Twilight's last gleaming... Thank you so much for all your hard work in bringing back such deeply cherished memories of this glimpse into my Americana back to me. I'm 63 now, and the precious time my mom took us kids through Vegas when I was only 10 came rushing back to mind. Yeah, it was 'Sin City,' but to a young buck like me, I didn't know anything about any of that. I was a squeaky-clean Air Force brat, always traveling, never staying in one place for long. Johnny C. was always on the radio, but I never got into it until much later. His voice was like the metronome of melancholy, and I just couldn't slow down to really listen. Now, however, his timber has morphed into a heartbeat, rhythmically, slowly, burning my aging soul as I face my own sunset.
This timeless song crushes my heart now, as I look back to both my own childhood as well as my own shattered marriage, which left our own two young boys in that pit of hell called divorce. Unlike the lyrics in this song, I later learned that it was Dad who was the transgressor. By the time he was finally laid to rest decades later, he had notched three wives and five broken-hearted children onto his belt. When this film was made, divorce in America had become easy, and adultery was just accepted as a part of life in those days. Both are still looked at as 'no big thing; everyone's doing it' today. I am a child of divorce, and then in my inexplicable naivete, find myself a hypocrite by having one myself. Over decades I have learned to completely hate the institution of divorce, but the wickedness of adultery even more so. The two are such black-hearted sins: they just keep taking and taking over everyone's lifetime, shredding and cutting out slices of what were once hopes and dreams that were supposed to bind families together in love and adoration. The insipid poison becomes generational, as heartless faithlessness and passive-aggressive emotions are passed down as acceptable behaviors for our kids to copy and mollify.
It was in early August 1969 when we spent the night on the Strip at a cheap hotel\casino, and I had a huge pancake breakfast for 25 cents. Dad would often listen to Sinatra, so Mom never would. He was gone now though, and we were heading west, to visit her sister and their family. I didn't know it at the time, but my uncle was a rich gynecologist in Orange County, and my aunt was embroiled in her own divorce proceedings on account of his many adulterous affairs.
It is only in retrospect that we are sometimes able to see and hear the patterns from which our young psyches help form our adult worldviews. Tonight, I too literally drove past the house I once shared and enjoyed as a family with my then-wife and first child.
Your poignant work here faithfully brings back to life The Man in Black's perfectly resonant voice, and it has has likewise brought back a personal wellspring flood of deeply disturbing but necessary and revealing recollections. Thanks again SO MUCH for all your diligent efforts on bringing this era back to life, if only for a few brief minutes.
    Encore!

I'm old enough, 62, to remember old Las Vegas. To watch and to listen together.
    Amazing . 👏

I think its fairly similar but I do assume he is using some voice enhancers to get that deep full sound. As a bass lover its absolutely beautiful but doubt him singing live would be similar sounding.
