Mumford and Sons are the best thing that happened to pop/mainstream music in history. It's absolutely brilliant. I think these guys can "save" pop music. Their music talk right to your soul.
This is the original version of the song. They altered a lot of their songs from original live performances to the album that everyone now knows. Speaking for myself and many other true die-hard Mumford fans, there are dozens of other songs that still have never been played in a studio that are just as fantastic as the ones that hit the tops of the charts. I'd recommend looking up Liar, Home, To Darkness (original Broken Crown), England, and Nothing is Written (original and better I Will Wait).
I wish that they had put a live- uncut version on Babel rather than a studio version. This brilliant song deserves more recognition than it is is getting. This is still their best song for me- a real emotive anthem!!!!! Keep it it M&S!!! You guys rock!
It's hard to believe they have only 1 album, it's like they've been going many more yrs than they actually have, they do every success they gain and much much more, I love you Mumford and Sons
I am sure this will be my favourite song on their new album. It's got that loud fast-paced sound of The Cave, with those trumpets like Winter Winds. I love Marcus' passion at 2:46. Greatg song.
My Favorit Track on the album and i remember the first time i heard it whilist watching this proformance live on BBC 3 and my mind just went WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. Espicially at "I Wrestled Long With My Youth" bit.
You heard my voice, I came out of the woods by choice Shelter also gave their shade But in the dark I have no name So leave that click in my head And I will remember the words that you said Left a clouded mind and a heavy heart But I am sure we could see a new start So when your hopes on fire But you know your desire Don't hold a glass over the flame Don't let your heart grow cold I will call you by name I will share your road But hold me fast, hold me fast 'Cause I'm a hopeless wanderer And hold me fast, hold me fast 'Cause I'm a hopeless wanderer I wrestled long with my youth We tried so hard to live in the truth But do not tell me all is fine When I lose my head, I lose my spine So leave that click in my head And I won't remember the words that you said You brought me out from the cold Now, how I long, how I long to grow old So when your hope's on fire But you know your desire Don't hold a glass over the flame Don't let your heart grow cold I will call you by name I will share your road But hold me fast, hold me fast 'Cause I'm a hopeless wanderer And hold me fast, hold me fast 'Cause I'm a hopeless wanderer I will learn, I will learn to love the skies I'm under And I will learn, I will learn to love the skies I'm under The skies I'm under
"Do not tell me all is fine, when I lose my head, I lose my spine". This is just so beautifully put, and one of the reasons I ADORE this song!!!! YOP! :D
Wow I can't believe I thought this band was mainstream! They are so talented and so much better live than in a studio I would love to see them live one day!!! Im sorry I've ever underestimated them! So creative!
How are they not mainstream? They have like four platinum singles, a platinum album, are one of the most well known folk bands ever and pump out the same generic song format (granted in a different sound) as any other mainstream band.
Erich Gray ^It is definitely different, but not that good. A few songs are pretty catchy, but they sound like every other generic rockish indie band on their new album. The first time I heard The Wolf on the radio, it took me 2/3 of the song to realize I wasn't listening to the Kings of Leon.
i love how many emails i've had telling me that people have told me this song is on the new album. every new email reminds me that is is. :-) thank you and thank you Mumford and his Sons for not letting me down. buzzing for the new album :-D
I am a 67 yr old lady and absolutely love these guys, TY!!! Makes me dance, ha, like an old, happy lady, AMEN!!!
2020 anyone?! Pure genius this peformance!!
2023
Agreed, the song goes up a level with the mad solo strumming in this version. The album version milks it and waters its effect down
Mumford and Sons are the best thing that happened to pop/mainstream music in history. It's absolutely brilliant. I think these guys can "save" pop music. Their music talk right to your soul.
They're folk and not pop..
Who cares? :D
Actually I call "popular music" every kind of music wich isn't erudite music. From rock, to folk, rap, soul, blues, etc.
The Honey Badger Pop is not a specific genre it really just means popular, but it is now commonly used for the kind of music that is popular (trash)

Thank you
England is a cover of the national
I love you
Great choices!! 💪
its just a magic how they make every song so emotional!!
2011... Little did we all realize how good we had it, and how quickly it would all evaporate.
Em chord best way to express ur anger
Funniest thing i have heard today XD
except it's g minor
+croyization its a g minor dude then moves down to Eb maj
STOP BEING SO FANTASTIC!
Is there anything better than listening to these guys live in the pouring rain?
Theirs are the songs that will be sung in a hundred years... Finally the saviors my generation's needed to take back music from all the other garbage.
Seeing this makes me believe that the world can be a better place...
I entered 2012 listening to this song. What a perfect way to start the year.
Will there ever been such thought provoking lyrics ever to enter our airwaves ???
I wish that they had put a live- uncut version on Babel rather than a studio version. This brilliant song deserves more recognition than it is is getting. This is still their best song for me- a real emotive anthem!!!!! Keep it it M&S!!! You guys rock!
Honest to god i have waited my whole life for a modern band that i like. Mumford and Sons is that band... :)
tears tears tears. this is amazing.
This is definitely my favorite song from the album. Amazing live performance
Mumford and Sons , please last forever !
2:45 to 2:50 makes me go absolutely wild. honestly, these boys are the best thing i've seen in a long time. truly, they've changed me forever.
I just got the urge to try and learn the banjo. No paticular reason, Hahaha!! Absolutely Brilliant!!
This absolutely kills the album version!!
i was about 3 from the front for this and it was the most uncomfortable and incredible gig i've seen so far.
I can't believe this is live, it's absolutely beautiful!
It is!
took me half a decade to find this song... where on earth was I??
Better yet, why on earth didn't anybody promote this song??
took me a whole decade
i love how winston says "glass" in the begining x)
Listen to his voice is like a drug, never get enough...
Can't wait either, just found out last week they were in LA and bought the tickets the same day.
They are really good! They really deserve fame!
This was way better than what it will ever be, I love this version so much. They should have kept
Am I the only one who likes this version better?

The most underrated song on the new album
It's hard to believe they have only 1 album, it's like they've been going many more yrs than they actually have, they do every success they gain and much much more, I love you Mumford and Sons
maybe the best live act in world at the moment ...
I like this version so much better than the album. This got me through some dark days
what a live performance

Live sounds even better!!
New favorite mumford song. Gorgeous.
So happy this song is on the new album, counting down the days!
I find those who dislike Mumford and Sons to be the most Hopeless wanderers of all.
YESSS! it is on the second album. i am not let down. good job Mumford and his sons....good job.
They never fail to make my day. (: Love these guys.
I am sure this will be my favourite song on their new album. It's got that loud fast-paced sound of The Cave, with those trumpets like Winter Winds. I love Marcus' passion at 2:46. Greatg song.
Best band I've seen live. Period.
that touches me very much.
Perfect live act :)
God Bless Mumford and all his Sons
Doesnt get much better than this
Can't love it more than when I listened this at FIB this saturday
My Favorit Track on the album and i remember the first time i heard it whilist watching this proformance live on BBC 3 and my mind just went WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. Espicially at "I Wrestled Long With My Youth" bit.
Speechless.
i think I would've shat myself if I was there!! Great song, especially live!!
Fuck this next album is going to be epic!!
Still got goosebumps....
This song gives me chills.
You heard my voice, I came out of the woods by choice
Shelter also gave their shade
But in the dark I have no name
So leave that click in my head
And I will remember the words that you said
Left a clouded mind and a heavy heart
But I am sure we could see a new start
So when your hopes on fire
But you know your desire
Don't hold a glass over the flame
Don't let your heart grow cold
I will call you by name
I will share your road
But hold me fast, hold me fast
'Cause I'm a hopeless wanderer
And hold me fast, hold me fast
'Cause I'm a hopeless wanderer
I wrestled long with my youth
We tried so hard to live in the truth
But do not tell me all is fine
When I lose my head, I lose my spine
So leave that click in my head
And I won't remember the words that you said
You brought me out from the cold
Now, how I long, how I long to grow old
So when your hope's on fire
But you know your desire
Don't hold a glass over the flame
Don't let your heart grow cold
I will call you by name
I will share your road
But hold me fast, hold me fast
'Cause I'm a hopeless wanderer
And hold me fast, hold me fast
'Cause I'm a hopeless wanderer
I will learn, I will learn to love the skies I'm under
And I will learn, I will learn to love the skies I'm under
The skies I'm under
You know this was over a year before the album Babel was actually released
One of the best bands live.
If i was in that crowd i would be going mental when the song starts to speed up, gotta go and see them again!
Seriously looking forward to their new album now!!!

This song is so fucking epic, god bless mumford and sons
bring on the 24th September and their next album!! Hope you're all as excited as me!!!!
"Do not tell me all is fine, when I lose my head, I lose my spine". This is just so beautifully put, and one of the reasons I ADORE this song!!!! YOP! :D
oh my heart hurts with the love
Wow I can't believe I thought this band was mainstream! They are so talented and so much better live than in a studio I would love to see them live one day!!! Im sorry I've ever underestimated them! So creative!

The Cheshire Cat Listen to the new album that was released just this Tuesday. It's an evolving format and just as good of a sound.
Erich Gray ^It is definitely different, but not that good. A few songs are pretty catchy, but they sound like every other generic rockish indie band on their new album. The first time I heard The Wolf on the radio, it took me 2/3 of the song to realize I wasn't listening to the Kings of Leon.
i PRAY this is the version of this song on the new album!!
can't wait for the new album
This, is living
This is beautiful, love them.
i LOOOOVE 2:52, I wish i had kids who i could take to a M&S gig!! i love it!

@Greenpride94 My "first song of 2012" was The Cave ;) Mumford and Sons really is the soundtrack to a fresh start!
okay. I need the second album now.
You listed every band and artist that I love.
