Long ago, in the city of Nazareth lived a young woman
named Mary soon to marry a carpenter called Joseph
then God sent to her the angel Gabriel with a message
“Fear not, the Lord is with you. Soon you’ll have a baby
named Jesus, who will be called the Son of God”
Mary and Joseph got married and soon after the Emperor
Caeser Augustus ordered all the people to return to their
family’s birthplace to be taxed
When they arrived in Bethlehem there was no place
for them to stay
At last Joseph found room for them in a stable,
made a bed of straw for Mary and then Jesus was born
Mary wrapped baby Jesus in swaddling clothes
and laid him in a manger filled with fresh, sweet hay
In the fields nearby, shepherds gathered around their fire
and suddenly the sky filled with a bright light and the
angel of the Lord appeared
“Do not be afraid,” said the angel, “I bring you news of
great joy to all people. Christ the Lord is born. You will
find him wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger”
Then more angels appeared saying, “Glory to God in the
highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men”.
And the shepherds left for Bethlehem at once
Far away in the East three wise men saw a strange star
shining in the sky and they knew it meant a new king
was born so they set out to find him
On their journey the star led them onwards until it hung
in the sky over the stable where Jesus lay
When the three wise men found the stable they knelt
before the baby and worshiped him and gave him gifts of
precious gold and sweet-smelling frankincense and myrrh
Jesus is the Son of God and the Saviour of all mankind
and all those who heard it marveled at those things
Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising
God for all the things that they had heard and seen,
as it was told them
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life!
