Whenever Chris’s videos drop I always watch even if I’m not interested in buying the product because I know it’s entertaining and I’ll probably learn something.
Chris, thanks for the review. A great video as always! I can tell how much efforts you put in each of your videos. There are so many other TH-camrs who would rather spend more time rambling in front of the camera than editing their content. Talking about value per minute, your videos are among the highest.
Nice to know! By the way I feel so happy to have come across your channel. I got my fujifilm X-S20 a few months ago, and your channel is a gold mine. Your enthusiasm is so vital that it gives me enthusiasm in general 🎉
At 8:58 - shout out to the Tintin collection! My originals from childhood are equally beat up! I eventually bought the hardback compendium sets. Thanks for all the great Fuji content!
@@pal2tech I took some pictures with my new lens yesterday and Im so amazed by its performance! It reminds me of the old great time I had with my D90+50/1.4D but everything got improved so much! Super light weight, fast and good performance in the afternoon & night. If there is anything I have to complain, I wish it could come with WR feature. (Somehow Viltrox doesn’t seem to have many WR lens (?)) But overall Im pretty satisfied with my affordable, light weight but mighty lens:)
This lens is now on firmware version 1.02 to improve AF at close focus distances, I bought on because it's not a focal length I use often, but value for money and IQ it's a no brainier for my use.
Muito bom! Tenho assistido alguns de seus vídeos e são muito bons! Gostaria de ver imagens durante o dia com essa lente, como ela renderiza cores na luz do sol.
Excellent review as always Chris. Your automotive themed interior shots look very familiar to me. For those who haven't yet visited, The Henry Ford Museum offers lots of great subjects to capture, including much more than just automobiles. The museum also provides many opportunities for learning, just like your videos. Thank you for all you do for the Fuji Community.
Does it suck? No it blows gale force. Your whirlwind lens reviews are a joy, so much information but it sticks. You are a great communicator, thank you 🙏
This was my first prime lens after using the 18-55mm kit lens for 6 months with my X-S10. It's a wonderful lens for portraits, very sharp and great for low light photos and videos. And it's cheap enough so it'sa low-risk purchase I'm still using kit lens much more, but that's because it's more versatile.
I got this lens a short while ago, and I have found pretty much everything you say. I left it on my camera for a week, which occasionally bit my butt because I was way too "zoomed in" for some of my street efforts. But when the subject is at the right distance for this lens, I saw pretty much the same performance you said. Like someone else said, I watched the WHOLE video, even though I already own this lens. (That's how good you are.)
What would recommend for my first Fuji prime lens that will be used for portrait and street photography? Im thinking Viltrox provides the best bang for buck and I was looking at the 2 "Pro" lenses
Great review, thanks Chris ! The lack of aperture ring is a real deal breaker for me, these manual controls are why I chose Fuji in the first place. I guess I should look for a good deal on the 1.4 version of the lens, although this doesn't seem to be stabilised either, so maybe not a very good choice for my X-T30 II. By the way, I loved your "rolling barrel" shot of the lens, super cool ! And also made my Belgian heart happy with the Tintin albums ! :D
What a coincidence, I just got my hands on the lens two days ago and started to look on your channel for a review. And now all of a sudden it just popped up today. Thanks, not all heroes wear capes! Anyway, curious to try out the lens in the upcoming days. A bit disappointed by the plasticy cheap feel but lets see how the results turn out! :)
Hey what would be great is a review of the xt5 4.0 firmware update! You’ve done a very superficial one when it came out. Now would be good for a real in-depth one. Love your videos 🙏
So I recently got my hands on one of the red special edition 56mm 1.4. It's a bit better than the black og 56mm in sharpness and ca. What really surprised me was that the aperture ring had gentle clicks.
Having cheaper options is always a good thing, no one is forced to buy them, but you don't always need the best lenses either. Even professionals sometimes want a lens that covers something they don't normally shoot but don't want to spend $$$$ on the best of the best. I had hoped that when fuji released the XC 35 F/2 it was the start of a budget series, but then there were no other lenses; However, then Sigma joined the game officially, and various Chinese 3rd party manufacturers have made X Mount autofocus lenses without official licence (as far as I know). Which has helped fuji and fuji users by giving lower cost options.
I keep going back and forth on which one to get - Viltrox is definitely popular, but something about TTArtisan’s 56mm slightly more classic rendering has me curious. For those of you who do a lot of portrait work, have you found TTArtisan adds any kind of extra depth to backgrounds? Trying to figure out if it’s worth the switch.
How well does this lens create background blur (bokeh)? Additionally, could you provide insights on its low-light performance? I'm also interested in understanding how the autofocus performs specifically for capturing moving subjects in photography, not videography.
Although the AF may be clunky and slow I still like this lens for walk about and street photography because it is so nice and light and compact. Only my old manual lenses are smaller but they are noticeably less sharp. Would love to see Viltrox come out with a modern set of smaller/slower/cheaper lenses that are full manual. 56/35/24/16 around f2 for $800 with a case, sign me up!
Hang in there, Chris! Great, informative video, as ALWAYS! We all live on spam filters and hopefully we'll get SNARKY A.I. Filters, soon? Something that A.I. could do to automatically eliminate the SNARKY comments! We'll all be happier, then👍
I keep going back and forth between Viltrox’s 56mm and the TTArtisan. Viltrox seems reliable with good autofocus, but I’m drawn to the idea of TTArtisan’s unique look, especially since I shoot a lot of portraits. People say the TTArtisan is a little bit sharper for portraits, which sounds fun. Curious if anyone here has found it makes a difference in practice?
At least you can buy a Meiki extension "tube" that transmits all electronic data to get closer shots. Or, pick up a Fuji 16-50 f3.5 V II with OIS. It has macro too. Weighs nothing and focusses very fast.
Thank you! I always appreciate your reviews. However, I do not understand the IBIS test part at all. It has absolutely nothing to do with the lens, and may more likely confuse inexperienced users.
Hello Sir, zv e10 here $580 body And a6600 $695 body Fuji film x-t3 $780 body Which would be better overall ?. I need good for 5-6 year long term , learning beginner cinematography. I am tight on budget so the 23mm f1.4 viltrox and 30mm f1.4 sigma would be good for starting ? Prefer to capture in night
Can anyone explain why I sometimes have control Of the exposure compensation when in Auto ISO and sometimes I do not. It’s as if the camera sometimes considers it Auto and other times not. I can adjust it and the. 2 min later it doesn’t work. I can obv change my shutter speed to auto and have it work all the time, but hoping to keep that control, use Auto ISO and use my comp to tweak. Using an xt30ii.
Given that we have the Viltrox 56mm f/1.4 already, I do wonder what the point of this lens is. But it's cheap, and it's sharp. So I guess that answers the question. ;-)
Whoa whoa whoa, those autofocus tests are your camera - not the lens. Im using this on a sony and it's super fast and dead on; not doing that little stepping youre seeing.
The tape measure part make me laugh😂 Viltrox is bad at this point, but they do have a thick skin to speak out loud. Yes I'm a Chinese , hope they will improve in this aspect
I'm so glad you're back to making Fuji-gear-related videos, great review as always
Whenever Chris’s videos drop I always watch even if I’m not interested in buying the product because I know it’s entertaining and I’ll probably learn something.
Your videos never sucks..... it's always informative 👌
I honestly respect Viltrox a lot because they're really putting together one hell of an affordable lineup for Fujifilm
Great review! Not in the market for this lens but I still watched all the way through. 😂 Thanks for a great video!
Thank you so much!!! 🙏
Always enjoy your videos, Chris. 👍👏

Great review and very helpful. I was wondering about this this lens and you just gave me very helpful insights!!!
Great video again Chris! I’d love to see a comparison with the Meike 55mm f1.4 competitor to this. Has an aperture ring too!
Great review, clear & to the point. Thanks Chris.
Glad to see reviews. Great one as usual. Fair and non biased. Wasn't looking for a lens but this might just join my tool kit.
Muito bom! Tenho assistido alguns de seus vídeos e são muito bons! Gostaria de ver imagens durante o dia com essa lente, como ela renderiza cores na luz do sol.
👍👍As always, a comprehensive and objective review
Yay a new video!
Always the BEST content. Thank you, Chris!
GReat video again!! I've been waiting for this comparison for a long time to see if it would be worth the exchange, thanks for the help!

Good video and I appreciate your honest review. It's good to know there are quality third party lenses at reasonable cost.

That’s nuts. I’m in the market for a compact budget wide-ish angle fast lens, crossing my fingers that this is something Viltrox tackles next
Love love love your reviews, Chris!
Love this lens. Got the sigma but ended up returning for this one
Great Video! Thank you!
Love the review, Chris! Was this with the new firmware, released the other day?
Love watching what ever you make
Thanks for the review, Chris.

It is so cool that 3rd party manufacturers like Viltrox are making X mount lenses. My favorite mid range prime is the Viltrox 85mm
Great review as always Txs

Ya gotta blame Fuji for that. on sony cameras the focus is just fine
i got the 75mm f1.2 its great to
Great review. I already have their 27mm pro. If they come out with a 23mm version of this I'm SOLD!
Likewise 100%
PLEASE REVIEW THE ASTHORI 10mm F8 in FUJIFILM CAMERA
So this lens will produce higher quality shoots compared to the zoom lense that came with my tx5 right
Interesting, I have the 1.4 and think its great

Definitely a good value although I think the Sigma 56mm 1.4 packs a better punch but at double the price.
your videos don't suck :)
You may have covered this previously, but why are the higher F stops, softer and softer?
@richardeggers its just normal for every lens due to refraction.
Super content!
Hello again! 🙂
Ahh, a fellow Tintin fan I see.
Given that we have the Viltrox 56mm f/1.4 already, I do wonder what the point of this lens is. But it's cheap, and it's sharp. So I guess that answers the question. ;-)
I thought about this question, too. I think the analogy is the difference between the Fujinon XC and XF lens lines. Thoughts?
@@nvrumi That sounds like a sensible way to think about it.
I bought this lens in June at 120€. For this price is a bargain!
