Excellent game with pretty evenly matched teams. If they played 10 times, they probably split 5-5. Carolina just got the money jumper to win it.
How do u have this game in the elite 8, should have been a final 4 game. You won't see a better game rest of the tourney.

Both teams looked like garbage for HUGE portions of this game. Highlights will, of course, never reflect that.
I don't buy both teams looked like garbage. When two evenly matched teams play each other, the so called beautiful basketball will not happen. You have the typical sizing each other up, a little bit of anticipation. And both teams trying to out play each other. In the 2nd. half however, both teams played spectacular basketball as both teams consistently went on spurts. Again, UNC & UK are two virtually evenly matched basketball programs.
This reminds me of last years championship so much

Man those shots by Monk were just ridiculous at the end. May had some big shots through out, and Jackson just has a great feel for the game... Really fun game to watch, maybe the best one yet.....
I was there at the game surrounded by a sea of kentucky blue. When Luke Maye hit that shot I was 1 of about 10 people in my section that went crazy. Luke Maye's shot still gets me pumped to this day
I wish they'd show the Monk shot and the quick inbounds from UNC in real time. That was the beauty of the shot, the UNC players knowing exactly what to do because that's how they practice it. UK was scrambling and the quick hit ahead paid off in Mayes dramatic shot

Gale Hess hes got talent for sure and hes progressed over the course of the season into a kevin love kind of guy. He had his first career double double last game and was definitely the x factor this game.

Playing small-ball rotations also makes the opponent's zone stronger, without a true SF role to work around the foul line. Williams was right to zone, but Cal should have put Willis or Gabriel at the 3 slot and ran traditional hi-lo plays to off-set the zone. Darius Miller was the best zone buster I ever saw at kentucky. He'd flash hi post on the foul line and turn and read and re-act. Plus, he was a 6'9" SF with range and great fundamentals on the defensive end.
Willis should have been green lit to have more isolated plays set for him to score. He was a mismatch problem for Carolina. Regardless, it was an outstanding game between two heavyweight programs. I only wished these two teams had an opportunity to play in the Final Four instead of the Elite 8. I still scratch my head on why UK was a 2nd. seed in this tournament.

Duke definitely should not have been a two seed. They got hot late and was gift wrapped a 2 seed. Honestly, UNC was gift wrapped a top seed. But I do agree that UNC was the best team out of an extremely overrated ACC Conference this year.

The ending of the game is ruined on this video by editing in a slo mo replay after Monk's three. That didn't happen in the original broadcast. UNC immediately ran the ball back down the floor for the winning score. And I'm a UK fan saying this.

He said that he was trying to but UNC inbounded it too quickly.
perfectlemonade is correct....Roy William's offensive philosophy is to have his players immediately push the ball back up the court as soon as the opposition scores a field goal, and for them to respond back by scoring quickly. Many teams use the same strategy. The only difference is that Roy William's coaching style and players are slightly more talented than most teams. Coach Calipari often uses the same philosophy too with the talent he often has with many of his heavily talented UK players. Basically UK and UNC were two very evenly matched teams. It was an outstanding game. I'm a UNC fan through and through, but I think UK should have been a top seed in this tournament and were a bit hosed. Regardless, I'm glad UNC won.
Almost 2 seconds after the 3point shot to make the score tied. The coach should be in focus and attention to call a timeout. But he don't pay attention instead he joins celebrating and shouting. What the coach was that? His players try hard as much as they can but this coach don't do his job.

You call time out it lets them set up a play as well and then you have to worry about scoring again.. GOOD call by coach cal, he put trust that they would tightly mark but Briscoe lost his man, it happens but better chance than letting them go and trying to score again
+Jun Igan Even in those almost 2 seconds, a ref has to hear the coach calling timeout. With the crowd noise and the quick inbounding, the refs likely didn't hear him. He was trying to call timeout. Did you watch the game? Clearly not.

Why was Gabriel put on ice nearly the whole second half? He's one of UK's best defenders. Once again, small-ball leaves us out of the final four. I love our guards, but only 2 should be on the court, at a time. Gabe could have guarded the wing players effectively & the kid from New Zealand that never plays could have played a lot more this year in the paint and around the elbow & base-line.

I am a 55 year old UK fan and I'm not remembering all the times we ripped your hearts out. Unless you think losing a regular season game equals getting your heart ripped out, and even that didn't happen very often.

Kentucky inbounded the ball by throwing it full court. However, it went out of bounds without anyone touching it. So Carolina got the ball back with no time taken off the clock.

Preston Waller like foul numbers matter it's the amount of free throw you get and the fact that there were and-1's that were ridiculous. UNC shots 26 free throws to Kentuckys 19. One example from the game. Maye pump faked and got Willis in the air for a foul before Maye took the shot and they counted an and-1. They also missed the foul on Monks game-tying three and Maye travelled on the last shot.
Preston, they forgot Dook get away with more things from the refs overlooking it compare to 'Heels. Dook got away with many things for years. I wonder if Rakee forgot that 'Heels got 9 straight fouls in the loss against Villanova last year. Where were you on that one, Rakee? Yeah, you ignore it. :P

Rakee Designs Monk didn't get touched on that play. I've watched it over and over because if all the crying UK fans. The body movement by Monk was an attempt to get a call from the officials. Glad they didn't call it, because it wasn't remotely close to being a foul.
