    That guitar he is reviewing does not have the details in place and I’m not sure why, but I have that exact guitar, and it was built in 2023, and all the the flaws he is pointing out do not exist on mine. If you want the guitar, buy it. It is not a disappointment. It plays incredibly fast and is lightweight. I couldn’t be happier.

    This made me recall an interesting Gibson guitar story. My musical mentor plays a very old Gibson byrdland. He has played it so long there is a hole worn in the face. One night, about 15 years ago, I was helping him pack up. I noticed he still had the receipt from when he bought the guitar new. He bought it on Dec 15th, 1959, the day I was born.

    I can not imagine being such a big name, charging such a big price, and sending out such low quality junk. You are not the first person I’ve heard talk about Gibson’s lack of quality control. I’ve never taken up playing myself but I appreciate craftsmanship. There is a pure art to producing a high quality instrument of any sort.

      @@zurielfigueroa706 I bought a new Gibson LP JR last Oct. Mine has the same issue with the finish on the neck heel where it meets the body. The place I bought it from had a $100 off coupon and they knocked off another 100 for the finish imperfection. I used the savings to buy a MCB & studs and a new nut, because the knuckle heads at Gibson cut the G string slot too low. Now I have a great LP JR. Plays awesome, great tones and stays in tune.

    I bought the 2019 b2 Satin Ebony with dirty fingers plus pickups and just one master volume control and one master tone control. I'm relatively inexperienced with guitars so I can't comment on things like fit & finish etc. but what I will admit fully is I bought it for a combination of both utility AND provenance. I like heavier styles of rock and the Gibson flying v has a lot of history behind it. The model I chose to go with was RELATIVELY inexpensive (by Gibson standards) and has the high gain dirty fingers plus pickups which I can make use of. So I'm happy with it.

    I wish I could have as many holidays as they allowed in the finish... I have seen kids in wood shop do a better job, to be brutally honest. (Of course, the kid in woodshop made his out of whatever wood was available, so it was something like Birdseye maple with an ebonized oak neck, finished with iron acetate. Even though the hardware was scavenged, he put his heart and soul into the thing.)

    Is that topcoat finished with a brush? Looks odd.
    NC tends to shrink when it dries. Heavy layers is a risk for a crack in the future. Also any tight insides in a curve has a risk of "lifting off" and creating a bubble/hollow spot under the coating because of shrinkage.
    (i know nothing about guitars, but many varnishes/lacquers/topcoats are familiar to me)

    • @KleshGuitarsOfficial
      @KleshGuitarsOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They do spray with using hvlp guns but the combination of way too heavy coats of lacquer combined with un-level sanding , and then buffing too soon on un-cured NC is exactly how you'd expect it to come out. Looking like a stoned high school wood shop student did it.

    That’s a pretty thorough review been looking at that model, however I wouldn’t let any of that finish stuff stop me because even with a museum quality finish, the minute you ding it up or scuff it while playing it, then all of that goes out the door anyway, so it doesn’t really bother me that much. In all honesty as long as the thing says Gibson and I can claim to have my fix as far as owning something genuine that’s it😆

    Mine had rippling on the top of fret board that lays on the neck. It looks like brush marks where the nitro urethane did not coat smoothly. Everywhere else is fine so I think I got a good one and can sand and re-shoot it easily. The grain on mine looks like a one piece compared to others so I am happy with it. It sounds raw and resonant. Sustains long and looks cooler than any other guitar. And if you can't play well it makes the best wall hanger. Chicks will dig it!

    I have one built during covid. It has a weird section of light grain on the fretboard near the nut that's not the normal, attractive, streaking that rosewood has. I'm sure that the piece of wood used for the fretboard would have been rejected pre or post covid. Guitars were harder to get then, as retailers were constantly waiting on stock, so I did not get the chance to pick one from the gallery as normal. It wouldn't have been my first pick given a choice, but I'm OK with it, considering the circumstances at the time--high demand and low availability. I haven't given it as thorough an inspection as you did on yours, but other than the weird grain on the fb, I didn't notice anything shoddy. I got it for $1500 from SW. TBH, this being one of the lower end Gibson's price wise, and the fact that it was made during covid, I did not expect a lot out of it except playability and sound. Here's a tip: always ask for a discount. You'll usually get one, especially if you establish a good relationship with your local shop or sales rep.

It is like when you rent a uhaul and then they inspect it when you take it back in and charge you for any dings. You should send this to Gibson Quality Control and suggest a partial refund to cover the price of fixing the problems. lol

      If done the right way, which is many layers of finish with wet sanding and days in between coats to allow the nitrocellulose to cure, it takes about 2 weeks. I'd say they take no more than 5 days if I had to guess. If they took a full week it would surprise me.

      If the wood was sanded properly, and the nitrocellulose is thin (it should be thin) then yes the finish will follow the wood grain on your 5A top. The Wavy finish here is not bcause it's thin or following the wood. It's just wavy due to poor finish sanding. Big difference.

For 2,000.00 you should expect decent quality and Gibson has lacked in that dept. for quite a long time. They sure smell awesome but not 2,000 dollar awesome. I have stayed away from Gibson guitars for many years because of their issues but I recently wanted an ax with some P90's so I purchased a Gibson SG Special with p90's as a demo model from S W. Unfortunately, Gibson is a hit or miss with their QC. I have an '18 Explorer in natural that is flawless, a '19 Les Paul Standard that is also flawless and beautiful, a '20 70's Flying-V in white that is what I would consider as very good to excellent. I had initially ordered one when they first released and the one I received was terrible. They definitely rushed it. It didnt de-gas and really smelled bad. The finish under the bridge was flaking off, the neck joint finish and along the fret board finish was not good at all. I returned it right away. I also have a '21 Les Paul Classic in cherry that I bought as a body/neck and custom built with top end parts that is flawless. Great guitar. Overall, I've been pretty lucky, I guess.

    • @KleshGuitarsOfficial
      @KleshGuitarsOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah they're all different but that's almost the problem. When a company is "hit or miss", ...it's always Miss for me. At least in my opinion, they need to fire and re-hire the QC (and finish) department

    I think in 2022 people who buy Gibson’s don’t do so for the “perfection” (or lack there of) of their finishes because everyone wants their finish to eventually crack & look “aged” & “used”. Gibson has an entire line & created an entire division called Murphy Lab to emulate guitars that are much much older than they are. Most Gibson players know after 15-20yrs their finish is going to look like crap but consider it a “good crap”. I do however, think you’re spot on with the lack of time spent on “finishing” the finish but I think it’s more of a product of their own success more so than a genuine QC issue. It’s a supply & demand problem not a problem within Gibson as a whole, they can’t keep them in stock & generally don’t have the time to take to get the finish 100%. Sure, they could, but in reality I would imagine their thinking is more of “good enough to play & get it out the door because we have to ride this wave as long as possible. If we slow down it could create a gap in the market that could be the end of the high demand.” I am Harley owner too & for several years before I bought my 1st one I had always been warned about wait lists & quality problems etc, didn’t experience a wait list but my point is that waiting on stock opens up the door for nay-sayers to s**t on all of the imperfections & artificially or legitimately depending on how you look at it, open the door to slow the demand. If the market has to wait as the old saying goes “Idle hands are the devil’s playground” more & more people are likely to have time to further research the guitar they have on order & are waiting for & that could open the door for canceled orders en-mass. I guess in a nutshell you could wait 3-6 months for a 100% perfect guitar, get it & be happy or you could spend that 3-6 months researching a company who have had a long history of QC issues & entire “eras” of bad runs & entire “eras” of good runs & take the chance that what you get is garbage. I don’t think Gibson wants that gap in the market to allow people the time when what they’re putting out today is “good enough”. I hope that makes sense. If you did a Made to Measure from their Custom Shop not only will you be waiting upwards of a year you’re also going to receive something that is unparalleled in quality & Gibson just doesn’t have the history of QC to make people wait that long for their general production USA guitars.

    • @KleshGuitarsOfficial
      @KleshGuitarsOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, that's true! Gibson doesn't spend the time to create a quality instrument (for that price), and yet people buy it anyway. Good for them to churn out production, but for the customer it's kind of a slap in the face.

      That's debatable, but yes i've heard people say Nitro is better than Poly , and certainly is true on Acoustic instruments. On electrics...even though all instruments are acoustic before being electric..hard to tell any tone difference between finishes. Even with passive pickups.

    This guitar is $8,000.00 cheaper than the Gibson '58 Korina model, which I believe is highway robbery. $10,000.00 dollars is a lot of money for one guitar, it's ridiculous.
    I don't know "about a third of the price", but the Epiphone equivalent of the Gibson '58 Korina Flying V ($9,999.00) is only $1,299.00. Epiphone has finally started making some decent guitars.
    I was thinking, why don't I spend an additional $700.00 and get the Gibson Natural V until I saw this video. Thank you for this video, I almost made a mistake.

    A lot of b**ching. It’s a hand made product. Also, let me tune down to ‘B’ and then show you how it buzzes so I have something to complain about but I’ll caveat that I’m not ‘really’ complaining. When you change the tuning, you change the string tension, which effects the neck and then requires adjustment… it’s your fault, not Gibson

    No, you are not being picky.
    These guitars are supposed to be made by a reputable company. In the past this would have been unacceptable, so what has happened to quality control?. Secondly, the owner should decide to oil their own fretboard, not the middleman. I’d be fuming at this point and the guitar would be sent back immediately. If people keep accepting this low standard, it will be accepted as normal.

      Companies have used the smoke screen of inflation to score record profits because customs are expecting to pay more. That shit has to stop. Buy used, drive sales down and quality will get better. Capitalism works both ways.
