tuned-ups beetle in Brazil can get 100 hp from a 1.6 dual carburetor engine. But now, talking about your beetle engine, it is so amazing and it runs so smoothly. Congrats!!!
@super71beetle This is just making me more excited to get mine on the road. I need to put all the tin work on and than i can fire it up. I can not wait. Those carbs have to make that drink the fuel, I would have done duals but didn't have the money. My dad had a weber progressive lieing around from a bus engine, i just cleaned that up and got a manifold for it.
I used a big flat head screwdriver and hammered on the spot welds holding the outer plate on, pried that out, then if you look with f flashlight on the inside, you'll see fiberglass, a perforated tube, and another inner "plate" The inner one is harder to get out, but I used the same technique, being careful to make sure that I would be able to eventually pull it out. I hope this helps!
@bluesuperbug i show in the video... it goes in the oil relief spot. if you have a dual relief case, make sure u put it in the correct one. i believe the threads are different for the control valve and pressure relief valve.
@justin1234 there's like no difference when you build up to just 1641, but there's a HUGE difference with the dual carbs. i put back on the stock carburetor for a little while, but it was such a pain in the ass to get it to run right, not to mention it doesn't run as good. for example, with the stock, my preheat things were clogged so it ran like shit when it was cold and every time i pulled up to a stop sign, it would want to stall. i never worry about it stalling with the duals
@TJDTaylor Dellorto 40 DRLA's. 30 Venturi's, 120 mains, 55 idles, 180 airs. I bought 50 idles, but it just wouldn't run as well at all. If i had money to waste, i bet it would run nice with maybe some 52's or 53's.
@Corsonb461 Well, I got this bug from my gramps to restore. It still needs to be painted before i'll be able to legally get it out on the road. My dad and I built the engine with parts that my dad bought off a friend. If i could have, i would have put in a w-110 or 100. I have done a serious amount of laps around my neighborhood and it runs great, but i can only compare that to a BEAT TO DEATH smoking, running on 3 cylinders, 1500, lol! I can easily spin the tires if i wanted. i hope this helps
Hay there , im actually getting very good mileage with my dual 40s as long as i take it easy with the gas pedal, i calculated it out on a road trip once at 32 mpg as good as a stock beetle !but with way more power when you need it (iv got a trans with highway gearing which helps with the millage) and top speed is over 115 the Chevy that was checking my speedo couldn't Keep up, the needle on my 90mph speedo was moving back towards the 0 didnt quite get there! o this was down a very steep hill
@MrSevvo took the baffles out. i've never dynoed so i can't give you any numbers. at about 1:16 i show the exhaust. the pipes used to have baffles that were like 3/4 inch holes
Could be for a short bit, i had the my engine cut out on me when i was racing a prelude, we were doing speeds from 70-110 mph for over an hour on a road trip in the middle of the night, i was running the pict 32 (modified a bit of cores) ratio rockers im guessing i was putting out 70+hp it , so i had to slow down for the pump to keep up! which sucked but im thinking this is not something you or me will be doing often, o i couldn't Keep up in the straights but would catch him in the corners
i completely gutted the exhaust tips - they used to have only about a 3/4" to 1" opening, but i took that out and threw it away so now the hole pipes that you see are the openings. much much louder after i did it.
i did put it in the pressure relief place... because thats where that sensor is meant to go.. but it reads EXTREMELY inaccurately.. the gauge wont even get up to 120* and i've used infrared laser temp things on the case that read about 140*. its a POS sensor, and a lousy place to mount it.
i can't say i know for sure, since it's never been on the dyno, but stock ones have about 50hp, but with my goodies i put on it, maybe it makes 65hp - but this is totally just a guess
try cip1.com, they sell all the usual vdo gauges and the black bezel seen here. But if you want the EXACT gauges i have they are the vision series. try summit racing, i just looked and at least the oil temp gauge is $10 cheaper there... but they won't have the black bezel they all fit in. Good luck!
Any reason you didn't go with a Engle 110 or performance. I just built one my self and should have it in my 72 super this spring, only diference is i have a spin on oil filter adapter, Weber 32-36 progressive and a 110 cam. How do you like the GT exhaust? I am going to get the 4 tip gt exhaust or the Empi header w/ single quiet pack I still cant decide. Have you taken it for a spin, does it act a lot better than the stock 1600?
@justin1234 oh, and because of the preheat thing, every time i would try to pull away from a standstill, it would.. how do i describe it... load up? and want to die. i would always have to pump up the throttle almost like i was trying to spool up a turbo just to pull away from a stop sign. and i felt like a tool revin my shit in a bug.. lol... it's so loud, but not fast at all xD
you may need to get an electric fuel pump my stocker wouldn't even keep up with my stock carb at speed, your bugs coming along good got to see it when its finished.
like someone else said. "HOW" did you remove the inside of the tips? i'm betting its a resonator type of insert. i've got an old GT 4tip. been looking at a fat boy. want it a little deeper and aggressive than what i've got.
@super71beetle How long do you sustain 88mph? I have a '70 Beetle and, although the speedo goes to 90mph, the certified VW mechanic I have do all my work says I shouldn't push it to 70mph unless it's cold weather. If there's nothing I can do, aside from buy one of those 5speeds for it, I might as well sell it and buy something faster. It's all stock right now.
@bhaggen the bitch sayin almost outta gas was me.. sometimes i like talking in odd voices.. and i don't think vdo makes a dipstick sender ANYMORE... you could maybe get one NOS or used, but i know that Gene Berg makes a dipstick, but not for a guage, its for the "idiot" light in your speedo and it makes it come on when the temp gets to 230* or so
Hi there, I was reading a thread stating that this type of exhaust causes a hp loss...have you experienced this? I'm shopping for and exhaust for my 69
Honestly, I can't really say because I have never dyno'd the car. I have seen the same threads though. In my opinion, it can't be worse than stock, especially if your rip out the baffles like i did. Best of luck!
thanks man, im going to buy 1965 1.3 vw. but i dont know how much hp it produces. but nw i think i can get an idea. but do you think i could modifiy the engine to aleast produce 150 hp :).
@super71beetle i have had mine at 90 straight shot no down hill stock 34 pic 1641 empi gt 4 tip exhaust =D s28.photobucket . com/albums/c216/MasterPiMp420/Monster%20Vw%20Stuff/?action=view¤t=Speedo90mph . jpg
This exhaust is not a "4 into 1." Or at least it's not a merged collector like you're asking. And yes I try to utilize as much tin as possible to keep it cool! I haven't run into any exhausts where I couldn't use the breastplate

Sounds good
i have the exact same one,it goes in place of the sump plug, those webers sound mean!!
Ahhh thank you! that's a pretty sick bug, too. your exhaust sounds so throaty lol

where the oil light wire goes you can get a splitter so u can put the oil gauge in the same place as the oil light sender is .
hope this helps you out
I just got my new empi exhaust and I'm putting it on my 1776cc prerunner :D Hopefully it has a nice sound like this, maybe a bit louder.
@ibexcycles actually, i've read that the stock pump can feed engines up to about 120 ponies!

Nice idle, nice sound, nice exhaust, congrats!!!!! Is it carburetor ou Fuel injection?

@jcroproductions i actually just put in *new to me* gauges! check out my latest video with the type 4 engine
i can't say i know for sure, since it's never been on the dyno, but stock ones have about 50hp, but with my goodies i put on it, maybe it makes 65hp - but this is totally just a guess

@skaterpunkdude3 no offense, but good luck with that endeavor. it will have to be a blueprinted masterpiece that revs to 8000 rpms to make that power
Hi, I was wondering where you got the gauges and the cluster. I found them a while ago but I seem to have forgotten where. Thanks.
can you explain exactly how you removed the baffles etc and opened them up? i'm thinking of doing this to mine but can't see how you could do it..
is that the exhaust with the collector? and are you running the breast plate?
How do you got this smooth revs?
Any reason you didn't go with a Engle 110 or performance. I just built one my self and should have it in my 72 super this spring, only diference is i have a spin on oil filter adapter, Weber 32-36 progressive and a 110 cam. How do you like the GT exhaust?

Sweet ride, man. You try this in a QM?
you may need to get an electric fuel pump my stocker wouldn't even keep up with my stock carb at speed, your bugs coming along good got to see it when its finished.

What cam are you running in that?
or do i have to swap a new engine from a subaru or mitsubishis
I have mine in the drain hole.
wat did u do to the empi? and how many hp now?
@super71beetle How long do you sustain 88mph? how much hp does it have
hey thats the same exhaust i have on my 69 and it does sound amazing on mine also but mine is only a single port 1600
bobbyromo1 I have a 69 as well did you experience a loss in power with this exhaust?
@Corsonb461 stock.
@ray891011 its just there. a lot of super beetles had em serves no purpose at all... for me
how much did u pay for your beetle? i have been trying to purchase one but i dont wanna pay to much because i want something i can work on.

Praveen Aashcharya you're not gonna get 150hp off a 1300cc you need a 1776 or higher
its basically stock after all... or at least it was in this video...
what carbs are you using?
These are 40 Dellorto DRLA's
I think I have 30mm venturis inside
no, but i bet it'd get maybe a 17 or 18 or so haha
@ibexcycles my top speed: 88mph lol
@super71beetle i have had mine at 90 straight shot no down hill stock 34 pic 1641 empi gt 4 tip exhaust =D

@sapefreeman got mine for free from my grandpa. just research and follow craigslist to see what sells and what doesn't
didnt sound stock XD lol
