That way, the Empress Dowager guarantees the Harem's prestige and that of her own, as head of the family matters, and the Emperor's as well, her son. It's also a power play. If the Empress or one of consorts or concubines becomes too arrogant and domineering, it may mess with the Empress Dowager's power and influence over the Emperor as well. Zhenhuan wants the Harem in check and these women in their places, so no one may dare clash with her. Empress Xiaoxian did this mistake regarding Princess Jingse's marriage to Khorchin. Wei Yanwan did such mistakes by making the harem chaotic with her scheming and even trying to mess with the succession. Zhenhuan won't allow anyone to trample on her.

I understand scarring is considered very bad for them but I thought stretch marks were very common for pregnant women so I just can't imagine it was such a big deal for a women in the emperors harem who bears a child for him to be untouchable after?
