Very cool and humble of you to share this crash review. Like you say, it may help other riders. I think a combination of being tired like you said and not highly experienced in the canyons yet. With more dedicated time both looking through the corner, trusting your tires, knowing your brakes at harder applications, and learning the roads better you will be there. None of us are ever "fully there" done learning. Glad you are with us on two wheels! Everyone in this sport benefits when more new riders to sign on (in my opinion). -cheers

Thank s God you are ok. The main issues in my opinion:
1)totally wrong line in the beginning of the curve . You were completely at left, close to yellow line instead you should have been on the opposite side (right). This pushed you to the external side in the outcome
    2) you started too early the leaning. This error, combined with the n. 1, makes you not aware about the curve you were going to manage
    3) target fixing: when you saw the guardrail you pointed it with your eyes (human instinctive reaction, but letal if you are a biker). You must learn to go over your instict and force you to fix the exit way and not the obstacle.
    Have safe rides.

probably too little lean angle might have had an effect too looks like hes not leaning at all on the 360 cam body position aswell you gotta lean your ass into the corner to lean more dont just sit straight on the bike too also looks like you dosent really know the road since if you did you probably would have known that the corner is very sharp

    1. Trail brake, can decelerate and avoid crash.
    2. Lower gears higher revs, use the throttle to control speed through corners, eg 3-4k rev gear 1 through the turn, the engine spin will keep the motorcycle upright.
    3. Motorcycle upright as mush as possible, use your body lock the knee into the tank and sliders, leverage your body off to the side of motorcycle to turn tighter.

For your own safety and skill development, recommend you enrolling in a track based training course. It also appears you tend to target fixate and you need to learn how not to do this, especially if you want to survive riding a motorcycle in the longer term!

Thank you for posting this as it’s a great way o help educate others. You’ve only been riding for a year so haven’t yet developed the skills to prevent this by understanding your limits in riding abilities and those of how your mind and body interact when tied. For the record we all have a crash eventually. For me, I’ve lost count however it’s been a very long time since the last. I’ve been riding (including 10 years of racing in the Australian Superbike series) for over 40 years. You had an oops moment, then passed a group parked, then you were fixated on the guard rail which resulted in you hitting it. After only a years worth of street riding this happened to me more than once and always towards the end of a long day. Getting track time will not only make you a better rider as you can learn your limits and improve these and result in becoming a much safer rider in the process. If you can also find a mentor to ride behind who will guide you at your pace then this will be even better as my mentor who improved my street riding also got me into racing. Phillip Island was my home track. Best of luck going forward and remember your ok, bikes can be fixed. 👍😎🇦🇺

Mate I’m really sorry you crashed and are learning the hard way. You need more confidence and get the bike turned. As MotoSupreme said, watch Keith Codes Twist Of The Wrist. Also TH-camr MotoJitsu has many videos which can help you out. Maybe even do a rider training school. But get your riding improved before you go and do a track day. It will be safer for you and you will enjoy it a whole lot. Take care mate.

Gutted for you dropping the bike. Ive been there. You are doing the right thing to learn from it. Main thing and whats utmost important is that YOU are OK. I've only been riding a couple of years so I'm no expert but I think your engine sounded like it was in too high a gear when you were taking the corner and this was pushing the bike harder into the corner than you would have expected. I'm in Ireland 🇮🇪 so won't see you out in the canyons anytime soon. Take care

Looks like no use of counter steering. I see his body keeps leaning as he tries to turn but the bike doesn’t dip left. I think this is because to counter steer you must turn right first to start the lean, which instinctively would send you into the guardrail. But this starts your line for a great turn.

First off, I love the sound of your bike. Very nice. I have to agree with everything that @bronson Ku said. I think the only other thing I would add is how important your vision is and to look ahead where you want to go. I think you would have been ok if you had not turned your head and it pulled you back to the guard rail. It takes time to trust your peripheral vision, but once you do, it really changes your riding. Let's hope Dan Dan the fire prick doesn't get ahold of this and give you his "assessment". Have a good time at the track day coming up. Can't wait to see some footage from that as well.

Hard to tell with the 360 camera, but it looks like it could have been a decreasing radius turn. Those can actually have two apexes.
    Other than that target fixation.
Happens to us all. I was tired on my bike two days ago and almost made a silly mistake.

Damn bro! Glad you're ok. I watched this footage so many times. I've been riding for a long time but I'm not an expert in canyon riding so I can't say for certain what went wrong. Only part that seems to stand out was hitting the apex too soon, kind of threw your angle off as you started to go around that last turn. Maybe target fixated? I couldn't tell if you started to brake towards the end, which made the bike stand up and proceeded into the guard rail. Hopefully someone with a little more experience can chime in. I am probably late to the party, but your mistake is obvious. In blind turns you want to stay outside until you see the exit. You however, start turning as soon as you see the corner. And turning in too soon will set you up for running wide. It's a mistake we all make sooner or later

Glad you are ok. Hammer your eyes to the exit from the curve, if you aren´t trail braking keep the throttle steady at least (don´t chop it or slam on the brakes while leaned over, do it only if you have the space to straighten the bike up) and lean more. Ass puckering comes automatically. ;) I had 2 really close calls, once saved it as described just now, and once I straightened it up and slammed on the brakes (it was a slow hairpin and I had enough run off). In both cases it was in curves which I knew well, but for some reason (probably also too tired), got scarred that I am coming in too hot (I wasn´t, normally I can go through them 15-20 km/h faster). But my biggest tip is watch motojitsu´s videos on trail braking and twisties riding. Practice those techniques and a whole new world will open up for you. Also, on the street, keep it to spirited but easy flowing in the curves, aggresive riding is for the track.

"We all just need to slow down in those Canyons." There are no truer words to be spoken. We share those roads with Cars, cyclists, other motorcycles of all types, rocks and gravel, and animals. Azusa has black bears, deer, foxes, mountain lions.. on and on.. yet riders use the excuse that they ride the Canyons like a track because they can't afford track days. I wish everyone had your good sense. Now. Are you doing Chuckwalla? I'm not riding but will be going to watch a friend ride. Cheers

Wow! your Aprillia with SC Project has a treat sound. And you’re smart to have some great gear, I hope you realize how different this coulda been with injuries from inadequate gear. Nice life hack, getting your left leg out from under the low side.
Maybe you nailed it in your remarks? Is just me, or do lots of these types of experiences always seem to begin with
    “…It’s late and I’m tired.” ?
There’s already lots of good input on riding technique from the other comments.
I was just wondering about the weather temperature, cold tires on a cold surface? I realize you were on a down slope in a tight switchback. Those tend to catch all sorts of slippery sand and gravel. What is that road glaze starting into the turn?
You crossed the double yellow just before, that road paint always feels unnerving and less positive no matter what tires I’m running.
It looks like it was almost a low speed tight U turn with a bit of a grade change and then you might of been surprised by the guard rail and target fixation?
Maybe practice U turns with a full lock on the bars and that exaggerated head turn?
Or borrow a friend’s light dirt or trail bike and try those tight turns off road on various surfaces while in almost a standing position and weighting the pegs.
    Glad you’re not hurt friend,
    keep ‘em coming…

ALWAYS ride like the Double Yellow is a WALL that you can't hit- Traffic or no traffic, train yourself to never hit the centerline, let alone GO OVER... Use the torque of the engine to control deceleration and be SMOOTHER on your throttle - avoid jumpy and "blippy" throttle response and concentrate on being smooth.... Glad you are all good- My initial reaction is to get a different bike to learn your skills on, like a DZ400 SuperMoto or a less aggressive road bike. BTW, you might want to sign up for a class a SoCal Supermoto in Riverside.... BEST $250.00 you will ever spend- Their bikes, tires and brakes and great instruction!

i think you're gonna get a lot of comments with overly technical explanations of what you did wrong here, but to my eyes you were simply riding tired, very tired and on a bike you're still not comfortable with. From the video it appears you had time to come to a complete stop, but didn't. That you could have turned more aggressively and avoided the wall, but didn't and based on your engine sound you were probably in the wrong gear for your corner speed.
Don't over think it with things like trail braking etc, you might simply not be there yet with this bike. Shake this one off, get back on the horse and commit fully to riding when you ride.

Corner should always be outside - inside - outside, so your line is not very good. You lean in way too early, what I can tell from the rest of the video. That's why you often end up on the middle of the road.

Whole ride you’re all over the lane, like you’re on your phone or something. You need more time on a bike before going in the canyons alone. Not saying it to be mean, just saying anyone who rides like that shouldn’t be in the canyons.

Just got this in my TH-cam recos, I haven't watched your channel before, so my opinion in unbiased. This looked like a combo of fatigue and inexperience. You didn't make the turn because... you weren't turning your bike. You had almost no lean angle, you could have made that turn very easily. You said you were coming in too fast, but no, not at all. You *thought* you were going too fast and it seems like you panicked and tried to slow down, therefore standing up the bike, and possibly target fixating on the outside of the curve. These are all classic mistakes that we need to train our brains out of. Number one, look where you want to go, and commit to that, I mean really turn your head and stick your eyes to the inside of that turn no matter what, and do what you need to go *there*. Number two, you think the bike can't make it, but it can, you had miles of lean angle left. Number three, practice practice practice, pushing yourself progressively. Number four, don't ride when mentally or physically tired. Number five, do not put your weight on your arms, you can't steer your bike properly if you're doing that. Push left to lean left, push right to lean right.
Please take this advice the right way. I've been there myself as a rider for 20 years. Crashed several times, more as a novice and less as I got more experienced, which I guess is a good sign lol. And fatigue was the cause of two of them. Luckily survived all my blunders, although with some scars. Wish you many years of happy, fun, safe riding. Peace :)

This is great advice. Thank you. I went to the track yesterday in the same bike. And worked on exactly what you said. Tons of improvement. Look out for the video. I’ll post it in a couple days. Ride safe. God bless

You could have counter-steered more and been easier with the throttle mid-corner, especially when you realized it was getting/staying tighter.

Bro, you drive too slow that is why you crashed, you are not leaning properly aNd the bike lost balance.
