A New Project: Saving a Flood Damaged House

- This house was one of the many 'yellow stickered' houses after the August 2022 floods in Nelson. Some houses were also red stickers, meaning they were condemned altogether. In this episode I join the crew at Nelson Builders and help out!

Nice nice nice. This is the old style content I fell in love with.
Yep, looking at those old house was cool and it is neat to see how they do new homes.
good refreshing content indeed, feels like we are on a break too 😅
+1
I was missing this!!!
Those SPAX screw really a god send
I remember years ago us subscribers were super keen to see you buy and renovate your own house. Now it’s done, it’s like we’ve gone full circle and we’re back to videos that made us fall in love with Scotty ❤
Really really good to see you back on site👌
I only have a drill, so I use it for everything, but impact drivers are smaller (so fit into tighter spaces) and lighter (so you can use them more comfortably for longer).
The end of 2021 until the end of 2023, was an absolute horrible time for wet weather, and flash floods throughout the whole of NZ. I can't recall so much wet weather, so much slush, so much gloom. What we found out was that drainage systems were inadequate to deal with the deluge, and the run off caused by the excessive rain.
Back to original content .
Remodeling your own house is fun, but THIS RIGHT HERE is the OG content! ❤
its been a long time since we've seen a proper smoko, nice
To all those builders that Scott puts his camera into their faces … Thank you for putting up for it 🙏. We love watching/seeing what you do!!!
Who would have thought we would live to see the day; he's back in his natural habitat 👌
FINALLY. This is the reason i subscribed to this channel in the first place. I love this type of content
And he’s back! Hope there’s more to come. We get so many ideas from these disaster rebuilds, thanks Scott.
We use impact drivers because they don't break fasteners like drill do... That and the blat blat makes you sound productive.
They also won't break your wrist with torque
They also make you look like a man
When I hear an impact ringing out somewhere in my neighborhood, I know I am among my people
Oh boy.... the debate of impact vs. drill..... both have their places. As a finish carpenter, I prefer the softer touch of the drill. But long fasteners for framing, decking etc, an impact is my preference.
You moved in December 2021?! Jeez, time really is slipping away!
I enjoy watching you on a Real Building Site for a change.
About time we got a reunion with Pareau and Kameron.
Expecting David Attenborough voice over " here we see the master builder returning once again to his natural habitat...." 😂
Could see you were enjoying being back on site Scott. Thanks for the latest exciting episode.👍👍
Why do we continue to build houses around the world in the most inappropriate places. Let’s build a house at the bottom of a steep slope, with huge potential for run off and landslip….on the plus side we get to see Scott back in his natural habitat 😀
A change is as good as a rest. Don't worry about the house. Sure what trades person ever really finishes their own home.😂. Great content as usual. ❤
You look chippier on the job site Scott. That is a serious retaining wall. Thanks for Sharing...
Good to see you released into the wild Scott. Looks like you enjoyed the job and the company.
Always watch no matter what Scott, but this we definitely nice to see the old style vids mate
I find it funny how all the additional bracing is required, but simple things like spillways are nowhere to be found to direct the water when such an event happens.
Now this is the type of video that persuaded me to take up carpentry 😁
Hey I got the same tool belt as you and was wondering what Chicago screws you used to hold your shoulder straps together since your setup looks so nice?
Lots to do and in a good cause, helping someone get close to returning to their home. In Florida I worry about hurricanes but still cannot imagine losing everything!!
yess!! Scott on jobsite is back! missed these videos so much! i mean, house videos were cool, but this is what made me love the channel! 🖤
I need details on that coffee maker!
Please start building again. I love this content
The weather every where has been weird. Contratry to belief, here in the UK we do have a summer. But the Summer of 22 it rained for nearly 3 months solid, this summer its colder than it should be. In Europe the weather has been to extremes. High highs, and massive flooding. THe weather every where is off the scale.
Good to see you out on a building site SBC Can’t wait to see your finished laundry.👍😎
Really interesting to see some of these flood damage houses up close. Really interesting
Yeaaah back on constructionsites, love to see old style content again :)
That huge hill looks like a nightmare waiting to happen again with heavy rain.
Saturday morning and an episode of SBC with a cup of tea to start the day indeed
Nice video just got my new Makita 40V impact (so powerful and my first 40V tool :) ). How is Pareau has he healed after the injury, hope to see some videos with the old gang in the future.
Just like the good old days! 👌
This has actually started happening here in Norway too, more than before. Flash floods and 300mm rain during a few hours.
yes why does everyone use impact drivers? poor control, loud, rattle guns. yes they handy for high torque but normal screws cant beat a standard small driver
So many youtube videos of actual builders being like "Why have we been using impact drivers" haha. TBF I think drivers themselves have come a long way, in particular in their ability NOT To break your wrist with torque.
use the drill, every time...
all the other guys I work with use an impact a part from the boss
the 2 of us with drills will put in more screws than the 6 other guys using impacts
use less battery too
Scott the people weren’t wrong about the weather it’s just upside down here too in Ireland last 2to 3years definitely changed
Man I love quality builds. Wish all builders worked this way 👌👌
Solid video mate!
Really enjoyed you working with a building group, nice variety.
Still looks like that hill is going to come down and burst over that retainer , idk scotty ???.
Those big screws at the end are so handy for many applications, along with lots of holding power. Nice the explanations and how to install recessed strapping double time and the ruler trick.
Enjoy the reno work, ways to upgrade old properties.
Why do you use the metal ceiling top hat? Why not put the plasterboard straight to the trusses? Here in the UK we tack strait to trusses
The weather is strange at the moment even here in Australia. Should be cold being winter, more like summer storm weather
I would love to see a lunch packing/gear video as weird as that may sound!
G’day Scott, what species is the framing timber?
If it was sunshine you were after you should have moved to Taranaki!
I oly use n impact if the drill/driver wont do it,like those coach screws for hold downs
You can never beat Mother Nature.
It must have been soul destroying to see that happen to that man's home
Impact driver won’t twist your hand like a drill will do.
Awesome vid.
A bit of a random one here, where did you get your vest from?
Finally on site videos!!!! Please bring these back again
0:02
Yes it's taken me ages to find the benefits of an impact driver lol
Back on the job site! Great episode. Ray phone call was a good addition
More of this stuff on site please. Like older eps. Good stuff
Loved the return to the old style mate.
Good to see you back and giving us more trick for constructions.
Bro your aging really quick. Get some rest
Nice to see you back in construction, you looked happier. Does NZ have RockWool, and Canadian brand of insulation that is non itchy and fireproof. Question is that slope stable or will it slide again, even with remediation? That retaining wall is unbelievable! Thank you and have a great week.
NZ does have mineral wool (no idea if it is RockWool brand) but it is comparatively unusual. As it happens Josh Chapman just released a video about why Pink Batts dominate in NZ.
Yes, you can get RockWool insulation here in NZ.
@@tjnicholas Thank you.
Does the insurance company cover all the costs?
Help me understand why you’d want to lower a roof?
Scotty B back at it again!
Great video, love the change in content. Reno looks tidy but correct me if im wrong, but is the bro cutting roof Strip Brace to use for lintel SBS staps ? lol. I had the thought to do so in the past also but they have different KN ratings. Maybe im wrong. love the work regardless. Cheers
It's consented, so no he's definitely not using bracing strap
SCOTT IS BACK. Finally mate, great video
que everyone from your parental home land scream "why aren't New Zealand houses made out of BRICKS?!"
Earthquakes
Can we get a 2024 updated most used Tools video or something
Always love your music selections!
Impact drivers also vibrate alot
Love it, classic Scott Brown!
And the magic is back
Is that a join in the lintel I see at 10.10?
Nice to see you on a building site again Scott :)
What ear defenders do you use?
Oh yeah the vibe is back❤
let us know how the coffee was!
You couldn't pay me enough to live in that house or any one below a hill like that..
I was thinking they will struggle to sell after this. A lot of money going into a house that will only devalue. Very sad I hope their insurance is paying.
This type of video is what made me get into carpentry/remodel. A circ, miter, track saw later, I earn me a couple bucks. Keep them coming. 😊
Back to paid work on mini mansion restoration. Customer was lucky his house didn't get moved completely! All those hold down brackets & straps, is that Earthquake protection or for general storm protection from washing away?
Finally scott doing scott things. Now we need his old friends back. Pearu and some others. Always fun to watch. Ray is a cool guy too!
Yea boy, love the old style content.
Chill and exciting episode Scott! You seem relieved to be working on a house that isn’t yours 😜
Love this old throwback to og SBC content.
back to our roots ;)
Who knew how much I missed on-site Smoko Time?! Definitely reminds me of pre-move SBC!
Had a mate that always told me about Nelsons sunny weather, didn't want to believe me about the rain in winter.
Incidentally New Plymouth is one of the spots that's held the record for most sunshine hours, it just rains even in summer. Hence if you travel up from Wanganui in summer it's all brown, yet NP stays green. Good for the dairy farmers.
Still confuddles my brain that for you February is summer and August is winter 😂
Love the content Scott
How come you are using the hikoki over the Milwaukee I know you have made videos on it in the past but do you think it's decisively better
Awesome to see you back on site dude 🤙
Hope you’re enjoying something refreshing!
Love it
I have one of those espresso makers for my hiking trips, its great 👍🏼 ps I love SBC 😊
OG SBC content! Here for it! Just need Kameron to pop by to show us a new tool in his van…
I've enjoyed your own renovation but it is great to see you on site again. Also Ray finds it distracting because he loves it so much
Good to see you back on the job site Scott very refreshing! Can't wait to see more!
Not to say that I don’t love the current content. But it is awesome to see some footage back out on site 😍 Cheers Scott
