Well the toilets don't work like traditional ones. When you step on the pedal it just DROPS down. So if you turn off the switch, you can do 2 or 3 "late night trips to pee" with enough pressure in the line.

    So big time newbie question: when you are parked at a location with sewage at your site, (like and RV park) do you leave the tank valves open, or you do just dump them every few days (or when your levels go up)?

    • @spencerjones4328
      @spencerjones4328  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can leave the grey tank open. But you'll want to leave the black tank closed until it has enough content in it before opening the valve. I wait until at least 1/3 full before opening it. This helps keep enough fluids in the black tank when you pull the valve, it pulls out all of the solid contents as well. If you leave it open, you have what we call a "pyramid" of a mess.

    • @prestoncox
      @prestoncox 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spencerjones4328 I get what you're saying. 💩 I've heard that the sensors can be a little deceiving, especially in black tanks because of "stuff" getting stuck on or near the sensors. Is this true?

    • @spencerjones4328
      @spencerjones4328  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@prestoncox Definitely. Happens all of the time. Which is why we always put chemicals and some water in the tanks so as you drive it continues to care for the tanks and try to clean off the sensors as much as possible. But even then, if you drive the RV with water and chemicals in the toilet, sensors could read full at the end of the drive. It should drop down to empty about an hour after you park.

    on average 1 person taking 1 shower a day, how often would you have to re fill the water?

    • @spencerjones4328
      @spencerjones4328  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's hard to answer because there are a lot of other factors. How often are you using the toilet? How often are you using water to wash dishes or prepare meals? How often do you use water to wash other things (like rinsing sand off of your feet from the beach)? It's a matter of everything adding up. Even then, with a family of 4 that's moderately conservative with water use, it'll last a few days. If you use a lot of water for all of those other things, we've had some families call us thinking there was a hole in the water tank! Check your monitors and that'll give you a gauge of how much water you're consuming before you have to refill.
