    Two main insights for me - thumb on top of the whip keeps it in the right place and thinking taller rather than faster in preparation for the upward transition. Thanks Alicia, Toby, Bethany and Gee - terrific vicarious lesson.

    This was amazing! Good job Bethany! I really enjoyed watching this video, all the little tips from Alicia for the different bits that come up while riding along are such gems. The shorter walk and then lift before trotting was really great, I actually just tried that with my mare after watching the video and the transitions were waaay better. Thank you so much for that :) Also talking about doing what‘s achievable and leave the other parts for later is such important wisdom and probably cannot be repeated often enough. This is such a beautiful video! I've come back again to see Bethany in her beginning stage & the tips, tuition about contact. What a spectacular opportunity for a young girl without her own horse!!! So commendable to give such a gift! I love your passion for her success Alicia! Giving her that success! This time, biggest pearle is to make the success achievable - don't expect perfection!!! Rhythm & the suppleness of the bend give her connection, & solve the positioning later!! Hi Alecia. 👋 It Takes A Village to Ride Dressage.
    Instruction and examples you give so enlightening. I have been practicing the Halt to walk transitions by leading w my hip bone & intermittent legs. My 5 yr old OTTB at times just doesn't move but he is getting better. I also practice Halt to Trot by lifting my bum out of saddle and just a bop of both ankle bones, he also is slow to move off but is better from walk to trot with that aid.
    How did you get your DMA from the US a invite to intern at your stable?

    Hi there. I have a random question…when riders/horses qualify for Grand Prix, olympics etc, albeit it be dressage, sj, or eventing is it the horse or rider that has qualified. If it’s the rider, can they then choose the horse they ride or does is have to be the one they were on? I hope you understand what I’m asking, lol
    Also, how does dressage scoring actually work? Sometimes I hear 30 is good, but then I hear 70 is also. Confuses me to no end lololol. Thanks for your time. I love your videos, as does my daughter. Xx

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jodie! Great questions! When qualifying for big events it is the combination of horse and rider. Dressage scoring is percentage whereas eventing dressage the scoring is different. So dressge is each movement scored out of 10 then at end points are added and percentage worked out. 70 percent is considered fairly good.

    Hi Alicia, just watching the London International and wondering why horses slobbering white foam is a good thing? I've heard you comment before positively about it and I assume its representative of contact, is that right? And why is so much slobber necessary? It seems kind of weird that dressage is about horses looking so beautiful and effortless and riders looking so well turned out yet the horses look slightly rabid and slobber all over themselves! haha

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Cheryl! When the horses have the white foam it is normally because they are moving the bit in their mouth and it is a by product of that, the reason the horse moving the bit is good is because it means the horse is engaging with the bit and the contact. Some horses produce more than others!

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @TheSculptedVegan
      @TheSculptedVegan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YourRidingSuccess because Alicia has to speak so loudly to be heard in the arena, it causes the mic to be overloaded. I run a big internet company and so a lot of podcasting and recording. Sound is so important. A boom mic overhead would be the best option but failing that, a lapel mic placed further away from her mouth, might soften the sound. It’s just extremely harsh and pitchy to listen to. The audio could also be edited with the video to soften it. Hope this helps!

    you've talked a lot about how to get your horse on the bit in a lot of your videos but what do you do if your horse hides behind the bit no matter what you do and how do you prevent this? Also i don't know if its to late to enter yet but i would love to enter for the virtual lesson!! Also is it better to have a training schedule and train for a certain amount of time for certain days or to just train so many days a week and just stop when you feel you or the horse have had enough and just end on a good note before the stress kicks in? usually i would say the second one but i don't know if that is better than having a schedule because i know horses can benefit from a schedule .

    • @audreybreuls9117
      @audreybreuls9117 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your horse goes behin the bit, just lift his head up. Add leg and just put your inside hand up for a little bit. then start riding from back to front again and push him into the bit with your legs without pulling on your reins. Just accept the contact in your hands. Your create good contact by pushing forward with your legs.

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Shelby, if the horse is hiding behind the bit it is another version of avoiding the contact, use the same system for connecting the horse so rhythm plus suppleness equals connection. Each horse is different with days off or which days to train, best thing is to try some different days and see what is best for the horse and you, generally as a rule doing two days together is beneficial for training x

    Question: I've loved the sit inside the banana guideline. It has helped me so much.
    My coach tells me to have the horse follow my seat. So if I wish the horse to move right I should sit a bit right to lead the horse. BUT if I do a leg yield to right on a diagonal and I sit inside the banana my weight should be on the left side. How can I lead the way to the right with my seat and still sit on the left side to stay inside the banana?

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Johanna! Thanks for the support - we appreciate it! With the banana, you need to think about the horses body position in each movement and then think about what makes common sense to you and helps the horse x

      Hey!! It is very cool opportunity isn't it! You need to be a member of our DMA program (which in itself is amazing - video reviews, specialist help with your riding and extra learning) then you can have this opportunity. We also have a competition for TH-cam subscribers which is when we reach 1 million subs one very lucky person will have the chance to train for a whole year and be paid to do it!!!!!

    Great video so much info to take away - thinking of an upward movement and starting to rise, not forward and fast, bending of the head for straightness as my weak side to the left both me and horse fall inwards so reins etc made so much sense. Can't wait to try these. Unfortunately my mum passed 2 months ago so all training etc has come to a hault. With ur experience Alicia with time off 6/7 weeks where do you start ur training at as I am others would be impacted also during winter with shorter days, lack of light and lack of facilities to accommodate training in winter times. Any tips on what u can do during winter for training scales not to be impacted as it is frustrating not being able to get out

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tanya, we are very sorry to hear about your Mum - sending you love. With time off it is best to just stay with your "mind in it" so keep up to date with videos and keep learning then also keep your body fit with pilates. Then when you ride again you will be ready to go. With the horses time off it is best to start again from scratch if they have more than 3 weeks off completely and when you start again start with walking and build up fitness and suppleness slowly.

    Epic guys, love these videos. Can I ask why Alicia wanted bethany to continue rising when going into the canter x

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Johanna, often when riders do sitting trot the compromise their position in the saddle therefore negatively affecting the horses trot prior to the canter, also if you sit it is harder to know the moment to ask the horse to canter, if you ride up and down you can time the moment to ask with outside leg (coming into the sit phase of rising trot). Great question!
