I will need this. My bike has brake levers and cables wraped on drop-handlebars, and second smaller levers on top section...I was ready to give up on the idea of converting...Thank you.
This can be a magnetic sensor switch, an optical sensor, or an ordinary lever switch with a spring // in some designs, it is placed in series in the circuit and when it is removed, the motor stops.
Could I use this same set up but for brake lighting? Looking to add some brake lights to my ebike but I'm trying to run it off a 36V battery with a 12V step down converter which I'm currently trying to install to power a horn as well as the lights
looking to build an ebike. my bike only has rear brakes with brake levers on the right hand side of the handle bars. If I put a cutoff lever from an ebike kit on the left side of the handlebars without a brake cable running through, will it still cut the power to the motor off when used?
You can use this same switch actually. The switch is open when the magnet is touching and closed when the magnet is away. So your brake light would light up when the magnet is away from the sensor just as you need it to be.
There is a 1 to 2 second delay when using pedal assist ie when you stop pedaling so you would want it then so you are not fighting the motor when breaking in an emergency situation however he is using a throttle so not sure about any delay with that, it could save your life quite literally.
I bought a kit where the PAS sensor and brake lever didn't fit and I had to use the thumb throttle only for a week. Since buying the correct PAS sensor I found an issue when slowing down approaching a T-junction... I needed to rotate the cranks to downshift the front chainring, so I would be able to pull away from stationary when the traffic was clear. On PAS level #5 the bike suddenly accelerated in a short burst towards approaching traffic and I had to slam on the brakes and skidded a bit. Using PAS #1-3 seemed to reduce the unintended acceleration but I just have to be careful to not turn the crank when stopping. A trick I read would be to use a brake sensor and pull the lever slightly to disable the motor temporarily.
Hi bit of advice please. Wanting to buy a used ebike. But brakes have Ben changed to hydraulic with no cut off. I dont think that's fully safe. Would installing one of these be a solution ? It's a m1 pro . Thanks!
Genius mate well thought out hack
I like when people use their brain

I really liked this video buddy , I was looking for it since an hour

You'll have to keep redoing it as the brake cable stretches!
Only issue with this is, over long period of time you will damage your frame paint with the friction.
Good Idea I will copy ta.
Just upgrade brake to hydraulic, how to install power cut off?
My Bosch powered ebike does not have these cutoffs...why exactly are they needed? Is is some bs safety regulation

I wouldn’t recommend that. The brake cut off is nice to have for safety, but isn’t absolutely necessary.
normally open or normally closed ?
Normally closed. Brake to open and break the circuit.
I could set this up the other way around so that the magnet is dragged towards the sensor when u brake to activate a brake light?
No you would need to set it up the same way I did. The magnet and sensor need to be together while riding and pulled apart when braking. Good luck.

Hydraulic brakes
Clever, but a bit too vulnerable for me.
To be honest it’s been rock solid. I haven’t had a problem with it.
I would be tempted to just permanently short these wires..who needs this function?
