Hey there all! There's been a lot of comments so far on this video saying "these weapons are actually really good in Medieval Mode/Degroot Keep!" While this may be true, I'd like to remind you all that a weapon's only positive use case being in a game mode where 90% of class abilities are stripped away and every player is put on nearly equal ground is, in fact, not a positive! That's like saying that someone is an MMA fighter because they beat a 6 year old in a boxing match. A weapon being good on Degroot Keep is NOT a boon to it and does, in fact, indicate exactly the opposite. I hope y'all enjoy the video either way!
Also, some of these weapons are good in MvM, but they are extremely different both in terms of what you are doing (killing large groups of enemies vs killing at most 3-4 enemies that people go even against by definition) and, due to weapon upgrades, even with weapon balance. They're effectively different games.
The conceptual use case for the Steak is the reason why it's banned in a couple of comp settings. It's a free speed boost that doesn't lower your base health. Plus it's still a medium healthpack for your medic which is what your sandvich is used for in 95% of situations
I wanna letcha know that I always appreciate your comments. Getting reminded of niche conceptual comp strategies is one of the most annoying things that TF2 TH-camrs have to deal with in general, but I always appreciate that your comments on the matter are level headed, constructive, and explanatory without being rude or condescending. You're like the only person who I'll listen to on the matter.
@@TealOpal I'm a little surprised to hear that because I feel like there's some (unintended) snark in some of the things I write. But idk maybe that's just my anxiety lol, I just like discussing TF2
@@TealOpal i once killed a pyro by running at them with it, they thought they could get away when i suddenly teleported behind them, they called me racial slurs :)
It's bizarre that the caber doesn't have a meter for the explosive to regenerate slowly, like how the razorback has now. It wouldn't change the weapon use dramatically, but you can now use your melee more than once in a life
I just use it on small maps like harvest and 2fort, equip full demoknight with boots, usually the screen for its crits at any charge range, and then run back to spawn after every kill. I can often get a 5 killstreak with this strategy. And it's fucking funny as hell. You can also use the sticky jumper. I try to troll snipers on 2fort
Interesting fact that I just learned. While not as reliable as it could be - Caber can one shot light classes IF you aim at their feet. Closer the explosion higher the damage, the distance is calculated from feet to the center of explosion. Is it perfect? Nope, but as far as killing a clueless sniper on Doublecross it does the job pretty well.
Funnily enough, the Buffalo Steak Sandvich *does* have a small niche outside of Medieval Mode, that being, when comboed with the Warrior's Spirit in MvM with max firing speed, it can be a shockingly good tank shredder. You'd be better shooting the robots, but if there's only a tank, it's better than shooting your minigun at it! Not like you're using your secondary and melee for much else, anyway.
I think its interesting there's a ring clearly underneath the hot hands glove. Also The hot hand is secretly a bat. The damage Penalty only makes mathematical sense if the individual hits are using the bat's base damage.
2:25 is that Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK, which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history?
The Caber definitely sucks, but I will say the allure of the crit caber when using the Targe is a bit too much for my ape brain to pass up. A well time crit can kill a small chunk of the enemy team, and even one shot a heavy. I really wish the hit reg was better though, because timing that kind of play is really much harder than it needs to be.
It's weird how TF2 just has a bunch of weapons that are in their currently design, just objectively bad to use. Like, if this was an RPG or something, there might be a case to use something until you find another better one, but for TF2, you already have weapons that are better.
The worst part about the Buffalo Steak is that I feel like it's a really cool IDEA, so you WANT to use it. You WANT it to be good, and it just falls short.
(I almost thought you didn't know about the lack of Charge Minicrits on the Caber, but thankfully not) Either way, I'm disappointed that Crit Shields were undersold when talking about The Caber. Despite the Caber Explosion being separate from the Melee itself, it still keeps the properties of being Crit boosted. As a result, when charging with a Crit Caber, it has the capability to one hit kill basically everything in the game with ~390 damage. Sure, it takes a lot of setup, and is very risky due to the reduced turns of the Crit Shields, but if you can get it work, it's very rewarding. Even to the people only getting impacted by the explosion, 150 damage is still scary to anyone in the blast radius of the Caber. It might not seem like much, but it can legitimately be threatening under the right circumstances.
2:50 "One shot light classes" the Caber can one-shot a Heavy if you get the crit from charging. If you worry more about having fun and less about racking up a KDR, caberknight is actually ridiculously fun for this reason. I've completed entire Demoman contracts with caberknight. The Buffalo Steak is also not as bad as people say it is. It still has the supportive utility of the Sandvich while being an option to increase your movement speed without the health drain of the GRU or Eviction Notice (and is banned in competitive for this reason, as it makes Heavy's rollout insane). I've also had some genuine fun just using it as intended. It doesn't work on a more focused gamemode like Attack/Defend or Payload, but on a map that's very split up where everyone is more doing their own thing such as Banana Bay, you can go ham running people over with your melee before they can even react (which I ended up doing once to my own surprise and delight when I realized I left it on in place of the Sandvich when I'd neglected to swap off a meme loadout at once point.) Also it's useful in MvM for tankbusting. (Also the Warrior's Spirit damage vulnerability doesn't stack with the Buffalo Steak's damage vulnerability.) The Hot Hand, while yes almost entirely useless in most gamemodes, is genuinely good in VSH. The double slap lets you wall climb twice per swing, which is a huge boon to your mobility, and it's excellent as an escape option since the two swings give you two chances to hit Hale, and getting that knockback from hitting him is essential to making any form of escape, which the speed boost also helps with. So there is genuine utility there.
The steak should have given Heavy a damage negation instead so then he could basically lose his DPS but become ungodly tanky. Then he could get in their face and just soak up damage by getting in the way, at least then it would have a niche of "Less damage, more tank"
actually, if the Gas passer had its recharge rate and damage charge gain changed from 60 seconds and 600 damage in PVP mode to 30 seconds and 300 damage or 45 seconds and 450 damage, that would make it better. Plus, if the Gas passer item mechanics were a core part of the class in a equipment slot, that would make the GasPasser style mechanics great for grenades, mines and utility items and solves the Team Fortress Classic grenade spammability issue.
@@drivanradosivic1357 The Gas Passer is just a slow Scorch Shot. Everything you can do with the Gas Passer you can do with one shot of the Scorch Shot or Detonator.
@@supermudkipz which is why I want improvements, even lowering the damage and time needed to recharge the Gas Passer is(I think 750 damage and 60 seconds to 450 damage and 40 seconds or 300 damage and 30 seconds) would make it better. I would include the ability to Press R to change between Gasoline cloud mode and Gasoline bomb mode. the recharge with damage and over time is a GREAT mechanic for grenade, mines and utility types for a slot 7 to switch to and use them, and you have one item to use, compared to Team Fortress Classic's mechanics of having 3 to 4 grenades and quick use keys would be a better way to use nades.
@@drivanradosivic1357 The Gas Passer needs to do more than just fire in order to set it apart from the likes of Pyro's other crowd control secondaries, such as making them take more fire damage or having the afterburn damage be unextinguishable by normal means.
@@supermudkipz So, Both Gasoline Cloud and Gasoline Bomb also giving a Gasoline debuff, where you take more fire damage and/or the Gasoline Afterburn is unextinguishable by normal means(medic crossbows and healthpacks do not help extinguish, resupply cabinet does, but going to resupply is an issue, you can use dispensers and mediguns to endure out the Gasoline Afterburn damage) with the only exception of extinguishing by Manmelter, because who would main a Manmelter a lot? (that and other things also need improvements, RIFT items aka SOAS and SVF, anyone?) that would also make the Gaspasser good to use. Also, I am of the opinion that the Scorch shot needs the bounce as a alt fire.
7:28 this animation of the demo caught me so off guard when I'm so used to seeing SFM or just in game footage for this sort of thing xD that was hilarious
The worst part of the buffalo steak sandvich is that if you buffed the speed and removed the damage penalty, and it’s downsides could be something like a longer recharge time and the fact that it isn’t a health item or shotgun. It could be a very solid alternate playstyle like fatscout.
@@redstonewarrior0152 I went with the heal on hit because every lunch box item does something with dedicated healing. The Sandvik is a straight forward self heal, the Dolokos Bar overheals, and the second banana recharges twice as fast and can be used twice. As far as I know none of the lunch box items have any resistances.
if that also came with a lack of damage vulnerability i could see it. The steak already makes you go into peoples face, meaning you eat all of their shots and melee attacks without a significant way to dodge, the damage vulnerability is entirely unnecessary in the light of that, the playstyle it forces you into already make you more vulnerable.
The ONE place I will the defend the Buffalo Steak is in Medieval mode. Going boxing heavy with the steak and the KGB is quite satisfying and quite addictive when you can pull it off, …. If you remove people ability to shoot you, and pyros ability to right click, and engineers ability to build sentries.
I think the main problem with these weapons (especially the steak and hand grenade) is that valve was scared to make them even somewhat viable, so they got nerfed so hard into the gronud that using them isnt even fun anymore
BSS is the best heavy secondary in MVM tank waves imo, heavy doesn't really eat his sandvich in MVM, so using it as just a medium health pack with the ability to take out tanks if need be is just better than the sandvich, now on waves/maps without tanks then yeah the sandvich is the better utility.
How to make the steak viable : >switch the 20% damage vulnerability to a 20% damage resistence >immunity from crits and minicrits upon eating Melee limiting weapons should only give you buffs , being limited in range is a crazy nerf on a class , range is one of the most important things in a fight : it's why sniper is soo strong , it can just deal max damage instantly even from max distance , while every other class will be unable to do so ... Mobility is also another big one , and heavy isn't it ... So yeah give the poor heavy resistence to crits and damage resistence , like imagine the terror a sniper will feel afther seeing they have to fire three fully charged shots to take the heavy out , it could also stuff the kritzkrieg , or demoknights ... It would turn the heavy in an unstoppable wall from wich all must run away or try to knock back , Lets also not forget : regular damage would still work , it would take 4 pipes to kill the heavy , or 4 rockets , or three seconds from a sentry , or an heavy ... It would make a medic necessary still , but it could have a usecase i reckon ...
i actualy sort of agree your alredy sacreficing having a shot gun or a on demand helth kit by using it and even with a damage resistance all youd need to counter it is to press "s" on your key board wile shoting him but full crit imunety combined with a damage resistance might be a litle too much if you combined it with the fists of steal youd basicaly become imortal but i understand the argument for it
The hot hand could've been fixed if the speed boost was either really high or the speed boost lasted longer so it could be more of an escape tool, because god knows that NOBODY is getting close to an enemy to slap them for 58 damage a time
The ONLY legitame use the steak has is that it technically lets heavy get to mid faster with the fist of steel. that's it, that's the only thing i can think of.
9:43 The steak can actually be a good mobility tool, as it’s movement speed buff when consumed can help you get to the front lines faster, or make a quick escape. It’s like the GRU, but with no health drain.
I MISS the old caber when it first came out! It was the most fun I ever had sticky jumping with the sticky jumper without the sticky bomb limit and terrorizing snipers. It was so fun that snipers lobbied and demanded Valve to nerf it and they won…
Fun fact: prior to its final nerf, the caber was equipped by some demos in competitive. The idea was that if you were meleeing someone as demo, you were already dead, so may as well take someone else out with you.
Fun Fact: the Steak Sandvich’s speed boost used to stack with the GRU’s speed boost allowing you to outrun Scout. I understand why they removed it but it’s still sad that they did
The Buffalo Steak Sandvich is fun with the holiday punch because of the movement speed buff. The ullapool caber is fun because you can blast jump as demoknight. The base jumper is also fun because it slows down the speed of charges, so I think it can reduce the disantce you have to go to get a crit.
another rarely mentioned kick in the head for the buffalo steak being garbage is the fact that mini crits cause your target to take increased knockback, throwing them farther back again from your MELEE swings. it'd honestly be better if it only gave you a speed up lol
Instead of the 20% vulnerability, Buffalo steak sandvich should drain health over time as you have your melee out, in line with the other speed boost weapons, in accordance with its rollout time potential. As an upside though, it should also offset the health drain with every hit you land on an enemy, and a set health replenish granted on every kill. So now, it isn't banned in competitive play, and has more synergy with its set weapons, getting even more health gain. Getting health back on every kill allows you to sustain yourself even better than the other food items in some situations. If you are in a bad spot where you're cornered, no other food item will save you. But with this, you can go on a suicidal rampage and potentially outlast the enemy.
the only reason to use the steak is if you want a speed boost while using a different melee, which can be helpful, but its so niche that you will never find a situation where youll say "man, i wish i had a buffalo steak right now"
Just get two heavies with the Buffalo Steak, go all in for glass cannon with the Warrior’s Spirit, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised how many enemies you can catch off guard. Just takes two swings for most classes, and two heavies will give that instantly. Also, people tend to underestimate how fast Heavy is under the BSS effect. Sure, it’s absolutely not as effective as mowing people down with the minigun, but it’s fun as heck, and that’s all I’m here for. Fun.
How I would conceptually rework each weapon: Ullapool Caber: (Same damage stats and swing speed stats) -Explosion does increased knockback to you and enemy -Right click: throw the caber. Can be done with or without explosive charge. If detonated, deals mini crits to airborne targets. If a throw is hit, caber (with charge) recharges charges over 10 seconds. If miss, caber does not respawn at all and requires respawn locker. Gameplay effect: makes caber a high-risk combo tool that requires a bit of skill to use. If you miss, you have NO melee for the next interaction. If you hit, you can continue to combo after a small cooldown. Buffalo Steak Sandwich: (Speed unchanged) -Remove mini crits -100 total health added upon eating for duration of effect -Charge time increased to 60 seconds -Active passive: Eating the steak will lock you to melee for 10 seconds. During this time, you initially get a 75% damage reduction and knockback resistance. Upon taking damage, the damage reduction reduces until 30% damage vulnerability (think of pre nerf bfb speed reduction). Upon kill, speed bonus increases by 10% up to 50%; effect extends for 2 seconds upon kill and 40 health is gained Gameplay effect: Heavy now has a tool clear space around certain points of interest while being able to pick off light/weak classes. Risky, but can snowball if executed well. Hot hand: -Remove weird two hit combo thing and replace with lmb being normal slap and rmb being back hand. Atk speed and damage reduced to axtinguisher swing speed and damage -15% damage vulnerability while active -On lmb hit: fill the “pimp” meter. The higher the pimp meter, the more move speed pyro gets (up to 4 head demo whatever that is in hu). Max speed requires 4 hits -On rmb click: Exhausts the pimp meter fully, but melee does increased damage (1:1 dmg increase percentage to pimp bar ratio) Gameplay Effect: Snowball item, allows for pyros who take risks to gain buffs for using melee. If caught off guard, can exhaust buffs in exchange for burst of damage.
Personally I love the caber, mostly because I suck so bad at demo that I'd only be getting that one hit either way, before getting killed, might as well go out like a Muslim extremist
The buffalo steak gives a small speed boost so it could go well with the gloves of running urgently in some specific circumstances. Best to only use it as a friendly though.
fun fact: the buffalo steak sandvich has a niche use on the new versus saxton hale because you can knock back saxton with your melee, and if good enough you can use the buffalo steak sandvich to dodge saxton's punches and keep hitting him, its better to use demoknight for this but the buffalo steak sandvich aint half bad either
It's a golden rule that if something has a one time use, it should be consistent. The fact that the weapon has >explosive falloff< is already a tragedy. They should just set it somewhere between 125 to 135 damage guaranteed and be done with it. Good enough to oneshot light classes, it's a one time use, and medics don't have to worry about being oneshot. No other bells and whistles.
I noticed you used the Tide Turner in every caber clip you showed. Try using it with a shield that crits and you may find yourself giggling at the 300-400 damage nukes.
Caber: Make it recharge after 30 seconds. Steak: Switch the damage penalty into a 12 health regen, lower the cooldown to 20 seconds from 30 and finally make the speed boost stack with the GRU/FoS. Hand: Remove speed boost on hit instead every slap increases pyro's speed by 5% up to 30%.
I feel like the BSS would be way better if it did some of these things: - Wanna keep it Melee focused? Turn the Mini-Crits into Full Crits. Now you actually kill 7 classes in one hit instead of only 4 - Don’t wanna do that? Then don’t make it Melee focused and let Heavy use a Mini-Crit affected minigun - Get rid of the secret stat, that shit is lame - Make every melee kill self-healing
The steak sandwich only has one, VERY situationally viable use: competitive 5CP rollouts to get you to mid **slightly** faster, given you pair it with the GRU. The problem is: comp is dead, and there are no other reason to use it otherwise.
I've grown to using the caber as a common melee choice when going grenade shield Demoman. Play normally with grenades, but if I see a juicy pick or am backed into a corner, I can use the caber as a hailmary to try and get that one last kill
The Ullapool Caber brings us a very interesting case. Honestly a weapon whose sole gimmick is being a one time use item kinda is doomed to fail cause you have to make that one use extremely worth it otherwise you're pretty much playing the game in shifts or just playing a way shitter Spy. Coupled with it taking a lunar year in order to deploy for some unholy reason, and it being lumped with bug after bug after bug, yeah it aint great. Also just saying the reason Medics complained about it was because it took 0 skill on the part of the Demoman and gave the Demo's team's Medic basically a free lead in Uber, and it pretty much forced the enemy team's Demoman to either do the same or for one of the team's other players to start Off-Classing when they probably shouldn't have to or really can't afford to.
The Steak has a use in MvM in making the Heavy pretty good at killing tanks. Now, yes, Pyro and Soldier can do that too but sometimes Heavy needs to get in there, and its very good at that
Would making it so that instead of making the Buffalo Steak a glass canon weapon, after you eat it, you can heal and can actually do full crits for 10 seconds while in melee mode and it wouldn't mark Heavy on death when employed, would that be a good change?
I think the reason the Hot Hand wasn't taken in as warmly as the other funni weapons (Market Gardener, Beggar's Bazooka, Bonk! Atomic Punch, etc.) was because it didn't really have any "OH MY GOD!" factor. The Critical Hit! sound from Market Gardening and that 100% kill on 7/9 classes made Trolldier good. The in-character feeling of being pressed against a wall, so you haphazardly throw three rockets into the clip and somehow kill everyone made Beggar's good. Bonk! is just silly. Hot Hand brings legitimately nothing to the table. It just... is.
I find the best playstyle for the caber to be Hybrid Caberknight. For the shield, I'll typically use the Charge N Targe since it has the best resistances and I can get the melee crit. As for the grenade launcher? Iron Bomber or Loose Cannon, specifically for mobility. I lean towards the IB more though, since you don't delete like half your HP per blast jump. It's fun.
9:50 I promise you I actually seriously use it a lot, I call it "Heavy Knighting" usually and use it with either the pan if I just wanna melee brawl orrrr fists of steel because the damage taken increase from the steak might be a bit.. oof... buuuut the FOS help to off-set it and give you a nice lil temporary speed boost and melee damage boost to rush a point. Like, legit, so many people just do not know how to react to a Heavy running at them refusing to die and punching all of their allies to death. XD I mean, it's not better than on-demand heals, but if you wanna do a melee focused style or rush somewhere as the Heavy, it's a good choice. *Although it is a pain that it's speed is capped so hard on speed.*
Slight correction: while Heavy theoretically does the best close-range DPS in the game, Pyro can do significantly better if you don't have godlike tracking of a close-range opponent trying to screw with it (and many people would use that as an option to avoid the highest DPS in the game).
One hidden stat of the buffalow steak buff ive found from using it quite a bit +200 Rage on veteran players on backstab (Yes backstab) Real talk I'd love it if steak let you keep the speed buff so long as you don't switch to your primary (we can keep the +20 vunerability so comps don't blow a vessle) Caber just needs a recharge bar (maybe a sword range buff if your feeling spicy) hot hand just extend the speed boost timer to half that of an axestingusiher kill and or give it switch speed/holster buff
BSS Can be used to get to the front lines and mid way faster as heavy while still having Fists of steel at the ready, and its still a medium health kit for your medic. Yes using it as intended its actually garbage, but its a perfectly solid alternative to the sandwich if you have a pocket medic.
I think they should add some satisfying utility to the Hot Hand. Like: If you connect the first slap, have the second slap light them on fire. If you connect the first slap on a burning player, critical hit for the second slap. Yeah, it'd be a way worse axtinguisher, but it would be SATISFYING to use and reward accuracy. Keeping its identity as a meme weapon, but actually incentivize people to use it, if only for the fun of it. As it is right now, it's both ineffective AND boring, and I think that's its core problem.
Actually, I would argue the buffalo steak sandvich does have a place in medieval mode, where in that instance being able to only use the fist is not a big deal. If you equip the fists of steel, you might be able to offset the damage penalty and so you make up for its weaknesses anyway.
steak sandvitch into killing gloves of boxing can help transfer the crits from melee to minigun, could be useful for flanking with heavy. although heavy is almost always better served on the objective
The fact that the item that strips the slowest class in the game to melee gives him a damage vulnerability is a complete joke. If anything, it should make you tankier.
I think the Hot Hand could be solid with a slight buff in numbers. Damage of something like 35 and another second or 2 of speed boost would make it okay enough. Not good necessarily but not painful to use at least
I know the caber is bad, but going full caberknight with either the charge 'n targe or the splendid screen and turning yourself into an (unreliable) ballistic missile is just way too much fun. And with some good timing and luck you can insta kill a group of people, especially on payload or cp maps. The amount of times where I charged a heavy, instantly deleted him off of the map and killed/severely wounded his teammates that used him as a meatshield makes it worth it for me (also charging into a nest and killing the engineer before his sentry can turn to shoot you is also incredibly funny)
I will admit that the steak has better options, but it is still my main Heavy secondary. I combine it with the fists of steel and just cause people to panic as they tend to forget about the damage resistance of the fists. It also freaks them out when you run as fast as them. However, I also main with the Brass Beast, so I don't normally play with a "good" loadout.
I feel like while being a reskin the holy mackerel is a successfully meme weapon, A scout choosing to finish somebody off with their melee over their much better primaries already feels humiliating and that melee being a stinky fish enhances that. I think the weapon also has a weird allure that makes Scouts REALLY want those fish kills. Adding cause it's related to the Hot Hand comment, back before the Dead Ringer speed boost I found melee killing spies with the fish & having that kill feed information gave me handy information for whether I should throw down mad milk or not. These days the information is very nice but way more niche. Overall I prefer the atomizer but have considered buying a unusual fish. Despite all it's downsides I like the idea behind the buffalo steak despite it falling flat on its face, definitely a worse weapon contender. I think the health on kill idea is great along side changing the +20% damage taken to a +20% damage resistance and allowing Heavies to cancel out the weapons effects by pulling out their primary. I've seen some Demomen preform well with the caber but it's definitely in a sorry state. I use to use the weapon on stock demoman as a last resort in close encounters but the pull out speed ruins that these days. I think the weapon would benefit from better damage overall, stronger explosive damage and even a long recharge time to restore it that could be sped up by getting 2 to 3 melee kills. Hothand is in the game, I have never used it, the speed boost on hit reminds me of the old eviction notice. Thanks for the upload & thank you for reading.

The hot hand should have been able to switch an enemies held weapon randomly on hit
I actually find it's good in mediaeval mode due to more crits
no thats stupid
Yeah thats dumb as rocks
The Caber definitely sucks, but I will say the allure of the crit caber when using the Targe is a bit too much for my ape brain to pass up. A well time crit can kill a small chunk of the enemy team, and even one shot a heavy. I really wish the hit reg was better though, because timing that kind of play is really much harder than it needs to be.
It's weird how TF2 just has a bunch of weapons that are in their currently design, just objectively bad to use. Like, if this was an RPG or something, there might be a case to use something until you find another better one, but for TF2, you already have weapons that are better.
Remember when you could terrorize 2Fort Snipers with the Caber's one shot?
Pepperidge Farm remembers.
The worst part about the Buffalo Steak is that I feel like it's a really cool IDEA, so you WANT to use it. You WANT it to be good, and it just falls short.
I dunno why Valve tacked on so many negatives when "restricted to melee" is already a devastating restriction for heavy.
(I almost thought you didn't know about the lack of Charge Minicrits on the Caber, but thankfully not)
Either way, I'm disappointed that Crit Shields were undersold when talking about The Caber.
Was looking for this comment, thanks for adding it
another note about the hot hand is that due to the double-attack, it's terrible with crits, which is how most melee weapons get kills anyway
(Also the Warrior's Spirit damage vulnerability doesn't stack with the Buffalo Steak's damage vulnerability.)
The Hot Hand, while yes almost entirely useless in most gamemodes, is genuinely good in VSH.
The caber is a very food fuck you in particular weapon, very fun to use with the loose canon and splendid screen.
That my exact loadout 😂
it is infact very food i eat it all the time
imo the gas passer is worse than all 3 of these weapons because you cant even use it when you spawn
actually, if the Gas passer had its recharge rate and damage charge gain changed from 60 seconds and 600 damage in PVP mode to 30 seconds and 300 damage or 45 seconds and 450 damage, that would make it better.
Also, I am of the opinion that the Scorch shot needs the bounce as a alt fire.
i remenber a friend saying that the caber will decent if at least recharge on kill,by collecting ammo or every 30s
It used to be that way
7:28 this animation of the demo caught me so off guard when I'm so used to seeing SFM or just in game footage for this sort of thing xD that was hilarious
The worst part of the buffalo steak sandvich is that if you buffed the speed and removed the damage penalty, and it’s downsides could be something like a longer recharge time and the fact that it isn’t a health item or shotgun. It could be a very solid alternate playstyle like fatscout.
Would it be better if the Buffalo Steak had a "Heal on Hit" mechanic?
It would be better if it was a 20% damage resistance in place of a 20% damage vulnerability.
The caber is really good for countering heavy mains while revved up
The ONE place I will the defend the Buffalo Steak is in Medieval mode. Going boxing heavy with the steak and the KGB is quite satisfying and quite addictive when you can pull it off, …. If you remove people ability to shoot you, and pyros ability to right click, and engineers ability to build sentries.
agreed but in literaly every other game mode its almost objectivly a down grade
I think the main problem with these weapons (especially the steak and hand grenade) is that valve was scared to make them even somewhat viable, so they got nerfed so hard into the gronud that using them isnt even fun anymore
the Viablity the BSS has is in MVM for Tank shredding
That's great but from my experience Heavy is usually focusing Bot waves in MVM while his team kills tanks
@@TealOpal all they really need to do is get rid of those stupid damage vulnerablity. Make it a Discount melee only crit-a-cola.
How to make the steak viable :
>switch the 20% damage vulnerability to a 20% damage resistence
>immunity from crits and minicrits upon eating
Melee limiting weapons should only give you buffs , being limited in range is a crazy nerf on a class , range is one of the most important things in a fight : it's why sniper is soo strong , it can just deal max damage instantly even from max distance , while every other class will be unable to do so ...
It would turn the heavy in an unstoppable wall from wich all must run away or try to knock back ,
Lets also not forget : regular damage would still work , it would take 4 pipes to kill the heavy , or 4 rockets , or three seconds from a sentry , or an heavy ...
It would make a medic necessary still , but it could have a usecase i reckon ...
i actualy sort of agree your alredy sacreficing having a shot gun or a on demand helth kit by using it and even with a damage resistance all youd need to counter it is to press "s" on your key board wile shoting him but full crit imunety combined with a damage resistance might be a litle too much if you combined it with the fists of steal youd basicaly become imortal but i understand the argument for it
steak+kgb=grofit
I remember when evictionnotice wasn't nerfed yet, it was a great combo for a speed heavy. good times
Okay but you still need two punches to kill a light class and you'd still get crits afterwards either way, with or without the Steak.
@@TealOpal But the added speed makes it easier for you to connect those first two punches, and then start a chain of one punching class after class.
Buffalo is only good for destroying people with holiday punch or bear punch
Fyi i am also a heavy main (and a pyro main)
bison over steak is insanity
The hot hand could've been fixed if the speed boost was either really high or the speed boost lasted longer so it could be more of an escape tool, because god knows that NOBODY is getting close to an enemy to slap them for 58 damage a time
9:41 / 24:36 Well the Buffolo Steak helps heavy get to mid in copetetive, so much even so that it is band in some competetive servers
The ONLY legitame use the steak has is that it technically lets heavy get to mid faster with the fist of steel. that's it, that's the only thing i can think of.
And that is something so powerful that competitive bans this use
9:43 The steak can actually be a good mobility tool, as it’s movement speed buff when consumed can help you get to the front lines faster, or make a quick escape. It’s like the GRU, but with no health drain.
I MISS the old caber when it first came out! It was the most fun I ever had sticky jumping with the sticky jumper without the sticky bomb limit and terrorizing snipers. It was so fun that snipers lobbied and demanded Valve to nerf it and they won…
17:06 ♪♫CRUISIN' DOWN THE STREET IN MY '64♫♪
Fun fact: prior to its final nerf, the caber was equipped by some demos in competitive. The idea was that if you were meleeing someone as demo, you were already dead, so may as well take someone else out with you.
4:13 it hurts to see him blame a good weapon without using it's full potential
alt title: weapons that are only slightly useful in medieval mode
The reason the ullapool caber doesn't oneshot light classes is because he isn't pulling the pin to bring the full explosion.
Fun.
The Buffalo Steak Sandvich is actually really good and underrated and my main Heavy secondary.
How I would conceptually rework each weapon:
Ullapool Caber:
(Same damage stats and swing speed stats)
-Explosion does increased knockback to you and enemy
-Right click: throw the caber.
Buffalo Steak Sandwich:
(Speed unchanged)
-Remove mini crits
-100 total health added upon eating for duration of effect
-Charge time increased to 60 seconds
-Active passive: Eating the steak will lock you to melee for 10 seconds. During this time, you initially get a 75% damage reduction and knockback resistance. Upon taking damage, the damage reduction reduces until 30% damage vulnerability (think of pre nerf bfb speed reduction). Upon kill, speed bonus increases by 10% up to 50%; effect extends for 2 seconds upon kill and 40 health is gained
Gameplay effect: Heavy now has a tool clear space around certain points of interest while being able to pick off light/weak classes. Risky, but can snowball if executed well.
Hot hand:
-Remove weird two hit combo thing and replace with lmb being normal slap and rmb being back hand. Atk speed and damage reduced to axtinguisher swing speed and damage
-15% damage vulnerability while active
-On lmb hit: fill the “pimp” meter. The higher the pimp meter, the more move speed pyro gets (up to 4 head demo whatever that is in hu). Max speed requires 4 hits
-On rmb click: Exhausts the pimp meter fully, but melee does increased damage (1:1 dmg increase percentage to pimp bar ratio)
Gameplay Effect: Snowball item, allows for pyros who take risks to gain buffs for using melee. If caught off guard, can exhaust buffs in exchange for burst of damage.
Buffalo Steak should last until you want to switch, it'd be fun if you didn't have to constantly eat it
Personally I love the caber, mostly because I suck so bad at demo that I'd only be getting that one hit either way, before getting killed, might as well go out like a Muslim extremist

"medieval mode"
The buffalo steak gives a small speed boost so it could go well with the gloves of running urgently in some specific circumstances. Best to only use it as a friendly though.
Wondered why the gas passer wasn't on this list. Then I remembered that it isn't even a meme, it's just bad.
I feel like the Hot Hand could easily be made viable by giving it the same speed up on hitting teammates as the disciplinary action
Ngl the Buffalo’s Steak is more of a gimmick weapon, but would it be good if they made so you can climb up walls after consumption by punching walls
fun fact: the buffalo steak sandvich has a niche use on the new versus saxton hale because you can knock back saxton with your melee, and if good enough you can use the buffalo steak sandvich to dodge saxton's punches and keep hitting him, its better to use demoknight for this but the buffalo steak sandvich aint half bad either
Fun Fact: The caber is the only explosive crit damage on demand in the game
It's a golden rule that if something has a one time use, it should be consistent.
The fact that the weapon has >explosive falloff< is already a tragedy.
They should just set it somewhere between 125 to 135 damage guaranteed and be done with it. Good enough to oneshot light classes, it's a one time use, and medics don't have to worry about being oneshot. No other bells and whistles.
I noticed you used the Tide Turner in every caber clip you showed. Try using it with a shield that crits and you may find yourself giggling at the 300-400 damage nukes.
5:43 hey it's moist opening cookie clicker to leave on for hours every day
17:37 I was about to say "but Gas Passer is great for MVM" but then I remember we're talking about if it's liked...
so, no, yeah, def. lmao
I feel like the BSS would be way better if it did some of these things:
- Wanna keep it Melee focused? Turn the Mini-Crits into Full Crits. Now you actually kill 7 classes in one hit instead of only 4
- Don’t wanna do that? Then don’t make it Melee focused and let Heavy use a Mini-Crit affected minigun
- Get rid of the secret stat, that shit is lame
- Make every melee kill self-healing
The steak is literally banned in 6s because it can get you to mid faster lol
The steak sandwich only has one, VERY situationally viable use: competitive 5CP rollouts to get you to mid **slightly** faster, given you pair it with the GRU. The problem is: comp is dead, and there are no other reason to use it otherwise.
Imagine not using the KGB with the steak, second most fun class to play imo.
I've grown to using the caber as a common melee choice when going grenade shield Demoman. Play normally with grenades, but if I see a juicy pick or am backed into a corner, I can use the caber as a hailmary to try and get that one last kill
For the steak, it's got one use case: Heavy's best Tank Busting combo in MvM, that's it
The Ullapool Caber brings us a very interesting case.
Also just saying the reason Medics complained about it was because it took 0 skill on the part of the Demoman and gave the Demo's team's Medic basically a free lead in Uber, and it pretty much forced the enemy team's Demoman to either do the same or for one of the team's other players to start Off-Classing when they probably shouldn't have to or really can't afford to.
the way i would buff the hot hand is to give it the speed boost the disciplinary action has instead of the speed boost on hit
For the Hot Hand, I think increasing its fire speed each time the slap hits (decreasing with misses, but not below base speed) might be pretty good?
It's fun.
Promotion Skip Button: 1:45
Caber dealing 300+ crit damage my beloved.
XD
I mean, it's not better than on-demand heals, but if you wanna do a melee focused style or rush somewhere as the Heavy, it's a good choice.
One hidden stat of the buffalow steak buff ive found from using it quite a bit
+200 Rage on veteran players on backstab (Yes backstab)
Real talk I'd love it if steak let you keep the speed buff so long as you don't switch to your primary (we can keep the +20 vunerability so comps don't blow a vessle)
Caber just needs a recharge bar (maybe a sword range buff if your feeling spicy)
hot hand just extend the speed boost timer to half that of an axestingusiher kill and or give it switch speed/holster buff
There is a use for the steak. Medieval mode. Otherwise, you're right.
A weapon only being good in Medieval Mode is not an upside.
@@TealOpal never said it was a good use.
BSS Can be used to get to the front lines and mid way faster as heavy while still having Fists of steel at the ready, and its still a medium health kit for your medic. Yes using it as intended its actually garbage, but its a perfectly solid alternative to the sandwich if you have a pocket medic.
fists + steak is actually 28% resistance due to it being multiplicative
I think they should add some satisfying utility to the Hot Hand. Like:
If you connect the first slap, have the second slap light them on fire.
It's a pretty niche niche I know
steak sandvitch into killing gloves of boxing can help transfer the crits from melee to minigun, could be useful for flanking with heavy. although heavy is almost always better served on the objective
The fact that the item that strips the slowest class in the game to melee gives him a damage vulnerability is a complete joke. If anything, it should make you tankier.
The Steak works well with the KGB in Medieval.
I really wish the hot hand was one slap per click and not two, the two swing style makes it feel so jank to use.
I think the Hot Hand could be solid with a slight buff in numbers. Damage of something like 35 and another second or 2 of speed boost would make it okay enough. Not good necessarily but not painful to use at least
The steak is really good in medieval mode tho
The bss should give you a 25% damage resist same move speed buff and possibly garnered crits
I use throw meme weapons because they are apart of item sets
the steak is a big heal kit for teammates, so it's kinda cool i guess
My buffalo steak KDR might be in the negatives, but its still good in my heart
