Got an 8110 circa '77 from the ship's store(USN)for about $75. Wore the s*** out of it. Still have it and it still runs! Nutty how much they're worth now. I have an Addiesdive knock off that is actually quite nice and authentic looking. Has the same heft.
Well done review! I found a 6105-8119 from Sept. 1976, who had been unloved. A stay with (1 of) my Horologist(s) remedied her every ailment. She too has an Uncle Seiko (period correct flat tire) strap, and a Klein Vintage Watch crystal. She's glorious again now!
@@craftandtailored btw, you wrote in the article that the watch in the Apocalypse Now was a 8110. How could you tell this for sure? Why not a 8119? Considering the fact that 8119s were for US market, I think there were bigger chances for a Hollywood movie to feature the 8119 rather than the 8110. Any opinion?
Very nice Cam, I see yours has the horse shoe case back, I have one with the later case back from 1975, it’s all original and in perfect working order unfortunately mine has the black lume rot that you speak of, having said that I must say the second I pick it up it starts running and the precise feel I get through the crown when setting date and time is as good as any vintage Rolex or omega from the same period and although it has a ton of miles on it (I can tell by the excessive wear on the lower mainspring arbor) it keeps great time and it hasn’t been serviced since the 80’s. Respect for vintage Seikos ✊🏼 Cheers mate.
I love Seiko’s! I’ve been wearing Seiko Tunas for over 10 years! I want this vintage watch! Beautiful, nice vid, funny thing I are lunch with Martin on a movie set 20 years ago 👍🏻👊🏻
@@craftandtailored Thanks Cam, I’m really enjoying it at the moment. I’ve always been fascinated with the history of the Willard, and having the look of the 6105 with the modern upgrades is pretty special. It’s been a while since I’ve owned a Seiko, and I almost forgot just how killer their lume is!
I think the price of a 6105 in the early 70's was around $100. I was around then and I'm here to tell you that $100 in the early 70's was not cheap! The price was a hefty chunk of a guy's monthly pay back then. Officers are probably the only servicemen that could really afford one.
My dad had one. He kept it for 40 years. I found it one day and said I loved it and one day I'd like it. He forgot and GAVE it away! I was shitty at him for weeks.
I’ve owned a 6105-8119 since I bought it at the base exchange in 1976. My go to watch for 15 years and then put up when I bought another more dressy Seiko. I recently found out that my vintage Willard is collectible so I went hunting for it in my dresser. I found it and lo and behold it was a 6105 just like I saw on the repair TH-cam video. It still ran so I sent it out to be restored. Can’t wait to get her back.
At the time this watch was originally in production and the imperial (feet and inches) system was in use, a 19 mm strap would have been a 3/4 inch strap. I'm not sure when SI units became de rigeur, maybe the late 70's.
PSA - I would advise potential customers to steer clear of this retailer. Please note they have incorrectly listed two out of three 6105's on their website that have already sold. One clearly has a complete aftermarket handset (read - FAKE, not OEM, not factory, not even Seiko). Yet the listing reads: "The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly and exhibit no lume loss or degradation under U.V. light inspection. The "stoplight" sweep seconds hand could be a later service replacement but we chose to leave it with this example as we felt it accented the dial and the hands nicely!" Another listing clearly has a fake bezel insert, yet the listing reads "The bezel retains its factory deep black finish and retails its luminous filled pearl." These guys are a joke Edit: on further review, one of their 6105's not only had fake hands, but a FAKE dial as well. Description on their website describes it as in "beautiful vintage condition with light signs of aging."
What?! As far as I know, we say Omeyga down here in goanna land. Not Omeega like Mr Bond once pronounced. Super cool watch man, love to get one, and I really want a Godzilla too!!
Nice video. I've been wearing my 6105 all week. 👍🏻. Pics on tunokies Instagram. The watch is also known as the Naomi Uemura in Japan after the famous explorer.
Your presentation is like the third or fourth I see about the captain Willard in which a comment is made how soldiers would buy these at the station PX but never really talk about why go into the real reason which was because the Hamilton, Benrus, or Bulova issued watches sucked in the jungle environment with their limited 50 meters water resistance spec.
Hi - your across the pond friends are correct, it is oh-mee-ga. Also never ask an Australian his opinion on pronunciation, spelling, grammar etc... or cricket. Cup of tea anyone? 😊
Nice watch, but for Seiko watch is overpriced ☹️,i know,is part of History, but only this watch was in one Film and now this watch kost over 2k€...LoL nice Marketing💪 Nice video!Like👍
The 6105's never last long when we receive them... BUT!!! I Have another one that is incoming from the watch spa (aka our watch maker) 😎 If you shoot an email to info@craftandtailored.com can give ya first dibs 😀
I bought mine at at a Thrift store for $3.00 …had no idea it was so collectible. Love the history of the watch . Will treasure it .
My most treasured Seiko. Another superb video guys👌

Love vintage seiko divers! They are well built and true tool watches. I love collecting them! Just got my grail 6159-7001 hi beat diver. Cool watch
Another awesome video. Thank you for showing Seiko some love!
This is a really great video and overview of this watch.

Hey Cam- glad you reviewed the 6105! I love this watch; I just picked up a SRP779 this spring.
Glad you liked it! love the SRP779 such an awesome modern throwback!

I just picked up a JDM Seiko SBDC109 “Willard” from Gnomon, and although it’s not the original vintage watch, it’s still beautiful!
Thats awesome the JDM Seiko SBDC109 is super cool! Nice pick up!

I'm pretty sure Omega and Rolex don't use acrylic.
TheUkester yep in the rolex and omega used acrylic crystals into the late 1980’s in some cases into the 1990’s
@@craftandtailored Ah, okay. Thought you meant now. For the money Rolex and Omega want for their watches, they'd better have sapphire.
I find the uncle seiko waffle strap to be thinner compare to other waffle straps
They are no longer affordable when you price it at $3k on your website.
They are ranges of seiko watches..Divers are getting more expensive obviously. For affordable Seiko watches, go for those earlier Seiko 5!

That’s why I ended up buying a Heimdallr Willard homage.
Aaaaand it's gone.
