Sure thing. Keep em coming. Time is gonna get tough to come by as guiding is about to pick up again. Might have to post some gear videos chasing musky with clients
All I have to say is keep the videos coming Alex! I've been watching everything you have been putting out of late and it's quality content! I've gotta get back out with you for a streamer day, so much more to learn from you. But the camera angles you've been using when floating are awesome! I don't see many other TH-camr fly guys using that angle. On one of your previous streamer vids when the guy casting hooked over top of the log I was able to slow down the video and see exactly what he was doing to to pull that streamer off the back of the log, just bad ass man. Please please please keep it up.
and timing on this vid was awesome because I'll be on the Boardman next week wading. Also will be fishing bass on Spider Lake. Hope all is well. Tim Joseph
That's the next video coming out next Sunday. Probably not as long of leaders as u but I did fish back upstream with a floater and moved more fish than going down
I’ve been enjoying your videos and binge watching em over the last few weeks going back to your beginning sure have learned a lot upping my streamer game, thanks it’s paid off so much the last few times out.
When I fish streamers, I find the same technique as this to be highly productive. Wade and work the banks and pools. Especially here in central texas right now with as hot as it's been. Good stuff man.
Alex! Thanks for the tutorial. I don’t have a boat yet since I have moved to MI. I found myself the last two weeks wading downstream on the Chippawau much similar to what you showed us. Thanks for the tips I skipped over a lot of shallow water I will now fish out and leave no areas w/o at least a cast. Great video
It's impossible to film with my current technology. That's why I bring up the spots in daylight so people can see the type of spots they are looking for at night. I might have to do it in daylight so you can see the angles of casting, spots and different presentations
@sc100ott ha! I actually fished it back upstream and moved more and hooked one. I'll have a video for that out next week. Once I switched to olive they bit better. I think the narrowness makes it tough going down. Floating it I'm always successful. I've got a video from floating it on a morning too thatll be out in a couple weeks
Great video. After watching and fishing a bit this morning myself, i need to work on my casting a bit more. I noticed you didnt have to false cast that much. Is that sink tip easier to "get out there" without having to false cast?
In the Midwest it’s almost impossible to wade downstream without creating huge clouds of sediment that flows out ahead fouling the water. I believe this turns off any bass or trout in advance. Fishing upstream is the only alternative.
Wondering what set up you're using. Rod and weight? I never feel like i have good control of my weighted streamer when casting a 5wt. Do i need the better punch of a 7wt. I have a 10' 7wt rod but feel like its too long for some of those smaller streams. Thanks for the videos. Keep em coming.
Todd, I typically run a 9' 6wt with a rio gold. I do like 9 foot rods more for accurate casting. Typically the key is to cast slower allowing for the line to extend all the way in the back cast, especially with a light rod and heavy fly. Also watch out for turning of the wrist in the cast as the fly line will follow that turn of the wrist
Not sure why but fishing streamers downstream always freaks me out. Even when I’m fishing from a boat I feel like I cast towards the bank and less down. I guess I grew up hearing “no respectable baitfish will swim upstream” is that wrong? I feel like in your streamer videos from a boat you will cast downstream as well. Maybe that will help me catch more. Thanks for the video and info I have been loving it!
I only do it on smaller rivers. I prefer an across current when the fly starts on the slow side of a seam. This gets the head of the fly downstream. Ive foung in small river you have to have as much distance between the angler and fly as possible
@@alexlafkasfishingyes, the way you attacked your downstream casts was what I do all the time, but I was getting a conscience about it because I give Kelly a ton of respect for my addiction. He always preaches to never swing. But wading has to be different. You confirmed! You gotta do what ya gotta do, with what you have. I come from 40 years of stick bait gear fishing. Only been streamer /fly fishing a little over a year. I'm not looking back. Just get frustrated. Your approach to tying is badass too. 🤘🏼🤪🤘🏼
Thank you for listening to your audience we appreciate you!

Nice vid. I think some big streamer Musky chasing should be next
@@ryanol1978 that's gonna be a minute. Got some more trout stuff coming.
Absolutely exquisite water. Trippy to be fishing in the footsteps of Hemingway.
Those of us who live here are very fortunate

Thanks Tim. You should have a decent week. I'm hoping this was our last major warm spell
This looks exactly like my home waters, and I do the same as you wading that creek
I love fishing little creeks like that, they are such neat, small environments
this is what I've done my entire life on the east coast lol. Love it- guys don't be afraid to embrace floating lines and longer tapered leaders!

Thanks. I find a lot of fish adjacent to deep water regardless of depth so I just fish it all
Thanks for sharing! Keep up the great work!
Thx man! I'm trying to stay on it
You brought up night stuff twice in this video…..I’d LOVE to see some videos on fishing a river at night be it surface/subsurface

Also- your cross body flip roll cast is great.
It's an important cast too. U can hit all sorts off stuff from different angles without getting tied up
Super helpful thank you
Good!
Nice video Alex, it would be cool to se in detail some of the streamers you used in this video or in general in this kind of approach
I'll get a video together in the next week. It's just a mini peanut envy I tie
@@alexlafkasfishing Perfect 👌🏻 thanks for the reply
Thank you for this !
@johnjackson7951 sure thing
I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who can’t catch a fish in the Boardman!😂
I know there’s fish in there, they just never seem to be hungry.

Yes it is. The weighted head will shoot really easy
In the Midwest it’s almost impossible to wade downstream without creating huge clouds of sediment that flows out ahead fouling the water. I believe this turns off any bass or trout in advance. Fishing upstream is the only alternative.
Id agree on rivers the size of the boardman but I have caught a lot of fish on river 2 to 3 times as wide as the boardman going down stream

Look at all the engagement!
Anyways, does the sink tip spook fish in those conditions?
Probably. I'd have been better off with a lighter, shorter tip or a floater

Sure thing. Hopefully I'll get a few chances to get out when fishing isn't terrible. Did any of it help?
