My Aunt unfortunatly lost her battle to cancer earlier this year which caused me to spiral for a bit, hearing the conversation around the topic was hard, but now listening to stories of people beating the beast is helping me regain hope in the world. Congrats Keith!!

My wife is a nurse, and I can confirm that she is unphased by having to clean your poo. In fact, treating you with dignity and respect in a situation that could embarrass you or make you feel inadequate is something she and most other nurses are happy to do.

    • @reckless_herb
      @reckless_herb ปีที่แล้ว +51

I recently spent some time in the hospital and the nurses were wonderful. they were way understaffed so my care wasn’t all that good, but that’s on admin and not them. when i was interacting with nurses though, they were lovely and made sure that I was treated well. I give love and thanks to your wife for everything she does!!!!

Your wife is a real one. If that is her legit' stance on patient care, she's in the right profession, and the world is better for her doing what she does.

Maybe they think that. It really is a matter of luck and where you go. But not all nurses are into dignity and respect I can promise you that much.

The Tums being a part of Keith’s story is chilling to me. My dad died of a massive heart attack, and when we found him he had a bottle of Tums next to him because he thought it was heartburn. Tums is a literal omen to me. All I can say is, Keith, I’m so happy that you’re cancer-free.

I had cancer from 2019-2020 and I really hope he's allowed to take life as easy as he can because even the first year after I was in remission stuff was just hard do in general. Having cancer can be just as much of a mental and emotional battle as it is physical. And it takes time to really feel "normal" again and can feel ridiculously frustrating, so I wish Keith the best in life 4ever.

One of which is my wife who is a two time breast cancer survivor. If you don’t want cancer don’t live anywhere around DC over a long period of time because I know a lot of people whose gotten cancer around me and that’s where I’ve lived my entire life, with in 60 miles of DC.

My uncle had pancreatic cancer and he needed a Whipple procedure to remove it. It's such an extreme surgery but thankfully it's life saving!! I'm so grateful Keith has gotten the cancer removed and is looking so well after all that. He'll gain that healthy weight back in time as his body gets used to more foods.
Also good for keith for talking about his resistance to going to the doctor. It's so important to normalize getting our bodies taken care of when we are hurting.

I lost my mother to cancer six years ago and my jaw literally hit the floor when Keith mentioned Amelie. My mother often shows me signs that she is still with me and I think Amelie was her way of saying hello. Before she passed she made me watch that movie as it is one of her favorites of all time. I had no idea Keith was going through something like this and I admire how well he put up a front for the camera but i'm more just so thankful he is OK. Cancer gets the best of many people and im so thankful that AMELIE'S ASS IS DONE. YOu bested cancer Keith and that's something not a lot of people can do. Live your life to the fullest and surround yourself with the people who love you the most. You are absolutley right that god has found it's way to your podcast, and so has my mother. 🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:

09:49 📷 Tumor named "Amelie," 90% turned into tissue, 10% still alive.
15:01 💼 Tumor growth affected Keith's ability to move and work comfortably.
18:57 🎥 Keith rarely watches movies; prefers comfort movies, like "White Chicks."
22:03 😅 Keith shares his experiences with surgery and the challenges of recovery, including how invasive and painful the process can be.

33:30 🤭 The hosts and Keith engage in a lighthearted conversation about embarrassing bathroom mishaps, leading to funny anecdotes from their own experiences.
35:05 🤢 Keith describes a situation where he had severe food poisoning during a filming day and the challenges of trying to hold it together while on set.
42:23 🤷‍♂️ The hosts and Keith discuss a humorous goal for the future: the inevitability of Keith sharing a similar story to Amanda's about a hospital incident involving himself.
43:40 🏥 Hospital experience felt like confinement, similar to being in an insane asylum or jail.
46:08 😅 Humor played a significant role pre and post-surgery, helping Keith cope and create a positive atmosphere.
49:39 📺 Trashy TV shows like Judge Judy and forensic crime shows provided comfort and connection while in the hospital.
52:22 💔 Keith's scare of a potential second tumor brought emotional turmoil, highlighting the ongoing challenges of cancer diagnosis and treatment.
01:04:19 💪 Keith's journey is ongoing; he continues to take medication and remains resilient in the face of the experience.

Keith, as surgery goes that’s pretty huge. Sounds similar to a whipple’s procedure.
Very impressed with how well you’re handling the recovery process. Obviously we don’t see behind the curtain but the fact you’ve managed to work consistently and appear so strong throughout your journey is incredible to me.
When I had a serious illness, I was very withdrawn and looked grey… admittedly I was 10 at the time.
Also sounds like it was palpable on examination… I’m an A&E doctor now and I don’t think I’ve come across someone with a survivable tumour that I could feel/see just by examining them. It’s great to see someone recovering from one.

Keith July 13th is my birthday , I’m so glad you’re still here, cancer is so hard I have lost 4 uncles and 1 aunt and a cousin to lung cancer and I have just been through stage three lung cancer and I’m fixing to turn 60 and I never stopped I was always working or playing with my boyfriends grandson that calls me mamaw and I love him so very much, but now I’m on oxygen 24/7 and I have neuropathy in my feet and just a hoard of other problems because of all the chemotherapy and radiation I took. I gained so much weight, there’s like two of me now from having to take steroids for almost 3 years sometimes as much as 60 mg a day . They diagnosed me in the last of 2018 and I still don’t feel worth a darn or have any energy and I can’t work anymore and I can’t stand not being able to work anymore I loved being around people and with friends, but no one wanted anything to do with me after I got cancer and couldn’t do all their work anymore or give them money to help them out or just a bunch of stuff like that, so it’s was hard dealing with cancer by myself and realizing everyone I thought was my friend was using me and I had no friends.. God bless your mom and family and your work family.I loved watching you, your so funny and I love all the cast members you’re all amazing. Last year my dad was diagnosed with stage 3 pancreatic cancer. I didn’t know how to handle it well but coming back to Keith’s journey always made things a little easier. I’m very happy to say that my dad is officially cancer free and I hope it stays that way for him and Keith and anyone else going through something similar. Thank you for sharing your story

I started watching Smosh again a few years ago during the pandemic and I really relate to Keith. I had a brain tumor my whole life and didnt know until I was 25. Having something like this happen is such a big part of your life, but you cant let it stop you from living it. Good luck Keith 💪

Also just want to say thank you Keith for being so open now about talking about this. I know you had been reluctant to say much of anything, but a lot of people care about you and what you have gone through. Telling your story may help others to get checked out more quickly.

I found out today that one of my family friends, the mother of one of my childhood friends (and ones whose dad has known mine for years) has breast cancer. We hadn’t seen them in a while and yesterday they stopped by to say hi because it was her birthday. She mentioned the tests but got her results today. Our families have been close since I was a baby and we always see them at huge gatherings, on holidays or birthdays, and for the occasional dinner at one another’s houses. We haven’t hung out as much since COVID but they still mean a lot to us. Heck, her daughter continues to be a close friend of mine even if we don’t talk very often. I’m praying for their family and just hope they’re able to get through this; and I know they will, no matter the outcome, because they’re strong and have all the support they need. Hearing the news today made me think of Keith and this video. So… thank you, I suppose, for raising awareness. I’m so proud of you Keith, and everyone at Smosh who helped him through his difficult journey. I’m glad you’re here, you always help me laugh during your TNTL bits

as a rare cancer survivor, i feel keith. it took 18 months of chronic appendicitis pain to get diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor in my appendix. it was SO awful but i felt so much better once it was out. i didn't call myself a 'survivor' until 5 years NED but we are nearing 7 years now!
Hopefully good health now for you Keith!

I’m so happy for Keith to beat cancer’s butt! I heard him say he’s missing half his stomach, and Amanda asked if this changes what he eats forever now.
So I had a bariatric surgery a few years ago, which essentially means I also only had half a stomach. Lighter foods for now makes sense, especially with a reduction to the colon. The stomach absolutely can expand after surgery, so I believe some day he will be able to eat regularly again, just with some changes on account of his other reduced organs. For now, soft foods are your friend! Eggs are a great source of protein, plus they’re super soft so you’ll be ok with that for now.
Be careful drinking anything carbonated! I still have to go very slow with carbonation since I can’t regularly burp ever since surgery. However, carbonation does help the stomach expand (if you want that).

I didn’t have cancer, but I have had abdominal surgery twice, both times for ovarian cysts. The first time was emergency surgery, and so brutal because it was two cysts-one on each ovary-about 3 inches in diameter a piece, and I has NEVER known that was a thing that could happen. I went to work totally fine, then by 7 pm, I was on my way to the ER. I empathize when Keith was talking about what he can’t do, even stuff he does normally like to do. Three days after I got home, I needed to shower but I couldn’t shower myself, so I had my (ex)husband and my mom shower me while I SOBBED. Its just… that loss of doing normal, simple, everyday things is so awful.

I'm so glad to hear Keith has won his hard-fought battle against cancer. I was fairly young when I lost my maternal grandmother to breast cancer. Seeing as how risks for certain cancers can be hereditary, and how men can also get breast cancer, I worry every day not just for myself but for my mother and two siblings. But I'm so glad Keith is doing well after beating cancer. Congratulations, man.

If this vid/cast gets demonetised for a pic of a genuine (very clean, very well presented and photographed) surgical specimen, shared with Keith's explicit permission, I'mma rage. I've been a pathology technician for almost 8 years, and what I've learned is that there isn't enough general awareness about these things. People don't want to see it or hear about it or acknowledge the reality unless it's directly affecting them. Kudos to Smosh, and Arohanui (huge love) to Keith for speaking out about and sharing this. Kia kaha, whaanau (stand strong, family).

Two weeks post surgery and back at work. That is INSANE. When I had my c section I remember the pain being still pretty intense at two weeks with just like standing up and moving around, and my cut was a lot smaller than the way they describe his and I still had all my organs. Big props to Keith! I hope he went home after this and let his momma take care of him.

This is such a great episode!
My father died from cancer yearlier this year, and also I lost a cousin due to cancer. So for me it's very much associated with death, suffering, grief and all of that.
But it's so nice to see people who were able to survive that despite all the difficulties! Of course, I keep thinking "I wish it was my dad looking back at all of the shit and laughing because it's over.". But it's still nice to see that at least someone is able to do that. It gives hope.

for Keith.. i hope you see this.
i've had cancer and i have crohns disease. if tuna and crackers is working for you, salmon probably will too. once part of your colon is gone, eating meats just makes you feel like ass. i thought it was just me but it's not. so many people have the same issue. preheat your oven to 375. coat both sides of a piece of salmon with ev olive oil. season with sea salt and pepper. maybe some italian seasoning if you feel like it. bake for 12 minutes and then flip the broiler on for 5 minutes. i always bake a potato first (only eat the inside, never the peel!). the fish and baked potato give you plenty of calories, good fats, and i swear it's just a very tolerable thing to eat for us sad sacks lol. i wish you good vibes and good health. much love from East Tennessee.
