THIS SERIES NEEDS TO END ALREADY. YOU ARE COMPLICIT IN THE HARASSMENT OF CHRIS. Letting this series run for over 79 episodes is absurd and completely unnecessary. Maybe this series does help deter SOME people from harassing cwc because it shows how horrible the trolls have been, but I think it causes a larger amount of people to become morbidly obsessed with her and go down the pipeline to become a troll that harasses her. Anyone that gets involved in the toxic and disgusting community of people who view cwc as entertainment has the potential to become a troll. I guarantee this series has much more of a negative impact than a positive impact and Geno should be called out on that more often.
@@bluepenguin6559 you do realize you're just enabling HIS behavior right. he's not actually trans - he's legitimately insane. also, stop defending a RAPIST please.
It sucks, but honestly, it's kinda whatever. I'd possibly do the same. He got no enjoyment out of them, so what exactly is the point in keeping them? If anything, it's possibly better because the collections could go to someone that actually cares about them. At least he didn't throw them out. I was given a random quarter collection some years back, but I really didn't care about it outside of the fact that it was money. So I've been using them as laundry money lately.
I'd rather that he sell them. Seriously. It's clear to me that Chris never respected his father's wishes in the first place and probably only remembers the letters from his dad because Geno put them all into videos. And while it's not like Chris will suddenly start cutting the hoard down just because he sold a part of it, it's better that those records and stamps find homes where they can be appreciated. Whether it be by people genuinely interested in collecting these things, or by people merely interested in Christory or those wanting to pay respects to Bob's wishes. I only hope he sells them for what they're worth. But knowing Chris he has no clue how to even start appraising what he has. And either sells it for far, far more than it's worth or criminally undercuts himself.
I feel like this is me (minus the cop part) I've seen video about this guy show up in my tik tok and I know VERY little of what's currently going on. So I'm holding on like I'm about to go on a rollercoaster.
Here’s a note to everyone watching this: your autism will not make you end up like Chris Chan Chris Chans autism mixed with abuse and his personal decisions made him who he is today
Also if your an autistic person watching this and you don't want to end up like Chris Chan you won't because you are already self ware of your behavior in order not to end up like him. If you keep on being a good person you won't end up like him. Also not everyone who gets abused will end up like the abuser, again if you are aware of your actions and you try hard not to repeat the actions of your abusers you won't end up like your abusers.
preach, I have an autistic niece and nephew, And a very autistic neighbor, Chris Chans behavior and transgressions have nothing to do with their autism. It’s possible to be both a horrible person and also autistic. It’s possible to be a predator and also autistic. People are placing way too much emphasis on the autistic part. It’s OK to empathize with someone for being autistic and it’s OK to have compassion and sensitivity to people who are on the spectrum not only that but with any mental illness or physical affliction but we can’t forget the horrendous things that this person has done and I’ve seen in the comments on a lot of Chris Chan videos autistic people expressing concern that somehow they are more predisposed to becoming a monster like this, and I’m gonna say it loud and say it clear for the people in the back: no, you are not autism does not create things like this! It’s not an excuse for things like this it’s not incidental to things like this don’t have that fear you are who you are. You may be someone with autism, but that doesn’t define you as a person that’s not your identity. You are a person with autism not an autistic person remember that
When I first started watching this series I was terrified of ending up like Chris. I have Autism and saw many things we had in common, and it scared me. But that fear inspired me to be a better and kinder person and fight against the worst parts of myself. It's just tragic that christory is what helped me become a better person.
hearing that letter chris' father wrote is heartbreaking, he clearly loved his child and wanted to experience everything he could with him, maybe it's a blessing in disguise that he died before he saw what chris had become
What I find most interesting is how Chris Chan has had so many tv and news appearances even before the sonichu infamy. It's almost like he was destined to be documented since childhood
Morphing Taxi his body language was different, though. In still pictures, medium-high functioning autistic people look normal, but on video, the illusion is shattered.
@Zac sesz "I saw one picture of him, analyzed it, and now I know his childhood.. and why they chose him" Lmao wtf? He looks and talks like any other normal child that age. The thing is, Chris just stopped aging mentally around 10-12.
The Dreaming Studio was so sad to me... Like, Bob just wanted to build things with his son and even made a plaque for it, only for it to become hoarding space and forgotten memories to Chris as he descended into madness.
Meh as a dad, I kinda think valuables you leave your kid aren’t necessarily supposed to be cherished. As long as the stuff gets sold for somewhere near what it’s worth and the proceeds go to make my kid happy in some way, it’s a success.
After a certain point, he knows, he just doesn't care because he has the white knights to wipe his ass for him every time. Up until the Barbussy incident.
fake friends are a nightmare , but figuring it out is a blessing . too bad he found out too late . (whatever he has done , being autistic kid , being fake friended is fucked , paying them even worse !) u better can know it by analyzing how they act around others versus u . fake friendships u can hold on to but they only hurt ya at the end .
It's kinda hard to say "most documented person" because Chris is only in his 30s and most of that documentation is from 2007 onward, so there's half of Chris's life we know relatively little about. Just look at how little time it takes in this series before we get to the trolling. It's also worth pointing out that documenting someone's life is more than just archiving their life. Besides this documentary, there are very few GOOD documentaries about Chris. Most are just 20 minute videos by orbiters jumping on a trend. There is very little informative text about Chris. Mostly news articles or the CWCki. As far as I know there are no biographies of Chris. To be fair, he's still alive, and that would be a lawsuit waiting to happen. Chris is probably the most ARCHIVED person in history. And eventually one day maybe he'll be the most documented. But it's unlikely. He just doesn't have the worldwide fame someone like Napoleon or Lincoln had. No historians or documentarians are out there looking to make a 5 volume biography of Chris.
You know why? Cause Chris himself dox the hell out of his own to the internet for whatever reason why. But can't blame him tho, he was very much autistic and bad people took advantage of that. The fault lies heavily on his parent for never properly addressing his issues and basically ignoring it his whole life. Could've taken him out of the internet, could've sent him to a mental hospital to help him but ofc not a single of those thing ever happened in his life.
"I hope you will not misuse, waste, or destroy the many things I have collected for you" This documentary has better foreshadowing than Attack on Titan
The way they destroyed everything is disrespectful but don’t burden your kids with different collections of thousands of items , some with very little value and than request that they cherish and enjoy everything. I wouldn’t know what to do with it if my dad left me hundreds of vcr tapes and thousands of old magazines.
@@ImaTroper any normal person has a job and a life and they don’t have time to peruse such large collections of old magazines , recoding of all types and books to see what has meaning . Just learning about it to see what has value , and then taking the time to find a buyer or to sell it individually online , that’s a second job with the amount he had. Just the selling part would take such a long time. Now Chris never has done anything , he could have made a job out of it but to anyone with a life , that’s a nightmarish inheritance.
That whole thing were you had something and you're super jazzed about it and it's gonna be so fun. But then nothing comes of it. Such a depressing feeling, and I don't know why.
@@noahmay7708 It's knowing that you've lost it, the potential for something great. Slipped from between your fingers, or lost because you were too careless. A parallel for Chris' life in general. I could hardly make it past the first five minutes of this video, knowing how well things could've gone for him but how poorly it all turned out.
@@JEMRocker Nah, that's taking accountability away from everyone around Chris and Chris themself. Chris def could have turned out slightly better with different parents imo
That letter from Chris' Middle School teacher was weirdly prophetic, as years later, Chris basically became an open book and almost intentionally gave aggressors information on how to upset him.
His address, his house, and his identity, and he doesn’t have the intelligence or maturity to fully combat his own “enemies”...why didn’t he ever have the internet removed from his life?? He’ll be cut off from entertainment, but at least he’d be free from all these instigators. If only he didn’t directly give the trolls his weaknesses and his pet peeves, he wouldn’t be harnessed so much.
@@anarchimation1448 Chris is like a drug addict, he would have found another way to connect if he wanted. Also, he's a grown highly-functional (wo?)man, he *should* be responsible for his own life
@@ThomasWilson4 Except that Truman lived in a *nice* environment... A welcoming town, full of friendly people. They even provided a nice wife, job and home for him - none of which Chris has. Chris Chan's life is more like another film of the time called "Dark City", where the protagonist is being watched continually and his life controlled by dark forces who alter every aspect of his life. He cannot escape the city, and does not know what to do about it, at least to begin with. (This film was pre-Matrix and less well remembered.)
This part of Chris’s life was so hopeful and shows just how badly he was failed by the education system and his parents. He was a fairly normal kid based on this video and while his autism certainly didn’t make it easy for him he had normal interests and hobbies and he could have made genuine friends if given the chance to. Love your work Geno, good to see you’re still going strong
I've been listening to it at work, currently at episode 42-46ish. Good way to just turn your brain off and listen. Though, I was really interested in what I was missing visually so I'm restarting the entire thing
The sheer amount of records archived of this family is incredible. I wouldn't have at all expected that radio program Bob hosted to be recorded and released.

I have my Masters in Intellectual Disability/Autism and currently work as a head special ed teacher. I've watched this entire series because it is truly a remarkable case study of what happens when Autism and disabilities are not taken seriously from a young age. The story of Chris being locked in the toy room, his parents leaving him with a baby sitter, possible abuse from school staff, his dad paying girls off to be his friend, and everything else in Part I truly lay the groundwork for everything we see down the line. Chris had the unfortunate lot in life to be born in 1980s rural Virginia to an elderly couple that was not equipped and unwilling to get him the help that he needed, and a school system that wasn't equipped to help him either. If he had the proper support from a young age he could have lived a relatively healthy and normal life. I think about the teacher who he liked the most, she seems to have been the only adult in his life that actually treated him with dignity and tried to help him succeed (and truly believed he could have). People talk up Bob a lot, and while he was a sad man and earnest, he mostly wanted Chris to preserve his legacy and be seen as "normal" over everything else. Paying people to befriend him and ignore his disability doomed him to a life of delusion and agony. Every day I think about Chris and the work I do to help kids like him, and I try my darndest to make sure something like this never happens again. Truly gives me purpose tbh.
You talk like your discipline would have resulted in a different outcome, but you honestly can't say for sure if Chris had been born in 2023, and with all the theory and approach to autistic kids of today, if the outcome for Chris would have been any different.
@@jackrussell3084 You are 100% right, but Chris also did a ton of things in high school that were completely ignored by everyone involved, just something to think about. But yeah, every autistic kid has much better outcomes now over those born in the 80s.
@@jackrussell3084 Thing is, we'll never know what could or could not have been for Chris, but what did happen turned out to be one crazy fucked up life.
@@jackrussell3084 chris was definitely a bad person from the get go however terrible parenting, a lack of support and relentless bullying only exacerbated his issues. chris and everyone involved with chris’ life would have been better off if chris was actually taken care of.
So, I have a question. I have Asperger's, or what's considered "high functioning" autism. Compared to myself and other socially high functioning neurodivergent people I know, Chris Chan is a living dumpster fire. As in, every single decision they make leads to tragedy for either themself, those around them, or both. I don't see how someone like them could be considered "high functioning" in any sense. So would they still be considered as "high functioning" by today's standards? I mean, we have a lot more medical knowledge about those on the autism spectrum now. I feel like Chris Chan was only diagnosed as "high functioning" when they were little because they weren't entirely non verbal. So in your expert opinion, where on the "high functioning" to "low functioning" spectrum would you place Chris on?
RIP The Internet Lumberjack. Despite his emotional distance as a father, Bob was the only thing keeping Chris together. The Tomgirl saga would never have happened if Bob was still alive. He has no one to feel ashamed of disappointing. Barb really is a disgusting person, and enables his degeneracy.
Bob and bard refused to send Chris to a school where the staff is trained to handle children with autism because they refused to accept that Chris has a disability. if they had chris might be living a somewhat normal life today.
You have to understand the mindset that his parents grew up with and the climate around mental health at the time. It was seen as career ending in public fields if you even pursued diagnosis/treatment for it (Hipaa started in 1996), The mental institutions were closed down rapidly in the 80s, and also in the early 90's schools were pushing Ritalin like TicTacs. They were subjected to none stop propaganda from the media about mental health and ADHD was just starting to get clinically studied. Sure their son was weird but it could be played off as a Bobby Hill "The boy ain't right." way. They likely hoped his computer fascination would lead to a future where thats what he worked with. Hes a well documanted example of the many unfortunate cases of people falling through the cracks.
I was born with autism, and luckily the situation was taken care of when I was little. I was taken to multiple Special Ed. classes, and now, I feel as if my autism is only a mere inconvenience, not very much at that. I can function properly, speak properly, and I can do things on my own, I’m currently 14, going on 15, and it won’t be too long before I get my Driver’s Permit.
This video wildly swings from deeply depressing and disturbing details about Chris’s life, and anecdotes that would be super sweet and wholesome, until you remember that it’s Chris Chan and this all ends horribly. Truly surreal
Hearing that letter that he’d written for his son that he most likely knew was the last child he’d be having is a serious heartstring tug. When he says “yourself and your children” that shit was genuinely heartbreaking.
@Lassi Kinnunen 81 I think that those letters show that for all his faults Bob was a decent person. He obviously cared very deeply for Chris. We don't know what happened with his other kids. Even if he was at fault, we can still empathize
@Lassi Kinnunen 81 I believe, though I may be wrong, that the letter was written before they knew that Chris was autistic. Bob was hoping for a normal kid, a kid who could be a proud legacy. I would love more documentation on Bob from before Chris, I know that autistic children often have one of two results on the parents. They either break the parents and bring out their worse traits that may have never otherwise surfaced, or they show just how good the parent is. I've witnessed both first hand, and have heard many similar stories. It isn't universal, and while I can recount two extremes, I know many many cases in the middle exist. I witnessed one of the most loving people I've ever met turn into a monster under the stress of her autistic daughter, which resulted in her being abandoned by her husband, until she decided to poison herself, her daughter, and her non-autistic teenage son at dinner. Her son only survived because he was in the middle of a depression after his first girlfriend left him and he didn't eat much. I remember him coming around to see me after I heard the news, asking if I could give him a place to crash and store his things until he could find a way cross country to his grandparents'. He showed me the note his mother left, and the journal detailing everything she went through with her daughter. Begged me to read it and mark the parts I felt were most important to make sense of it because he was scared and confused. It was heart breaking, you could read as the woman was twisted into being a monster just trying to find a normal life for her daughter until she came to hate the daughter, and, realizing what she turned into, herself, and decided her son must have turned into the same kind of monster, and none of them should live. Yet, to leave you a happier note. I also witnessed the most white trash, drug addicted, welfare abusing people you can imagine have their fourth kid, and the kid turned out to be autistic, and realizing that the kid would never be able to fend for itself, turned themselves around. They both got educated, they both found jobs, they are putting their other kids through school now, and they are doing all they can to take care of and find the best life for their autistic son. Not a normal life, but a good one. I think that often is the difference in mindset that turns people into monsters. The monsters always seem to want a normal life for their autistic child above all else, while those who turn out decent just want a decent life for their kid.
@@squirrel_killer- to be fair, most parents of autistic children today have access to medical support or information to help understand how to best care for the child. Bob thought he knew better than professionals, and his decisions made Chris’ life growing up way more difficult than it had to be. And like you said, he probably loved Chris and wanted the best for him despite how he turned out. That said, Barb and Bob’s parenting was just one piece of the horrifying 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle that is Chris Chan’s life story. Second point: I assume you’re talking about extremes on the autism spectrum near the end, because there are a lot of kids with milder forms of autism who can lead normal lives, with some adjustments. That said, mild autism can still set back a child if their mental health needs aren’t taken care of, because they still face hurtles that that people without autism don’t even have to think about, and teaching them the tools to come to terms with it should be a parent’s first priority. No parent is perfect, and raising kids with special needs can be difficult for a lot of people, but there’s only so far those excuses can go to justify parent’s missteps, however well-intentioned. That’s also why I commend those parents you mentioned for cleaning up and doing right by their children. It takes a lot to admit when you need to change for the betterment of your family, and even more to follow through with it. My condolences to your friend, that first story was heartbreaking. I hope he’s doing well after everything that happened.
It’s actually scary how much documentation Chris has on him I did not expect such high detail. I wonder if that adds to his madness knowing every move he makes is known
Man, this is one of the times i wish i had a time machine to stop a crucial event from happening, finally decided to watch this series, this is an amazing thing you've been making.
This shit hurts to watch. Like it genuinely hurts. It’s like watching a train heading towards a cliff at full speed. You know what’s going to happen, and you can’t stop it. You can only watch in horror.
Seeing Chris as a little kid who just wanted to be loved hurts, imagine being a child with dreams of being somebody big, without knowing you'd become the laughing stock of millions 20 years later. It's truly painful seeing him in such an innocent state, he didn't deserve this
yea i finished the documentary a few days ago and rewatching the first episode is one of the most spine chilling things i’ve seen in a good while, it hurts to see an ambitious kid turn into a monster
I sincerely think her parents set her up for failure. If she had parents who actually knew how to care for an autistic child and didn’t feed in to her delusions she would have just ended up an autistic trans woman who posted some strange crossover comics on the internet. She probably still would have gotten bullied just for being autistic and trans, but she probably would have dealt with it a lot better. Or at least her parents would have intervened.
it's crazy to me how Chris talks more clearly as a teenager than he does currently as a 40 year old man. he can barely form sentences without muttering or stammering nowadays.
Probably because he was actually doing *some* socializing in high school. For the past 20 years the only social interactions he's had have been over the internet with people who are almost never who they say they are. (Outside of the rare convention visit, or GameStop trespassing) As shitty of a person as Chris is, can you imagine HALF of your entire life being spent never communicating with a "real" person?
Despite being a Christorian for over seven years, I came back to watch this in light of recent events. I'm not gonna lie, hearing Bob's letter to Christian (after all that has transpired) almost made me cry; If he only knew.

@Towely Smokes bobs letter means less to me because it's essentially just his justification for hoarding crap. A straight razor is an heirloom, a cherished record or stamp could be an heirloom, but a boat load of stamps and records and other assorted shit? Not really. @@firstnamelastname5596 I think that's an interesting thing to ponder over. Perhaps if we actually got to view our own lives from a different perspective like this, we'd notice some signs of what's to come. Maybe we'd be living life a lot differently.
The "Christian Weston Chandler Show" bit is so fucking haunting when you consider that Chris's life became the closet thing we have to a real world Truman Show.
Man, I was just thinking about that. Only real difference being that Chris was mostly aware of it, though since he constantly fell for so many trolls I guess you could make the argument he was unaware to a degree.
Also fitting that it was the first video he made of himself when he said that. It was the opening of the show. Whoever gave Chris a camera and taught him to film himself had no idea of the lovecraftian horror they initiated.
People always say that, but I think the similarities are only external. Chris Chan, differently from Truman, is an unlikable asshole whom we can only pity and despise

Don't worry. It's counterbalanced by Chris being too stupid to realize, and too evil to be sympathetic to. We are already way past the point when we could pretend that all the things wrong with him come from his illness or from trolls.
Chris could have literally turned off his computer at any point in his life, but he chose not to. People love to blame the mean trolls for how he turned out but he has no one to blame but himself.
For his entire life Chris has been pulled down by the weight of autism and too many people around him weren't able to understand that. Bob had no such problems. Chris' dad was such a good guy. I genuinely respect him, what he stood for, and his ideals (At least in terms of the mountain thing referenced in the video, the collections, etc). So looking back I feel horrible about the man, and realize that this kind of thing probably happens more than we'd like to think. Very depressing
This feels like rereading a mystery novel… Noticing all the foreshadowing that was right in front of you but you didn’t have the info to understand it at the time…
I have been following CWC since like 2012 or something but completely forgot about him during the weird pseudo-trans saga. It’s time to catch up again before the finale.
Honestly im surprised he didn't offed himself or went into a shooting spree considering how people in the united states like to bully others to the breaking point.
To be fair, despite his dad's achievements, neither of his parents gave adequate help that Chris needed despite their good intention. He wasn't a normal child but they expected him to grew up as such, didn't teach him necessary life lessons or social skills for him to function, refusing to allow institutions to intervene. If he wasn't allowed to be obsessed with cartoons or video games (which normal children enjoys and would naturally grow pass that phase unlike Chris), a lot of problems would be prevented.
It's wild to think that, at least in the early stages, all it would've taken to prevent some of the horrible stuff later on was for either Chris himself to stop uploading every part of his life on the internet or for his parents to take away his internet access for at least a couple of months.
Bob abandoned his entire first family and Barb abused Cole and kicked him out at 17, so I think it’s safe to say they were both terrible parents and neither of them ever should’ve had children.

Expecting your kid to keep your stuff is extremely egocentrical and childish. If anything, this (the collection being sold to someone who probably actually wants it) is the best outcome.
It hurts so much seeing these childhood photos of him. He looked so normal. He *could* have been normal. His parents failed him. The school system failed him. And as he aged, he ultimately failed himself. God, I need a drink.
I actually have the opposite effect from watching this, moreso in later episodes where worse happens, but I see this and I get this nice appreciative feeling for how good my life is in comparison. Also frequently gives me the urge to do something productive, more effective than a self help book imo.
I came damn close to being like this. I had social workers help me and my parents took charge and both my parents helped me a lot in overcoming my autism. I recognize and sympathize with the feelings he had then, but he unfortunately didn't have anyone to help him move past them. Instead, he degenerated into the absolute mess he is now. Barb is 78 this year, with her poor health she isn't likely to be around for much longer and I don't think CWC can feasibly support himself.
If he had better parents he would have been a functioning member of society today And then there was a trolls although I freely admit Chriss brought so much of it on himself What does it say about these adults that were trolling him getting their jollies off of psychologically torturing a grown man with the mental capacity of a child
His parents set him up for failure and he took that set up and went beyond full force with it. I think pre 2007 he could've been saved. See a good therapist or psychiatrist, lose some weight, get his mind together, get a part time job, etc. Once he gained access to the internet more so TH-cam it was all over. I think the trolls are also to blame for this mess. They made an awful situation a million times worse.
38:14 this entire ending was purely heartbreaking. He was pretty creepy and had issues aftewards, but before all of that, at this point, he was genuinely an innocent person at the world's mercy.
There is one massive positive about these events. This is a treasure trove of documentation that gives great insight into mental illness, delusions, and the backstory of someone that would grow to become the monster that Chris is. It will be very valuable in further understanding individuals like him in the future and may give modern medical professionals the insight they need to better prevent such misconduct in the coming years. There is little if anything left to the imagination, and the fact that this is all mainstream means it will have a huge impact if properly studied.
This is absolutely correct. If there is ONE positive to be gleamed from this all it's this. The sheer amount of information detailed in this persons entire evolution as a human being, all of the aspects that molded them into the human being that they are... It's absolutely incredible and creates so much sadness in you. It's sorrowful to see every possible turn that could lead to redemption, or any inkling of potential be blocked... to see enabling, and see the mental decline of somebody like this is truly fascinating. A perfect definition of a case study if there ever was one.
This is incredible for the history profession. It's a good second hand source and can be used to comment on a variety of topics but it's incredibly sad and disheartening. Especially now people on the left and right have used Chris chan as a jumping off point for arguing when it's just Chris like Jesus why are they surprisingly relevant to all the horrible things society is now
I'm strapped in and ready to go. The only thing that bothers me so far is anything to do with his mother, knowing what I know....It's super super dark.
Sure ,Chris did wrong, but people are treating this like it was the fucking Jonestown massacre. Chris doesn't even deserve prison,Chris can't be judged normally cuz her mind is way beyond lost,Chris needs a mental insitute and the right treatment. Sure, keep Chris in the institution for a long time if necessary, but putting Chris in the middle of common criminals who did crimes out of true evil and not because of mental problems is just cruel.
The fact this man still remembers who got him what for his 18th birthday is a testament to how much he really seemed to cherish those few friendships...
@@moodymermaid3690 I think you're right, I'm sure he remembers though. I have no social issues and am quite skilled socially but I grew up (and continued to be) very alone... Not necessarily lonely... But I remember every kindness I've received from a stranger or friend. Example, a few months ago a random person complimented my sunglasses and I still think about it. Seven, and some change, years ago at a waffle house I held a door for an old man in a cowboy hat and he tipped it to me and said "Thank you kindly.". I have a few memories of stuff like that. Kind of pathetic probably but because of how much those little moments mean to me I try to do the same for others. They might not value it for as long or as much but if in the moment it makes them even slightly happier... I'm happy.

@@switchmasterstopmotions yeah people go way too easy on Bob because of his funny interactions with Chris in a couple of videos, and his good intentions, but meaning well isn't the same as doing well by your kid.
Mrs Sanford's letter made me feel warm inside, you just knew that she really cared about Chris and was a really passionate teacher. I hope she's doing well wherever she is.
My haters throw rocks at me and IT hurts. I hope they don't throw The Rock at me because I like him as an actor. GAGAGAGAGA!!! I am funny!!! I am the funniest TH-camr EVAH! Please agree, dear chris
if i ever became a teacher, i'd live in permanent fear of inadvertently creating another chris chan by telling some random kid in my class that he couldn't use copyrighted material in his media project
Back when I was first getting exposed to Chris Chan, I felt no shame in laughing at his antics. But when you know how he became the person he is now, it's very sad to watch everything going downhill knowing it will never be better. Most people say Chris needed discipline and be told that his actions are wrong. While he definitely did need that, I feel his main weakness was his lack of social skills. Almost every "friend" Chris had in his life were not real friends. His high school gal pals were only there so he wouldn't be alone, and his parents didn't teach him how to find friends on his own. Chris was probably never criticized for anything he did wrong, so he feels he is always right, whether if he's making death threats at Adam Stackhouse, or pepper spraying a GameStop employee. Anything that Chris does is normal to him, but not to anyone else. In the later parts of this documentary, Chris starts looking for a "boyfriend-free girl" and at first, it was because of his lack of companionship, but then he started making it about losing his virginity and having a woman to take care of him. Forming a relationship like that can be easier for some people because of knowing what's acceptable and what isn't. Chris doesn't understand social cues of when to stop. He stares at their breasts, and he tries to touch and kiss them. To you and me, we can obviously see what he's doing wrong, but Chris can't figure it out, because he has never been criticized for his actions and told no. I'm very sorry for this long post, but this is something I wanted to bring up because I feel that no one else talks about this. With Chris going further and further down this hole he was dug into. It shows that the person who cared the most for Chris was his middle school teacher Mrs. Sanford. She offered advice to Chris through a letter that knowing what we know now, he could have really used. All that's left to see now is how much further down he goes in life until he inevitably passes away, when that happens, that is when we realize that his life could have been much more different. It may still have bumps in the road, but he could have been a much better person than he ended up being, and knowing there is nothing we can do about it, and all we can do now is let it continue.
@@jackbharucha1475 That does bring something I forgot to mention. As a kid, Chris's parents felt he was normal and that his autism was non-existent. Because of that, his parents didn't give him the proper help he needed. When he became an adult, when Chris was getting more control over his own life, he felt there was nothing wrong with him, except having autism. When Chris went to college, he got in a fight with Mary Lee Walsh about his attraction sign. It's possible that Mary just told Chris that he should put his sign away, but like I said in the last post, Chris doesn't understand how to act socially. This lead to him getting kicked out of college and was forced to take anger management classes. He could've gotten actual help from this, but Bob and Barb fought against it, which is probably why Chris believes he's stable even though he wasn't. Rocky Shoemaker, his Pastoral Counsellor was his main source of help, probably because she tried to make him feel good above all else when trying to help him. I do believe some people should get a second chance in redeeming themselves, but to do so, you have to try and be better and do it every day, but after a while, Chris will go right back to making rants towards his trolls. In short, his parents didn't give him the help he needed, then they fought against their son being put in a mental institution, and Chris believes he is right no matter what, and because of that he will unfortunately never change and be better.
@@alexsamuelson3205 What a lot of people, including those who hate on Chris for his/her actions, fail to understand is that due to whatever other mental health condition Chris has that has somehow never been diagnosed(possibly one of the Cluster B personality disorders or schizotypal personality disorder), Chris understands & perceives things very differently from people who are normal or people who are just autistic and are, unlike Chris, actually on the high-functioning end of the autism spectrum(like me), and is incapable of seeing that he/she has certain problems and has delusions. What to someone like me or a non-autistic person would be disgusting, indecent, or inappropriate, is not seen that way by Chris. For example, that drawing Chris made of him/her fingering his/her former friend Megan, and uploaded to the internet to prove to trolls that he/she isn't gay. Plus, Chris truly has the mental capacity of a 7-year-old child. Maybe, even a 6-year-old child. These issues combined with Chris not getting the special needs education he/she needed as a child, because of Chris's parents being idiots, and all of the trolling towards him/her have resulted in the person we see today. The only hope for Chris is he/her having consistent psychiatric treatment forced upon him/her. If that doesn't happen, after Chris's elderly mother dies, Chris will either end up homeless, end up in a psychiatric care facility, or end up getting killed in a confrontation with the police, due to refusing to move out of the house. As the TH-cam user K 767 said, "I think the guy just doesn't have sufficient cognitive resources to deal with his emotions and responsibilities, so, it's unreasonable to judge him as if he was just a normal guy who happened to be lazy and narcissistic. The Asperchu Saga was hilarious, but don't kid yourself. Alec was just a troll pushing the right buttons to confuse a mentally challenged man.". And, as TH-cam user ARC1300 said, "I think it's just too difficult for us to compartmentalize his issues and his shortcomings to "He refused to get help. Boo-hoo! It's his fault.". Mental health is a very complicated issue for us to just simplify it like that. I get it. We're all human and we want an easy answer to everything, but that just isn't the way life works. Don't get me wrong. I'm not advocating any of the shit he has done. I wouldn't even dream of it. But, it just seems lazy, arrogant, and callous to just say something like that and leave it at that.". As the character Arthur Fleck said in the movie "Joker", "The worst part about having a mental illness is people expect you to behave as if you don't.".
Coming back here from episode 78 is absolutely crazy. Hearing things that I never noticed before that resulted in terrible conditions. His parents absolutely set him up for failure, and now... well...
Also, for newcomers starting this journey: this will take a long time to get through. There's a lot. But don't skip anything, no matter how dull. There are so many small details that are very contextually important. Also, it gets weirder, and weirder, and sadder, and sadder, and more insane as it goes on. Just when you think it can't get worse, it does.
consumer society is one of the core elements, what would have happened to chris without all of those toys, videogames, TV shows that kept him in a child like state ?
I know he abused Megan and did that to Barb but I still feel bad for him He was abused and groomed as a child and didn't get help what to you expect? SOB STORIES ARE VALID
I think chris is a case of someone who was far too vulnerable to manipulation, and was preyed upon by horrible people and warped chris to become awful too. Not excusing any actions, but i think its a very very complicated situation.
well his life peaked in his early life but it was full of abuses. his life would never be the same when he became an adult because his parents never made him ready for adulthood
@@Brandonhayhew agreed, not only did they not help him grow, they actively fed his delusions about Megan and the game place manager conspiring against him and enforced the idea to him that he can do no wrong
Idk know why, but hearing 8:20 ish just made me realize for the first time how much of a grandfather-granchild vibe this has. Chris never got the parental guidance he needed, since he only had the grandpa-figure who was more interested in sharing his wisdom and legacy and getting the kids approval through toys than actually helping him survive in the modern world it seems.
I get the feeling that if he had better parenting, he would be a totally different person. So incredibly imaginative and intelligent. He had it in him to be a good person.
Chris's siblings on Bob's side are 14/20 years older than him. By the time Chris came along Bob had already done the "dad thing", even if he did it poorly. I think if Chris had been born to parents in their 20s or even 30s he would've fared better.

incest and sexual assault. their mother is 80 and has dementia and was described to not know what was going on half the time, I think it counts as elder abuse.
Having watched part 85, I came back here for a rewatch until I realized just how *heart-wrenching* Bob's letter to Chris is. Bob is by no means a perfect father. He's not a perfect person. Chris wasn't a child he understood, and the children he had beforehand he treated awfully. He saw Chris as a chance to try again and be better and it really does look like he gave his best effort. He had hopes for his son and in the 40+ years Chris has been alive he's probably failed to accomplish even one of them.

I was given a random quarter collection some years back, but I really didn't care about it outside of the fact that it was money. So I've been using them as laundry money lately.
I'd rather that he sell them. Seriously. preach, I have an autistic niece and nephew, And a very autistic neighbor, Chris Chans behavior and transgressions have nothing to do with their autism. Chris’ racist ideologies all stemmed from his father
What I find most interesting is how Chris Chan has had so many tv and news appearances even before the sonichu infamy. It's almost like he was destined to be documented since childhood

The Truman show 2?
The Dreaming Studio was so sad to me... Like, Bob just wanted to build things with his son and even made a plaque for it, only for it to become hoarding space and forgotten memories to Chris as he descended into madness.

HE LITERALLY KNOWS CHRIS FIRST WORD THE MAN AINT LYIN

Yeah, it's pretty sad ngl
this was the 90s and the parents likely believed the school would be like it was in their youth (a looney bin)
Well i mean, we don't know how well special education was in that school.
That letter from Bob telling Chris to cherish his collection is heartbreaking to hear after knowning what happened to it
Reminds me of a biblical quote, like casting pearls before swine
The sad thing is that it's not only his father possession is also historical stuff.
Yeah, that was so sad.

Barb is 78 this year, with her poor health she isn't likely to be around for much longer and I don't think CWC can feasibly support himself.
If he had better parents he would have been a functioning member of society today
And then there was a trolls although I freely admit Chriss brought so much of it on himself
What does it say about these adults that were trolling him getting their jollies off of psychologically torturing a grown man with the mental capacity of a child
What I found really sad was they never had a single freind even as a child his gal pals only hang out with him either out of pitty or payed to.

I'm not sure it was a memory outright, but an excerpt from Chris' diary that made its way online.
I have a few memories of stuff like that. if i ever became a teacher, i'd live in permanent fear of inadvertently creating another chris chan by telling some random kid in my class that he couldn't use copyrighted material in his media project
his dad paying off this girl just so he has a "friend" lowkey breaks my heart.
He got failed by everyone, and it shows nowadays.
@@alexsamuelson3205 Has he ever tried therapy?
@@alexsamuelson3205 this sounds like a male and autistic version of the emergence manga
