Thanks! In my first two games I got destroyed immediately and the game felt unwinnable. Then I started to get a bit better. My only other win was by the skin of my teeth. It is a brutal game but I like the difficulty. I am so excited to try the other scenarios and societies and techs. There is so much replayability in the box. Thank you very much for your gameplay video. Thanks to it I now know, that my language version has a significant error on the card with Winterhome. In the Czech version it says "if card S03 was revealed, reveal the the card for preparing for the storm". I learned this the hard way, when I yesterday finally managed to achieve round 11 and found out I do not have any preparation cards revealed yet. And I agree with you, the Society 1 is much harder, especially with the two storms instead of one.

26:40 1 small thing, when you upgrade the generator using a steam core you remove all stress cubes from the stress track. (pg. 41 of rulebook) Since you already performed the remove up to 5 Stress cubes action you technically weren't allowed use the building again the same turn to use the spend 1 Steam Core action. (but either way the outcome would have been the exact same except for that 1 stress cube). Just pointing it out if you ever play the game again in the future.

I don't understand why you use an automaton for improved kiln when it's a red heated building anyway. Is there a reason for it? It even has a field kitchen!

Hi, great video! I think you made mistake. In last turn (Survie the Storm) you have to play generator phase as normal, so you have to move the heat level on zero after throwing coal into generator. And you need spend coal for heat level as normal, but you did not make this move. You dont have enough coal to heat houses, so every citizen is freezing :D please text me, If i was wrong. thanks lot!

Thanks Emma! Yeah, it is one of my favorite genres as well. Of course, Robinson Crusoe is the best survival game. As far as recs for post-apocalyptic, one of the best is Anachrony. Great theme and interesting worker placement gameplay that works solo or multiplayer. Radlands is a fantastic two player dueling card game with great art. And 51st State is a wonderful card game that I really need to play more solo. I've also heard good things about Outlive. And I want to explore the Fallout board game with the expansions, since I enjoy the video games so much. So not a ton of recommendations, unfortunately, but there is quite a bit out there I haven't tried.

It is a long game. A winning run is 3+ hours, once you know it. Losing will be faster. There is no way to save a game midway. For me, this is pretty much exclusively a solo game and definitely worth it. If my playthrough looks fun, then it gets my highest recommendation, if you don't mind long, heavy games. Thanks so much! I am happy to help in any way I can. I use a fairly inexpensive USB mic -- the RODE NT-USB Mini. It is plugged into my laptop and then I use the free program RODE Connect to set levels, effects, and record. It is all put into free DiVinci Resolve for editing. I plan to upgrade my equipment at some point, but right now I'm happy with this streamlined workflow. I hope that helps!

@@LeTrèsVilain Sure thing. I have a fairly bare bones setup, except for one critical piece of equipment: a full frame, 4K DSLR camera. I use an older Canon R6 with a kit lens, but any full frame camera will work. It is elevated above the table on a C-Stand. My lighting is a hodgepodge of cheaper LEDs carefully positioned to avoid glare (very difficult). I film in 4K, 24 frames and work in free DaVinci Resolve. That's about it. It is a pretty simple workflow. Hope that helps. If you have any other questions, just let me know.
Ah, I think I understand the confusion. The spot on the card that says gain a sick engineer in the upper right corner, that only applies when discarding the card at the beginning of the game, not when using the card to take the action. Thanks for watching!
Great playthrough! Do you still play this game after 1 year? I'm asking as it has just been released in my country, so wondering if it really provides long replayability factor (my favorite games are spirit island and mage knight). Thanks!
That's a great question, but I don't think I'm the best measure for this sort of thing, since I have always been someone who plays a game a handful of times and then puts it away for a while and comes back, plays a handful of times and puts it away. And now that I make videos, this is even more true. I have returned to Frostpunk after my video, but it has been over six months. I found it extremely easy to jump back in and play again -- long setup but nothing crazy. I think this game is extremely replay-able, BUT I don't know how binge-able it is. It is a solo event game for me (the same way something like Twilight Imperium 4 would be a multiplayer event game). I'm not going to obsessively pull it out every month but it will get played every year several times in a row and then put back. It is not like Spirit Island, which I know a lot of people binge and binge. Robinson Crusoe is binge-able for me. But games like Frostpunk and This War of Mine are more special event style games. Does that make sense? Either way, it is never leaving my collection and I will immediately snag any expansion content. It is a favorite of mine, but it might not be exactly what you are looking for. Robinson Crusoe would be my recommendation if you watch my playthrough and it looks fun. If you think the push your luck, dice rolling, random event draws would annoy you more than thrill you, then maybe Frostpunk. But Robinson Crusoe has been my favorite solo game and favorite co-op game for a decade. Thanks for watching!
At 42:24 you drop 4 cubes in the generator yet the heat marker indicates 7. I’m confused! Did you miss that one or I’ve been playing wrongly all this time and hence running out of coal all the time?
I'm afraid you have been making it harder on yourself, which you really don't want to do in this game. It is hard enough. You drop coal in the generator equal to the number on the left (in this case 4) and not the number on the far right (which is how many steps up the track you've gone). Hope that helps. @@TotallyTabled 🫠 damn! So the right indicator count that even has a little coal icon next to the number is not the one to follow? BTW I mentioned running out of coal but it’s actually the amount you drop in it, this coal comes from the bank not supply. The problem is that by round 7-8 you are literally dropping so many cubes it’s imposible not to blow up the generator in one turn. That was my real problem. Thanks so much for your answer!!!!
Sorry. That timestamp is at the beginning of the action phase. I gained sick people for lack of housing in the previous day and during the current day, so I'm not sure when you think I needed to gain more sickness. Can you provide a more exact timestamp or describe in detail what you think the mistake is? I'm not finding anything.

I'm not sure what you mean. If your citizens are under 4 sickness then there are no additional negative effects. I was definitely adding illness during the generator phase. Do you have a time stamp?
@Totally Tabled I don't have a time stamp. But definitely turn 9, 10, and 11. You either put coal in the generator off camera or you skipped it. It's hard to see the coal on the supply from the camera angle so I can't confirm if coal was spent.

The game is brutally difficult and I've never had another win that easy. That play was a mix of good fortune and a plan that came together. The key is controlling morale, but a tiny setback can spiral out of control fast. 10-20% win percentage would be good for this one I think. But for me the journey matters more than the win or loss. My lighting is a hodgepodge of cheaper LEDs carefully positioned to avoid glare (very difficult). I film in 4K, 24 frames and work in free DaVinci Resolve. That's about it. I think you missed a rule, at 2:30 you use the card to clean up the generator but you forgot to gain a sick engineer.
Ah, I think I understand the confusion. The spot on the card that says gain a sick engineer in the upper right corner, that only applies when discarding the card at the beginning of the game, not when using the card to take the action. Thanks for watching!

That's a great question, but I don't think I'm the best measure for this sort of thing, since I have always been someone who plays a game a handful of times and then puts it away for a while and comes back, plays a handful of times and puts it away. And now that I make videos, this is even more true. I have returned to Frostpunk after my video, but it has been over six months. I found it extremely easy to jump back in and play again -- long setup but nothing crazy. I think this game is extremely replay-able, BUT I don't know how binge-able it is. It is a solo event game for me (the same way something like Twilight Imperium 4 would be a multiplayer event game). I'm not going to obsessively pull it out every month but it will get played every year several times in a row and then put back. It is not like Spirit Island, which I know a lot of people binge and binge. Robinson Crusoe is binge-able for me. But games like Frostpunk and This War of Mine are more special event style games. Does that make sense? Either way, it is never leaving my collection and I will immediately snag any expansion content. It is a favorite of mine, but it might not be exactly what you are looking for. Robinson Crusoe would be my recommendation if you watch my playthrough and it looks fun. If you think the push your luck, dice rolling, random event draws would annoy you more than thrill you, then maybe Frostpunk. But Robinson Crusoe has been my favorite solo game and favorite co-op game for a decade. Thanks for watching!

At 42:24 you drop 4 cubes in the generator yet the heat marker indicates 7. I’m confused! Did you miss that one or I’ve been playing wrongly all this time and hence running out of coal all the time?
I'm afraid you have been making it harder on yourself, which you really don't want to do in this game. It is hard enough. You drop coal in the generator equal to the number on the left (in this case 4) and not the number on the far right (which is how many steps up the track you've gone). Hope that helps. @@TotallyTabled 🫠 damn! So the right indicator count that even has a little coal icon next to the number is not the one to follow? BTW I mentioned running out of coal but it’s actually the amount you drop in it, this coal comes from the bank not supply. The problem is that by round 7-8 you are literally dropping so many cubes it’s imposible not to blow up the generator in one turn. That was my real problem. Thanks so much for your answer!!!!

Sorry. That timestamp is at the beginning of the action phase. I gained sick people for lack of housing in the previous day and during the current day, so I'm not sure when you think I needed to gain more sickness. Can you provide a more exact timestamp or describe in detail what you think the mistake is? I'm not finding anything.

I'm not sure what you mean. If your citizens are under 4 sickness then there are no additional negative effects. I was definitely adding illness during the generator phase. Do you have a time stamp?
@Totally Tabled I don't have a time stamp. But definitely turn 9, 10, and 11. You either put coal in the generator off camera or you skipped it. It's hard to see the coal on the supply from the camera angle so I can't confirm if coal was spent.

@Totally Tabled Well dam. You're right. That's what I get for watching vids at 2am! I've played 10 games so far and lost every single one. "There's no way this game is that easy." Still a great game. Glad it's your best of 2022!
The game is brutally difficult and I've never had another win that easy. That play was a mix of good fortune and a plan that came together. The key is controlling morale, but a tiny setback can spiral out of control fast. 10-20% win percentage would be good for this one I think. But for me the journey matters more than the win or loss.
