I did NOT do it last year. But I just did it today and MAN, your mic did not pick up the change/improvement very well. This little trick makes a very significant and noticable improvement! Thanks again for posting.
Wow..I almost spend thousands of Rands (South Africa) on a slip on, this is brilliant, thanks so much, I just wanted a little more beat to my drum so that car drivers can hear me, this is perfect
+SoopaBee don't know why it has taken so long for me to do it, but it's all done now. All that is left is getting out on the road to listen to the change in sound. Hopefully it's not a complete waste of time, but the initial sound test looks promising :-)
No round profile files were hurt during this butchery. It changes the sound because the exhaust pressure pulse hits the inner surface of the inner end cap. Fluid dynamics would say it would cause a detrimental effect on the flow though, not that we buy Wees for performance
@@jkkosm2965 yes it did. I kept trimming it back until I got a tone I really liked. Throatier at low / town speeds but not too loud for long rides at high speeds.
I did this to mine... great at low revs when say filtering, quick blip, but not loud for normal riding. Win/win.. except I buggered it when grinding off the welds!cheap dremil copy.
+JoeJoe Moto beard is all gone now :-( felt soo sad taking it off. I have the mo left but it looks all weird so that will have to go as well, back to the clean shave for me until I take the next lot of holidays lol :-) First ride after the mod will be tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes.
Hi, thanks for watching. As it just so happens I am selling the bike and had a roadworthy done on it today, and you know what???? It passed, without a single thing wrong, all ticks and no work required. I do love it when people that talk out of their ass are proven wrong!!! be sure to stop by again hahahahahhaaha :-)
+MrAusAdventure unless you really look at the bolts, you would never know. That's why I used the dremel and the super fine cutting discs :-) went through a few of them though, don't think they were made to cut through exhaust pipe :-) hahahaha
+azdesertdog hahaha, I didn't think that would come out when he said it, it was so quiet............ that and he spoke through ½ the vid hahahaha little bloody critters ;-)
+Adventures in Real Life One must play the pipes if he has a Scottish heritage lol ;-) I do like the sond it makes now, problem is that I think it may have held off the purchase of a new system lol
+Keith Wong yeah!! so simple, I don't know what took me soo long to do it, guess I was just waiting for the right time :-) The initial sound test looks very promising, can't wait to get it out on the road!!
+Jack Themuss , the little runt is all about super heroes :-) sounds better than I thought it would have :-) but it's just to tie me over until I get a staintune pipe.
Now it sounds like it's farting all the time. Problem is, if you don't like it and can't weld, there's no way back other then paying someone to clean it up and weld a new pipe on again. I went back to stock but am curious about removing the catalytic converter :)
holy shit?? you complain about cutting off and inch of pipe and say it's irreversible if you cant weld and will need to pay someone else to do it or buy a whole new pipe and header....... then you wonder about doing a full cut and fabrication job to remove the cat...... hypocrite
It really doesn't change the volume of the exhaust, just changes the final note (sound) coming out of the exhaust. At HWY speeds the sound is pretty much the same as stock, just a little deeper in the note.
Hey matey. New to the vstrom and keen to do this. Any regrets? How’s she’s sound under load or cruising through the twisties? Cheers mate and thanks for all the vids. C
I no longer have her, sold her about a year ago, the sound under load was really nice, not loud and obnoxious, but a very nice note to it, best part was that just normal riding through the streets it really didn't make that much difference, it was under load and through the twisties with some spirited riding that the tune really came out, not a single regret doing it, and was good enough for me not to have the need to go and get an after market exhaust.
+Idaho Rider it really does sound better at an idle, has more of a deep tune to it, I thought that it was about the same when riding but it is certainly louder than stock. I think it sounds good for such a cheap mod that doesn't involve drilling holes into it :-)
+Tommy Strømland The sound is nice at idle and with a little amount of throttle, at high revs the sound hasn't changed much at all, although I may do something to change that :-) You are right about the cost of aftermarket pipes, but I will be getting some in the future :-)
+Tommy Strømland Staintune are what I will be going for, the sound is great but the best thing is that when the cops pull you over they are totally legal and nothing they can do :-)
+hillbillydualsport the most common thing people do is drill holes into the can somewhere. Have a good peek and the spots that are near the exit and see if you can do something.
not sure, it goes through the whole can I think. Another thing people do is get a really long screwdriver and a hammer and whack holes deep in the exhaust baffle, the sound is pretty similar but I didn't want any holes that could rust out over time.
Naah...I'm good with the quiet stock exhaust for now. I don't like the way it sounds just idling it sounds nasty, I don't mind it being loud when you get into to it but it sounds nasty at idle now at stop lights kind of like a Harley it's annoying to be around it. A little safer on the road though is the benefit.
+Daily Derps I will be sometime in the future, just didn't want to wait for a different sound :-) The good thing about this mod is that it really doesn't change how the pipe works, kinda creates an extra chamber for the sound to echo in........ and harder to spot that an aftermarket pipe :-)
I did NOT do it last year. But I just did it today and MAN, your mic did not pick up the change/improvement very well.

Mic lies, i did this today and can not wipe the smile off my face! PERFECT
Wow..I almost spend thousands of Rands (South Africa) on a slip on, this is brilliant, thanks so much, I just wanted a little more beat to my drum so that car drivers can hear me, this is perfect
The little dude is right! Was genuinely surprised at how much of a difference that made :)
Yeah, is crazy how cutting off just a tiny little bit changes the whole note and volume of it.
I think my neighbours like me better with the stock. Thank you.
Everybody on these videos that modify the exhaust they always seem to be afraid to rev the bike up it would nice to hear the difference
Definitely an improvement! I'd be doing the exact same thing. Good demonstration man.
+SoopaBee don't know why it has taken so long for me to do it, but it's all done now. All that is left is getting out on the road to listen to the change in sound. Hopefully it's not a complete waste of time, but the initial sound test looks promising :-)
I did this to my bike and would never go back. I love the sound it makes.
Sounds soooooo much better standard😎
No round profile files were hurt during this butchery.
It changes the sound because the exhaust pressure pulse hits the inner surface of the inner end cap.
Fluid dynamics would say it would cause a detrimental effect on the flow though, not that we buy Wees for performance
Amazing how cutting a few inches off can make such a difference in sound
I just did this to my '11 650, aswell as drilling 4 holes around the centre hole. It sounds heaps better! Thanks
Just got a 2009 vstrom today.... I'll be doing this over the weekend!
Did it work ?!
@@jkkosm2965 yes it did. I kept trimming it back until I got a tone I really liked. Throatier at low / town speeds but not too loud for long rides at high speeds.

Got a sneak peek at the holiday beard there!! It sounds so much better hey. Made a big difference to mine too.
Good Man, Now the engine sounds like your big end bearings are toast. You better weld that piece back on if your planning on selling anytime soon.

La mejor manera de dañar el escape
That was pretty cool and well done. It sounds a little angrier!!
Good thing is it sounds like that mainly at low revs or idle. Seems it didn't do much at higher revs which is great. No crazy loud obnoxious pipe.
Andy Pandy Motovlogs Know what you mean :)
That makes a huge difference for just a simple procedure. I like it!
Does the end cap look a bit ugly now though where you cut the welds?
+MrAusAdventure unless you really look at the bolts, you would never know. That's why I used the dremel and the super fine cutting discs :-) went through a few of them though, don't think they were made to cut through exhaust pipe :-) hahahaha
Good sound easy fix.
Good video.
Cool! Loved the commentary from the peanut gallery! Hah!
+azdesertdog hahaha, I didn't think that would come out when he said it, it was so quiet............ that and he spoke through ½ the vid hahahaha little bloody critters ;-)
Makes it much more manly, man!
Would this change the fuel consumption?? Great modification!
There it is, Andy Pandy, the exhaust pipe musician.
+Adventures in Real Life One must play the pipes if he has a Scottish heritage lol ;-) I do like the sond it makes now, problem is that I think it may have held off the purchase of a new system lol
Well I'm sure the wife wouldn't be all too happy about the 400 dollar expenditure on a new system anyhow.
Wow .. great Tip 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Simple modification but awesome difference it made ^.^
+Keith Wong yeah!! so simple, I don't know what took me soo long to do it, guess I was just waiting for the right time :-) The initial sound test looks very promising, can't wait to get it out on the road!!
Looking forward to it 😊
Do this provide any performance improvement?
wth that awesome mate, sounds sick.... looking in the background my son has the same spiderman bike lol
+Jack Themuss , the little runt is all about super heroes :-) sounds better than I thought it would have :-) but it's just to tie me over until I get a staintune pipe.
Nice vid mate did think that would have much difference but wow!!!
+Pomdownunder I was a bit surprised as well, I didn't think it would do bugger all, but .......... worked out well ;-)
Maybe just the recording, but the stock exhaust sounded better to me.
Now it sounds like it's farting all the time. Problem is, if you don't like it and can't weld, there's no way back other then paying someone to clean it up and weld a new pipe on again. I went back to stock but am curious about removing the catalytic converter :)

Awesome. I have a spare system I may have to do that to and swap it out.
+MrCods. I get to find out tomorrow if it is worth it or not ;-) 1st day back at work so I get to ride again, I will let you know how it goes
Sounds better , but what is the sound during the ride ? Isn't it too loud ?
It really doesn't change the volume of the exhaust, just changes the final note (sound) coming out of the exhaust. At HWY speeds the sound is pretty much the same as stock, just a little deeper in the note.
Great mod, thanks!

Thanks for the really matey!!
Sounds like a worthwhile cost effective no brainer.
Cheers heaps!!!
What about the screws you removed before surgery? How does it look afterwards?
Sounds good
yeah, it isn't bad for a cheap and dodgy fix :-)
what side racks are those for the panniers?
Like it. Sounds better.
+Idaho Rider it really does sound better at an idle, has more of a deep tune to it, I thought that it was about the same when riding but it is certainly louder than stock. I think it sounds good for such a cheap mod that doesn't involve drilling holes into it :-)
still a good sound?? may do this to mine..a new slipon are way ro expensive...did you paint tat heat shield yourself
?

+Tommy Strømland Staintune are what I will be going for, the sound is great but the best thing is that when the cops pull you over they are totally legal and nothing they can do :-)

hey Andy, where do you buy the protector for saddlebag over your muffler......
That came standard with the bike, you would be able to get one from a OEM parts website, but not sure if they would stock many of them??
Nice job Buddy. I need to do something with my CB500X its way too Quiet.
+hillbillydualsport the most common thing people do is drill holes into the can somewhere. Have a good peek and the spots that are near the exit and see if you can do something.
My friend, is it worthy to do it? Does it work?
Thanks
Классная идея!!!
great..n awesome
Cheers mate :-)
nice tyre. witch type, mark ?
Heidenau K60 Scouts for the front and back.
i bought a bike that keeps popping, its took me 3 months to realise what the previous owner did. school boy trick.
Why do they weld the screws?
To stop the IQ challenged from needlessly 'doing performance enhancements" to their exhaust
Great
Are you seriously? Modification? Hahaha its sound like a farts
Can you drill out the baffel
not sure, it goes through the whole can I think. Another thing people do is get a really long screwdriver and a hammer and whack holes deep in the exhaust baffle, the sound is pretty similar but I didn't want any holes that could rust out over time.
I hear a chopper! Get to the chopper!
+SeeItWithSimon hahahaha I went for a ride with it today to and from work and I am really happy with it :-)
Nice video man. Please wear protection gloves next time, even so more, since you have your little kid around. Show him how to do things properly.
Naah...I'm good with the quiet stock exhaust for now. Why?
clearly because.

Horrible
Why not just get an aftermarket exhaust?
I don't like to damage the stock pipe incase the epa come knocking
+Daily Derps I will be sometime in the future, just didn't want to wait for a different sound :-) The good thing about this mod is that it really doesn't change how the pipe works, kinda creates an extra chamber for the sound to echo in........ and harder to spot that an aftermarket pipe :-)
Andy Pandy Motovlogs
If you didn't want to wait; just remove the muffler altogether :P #StraightPipes
hahahaha
When is the EPA going to get around to checking everyone's exhaust and tuning? 😄
Sounds waaaay worse
Dominator to to nie jest
cool
