- In this #horseracing handicapping video recorded on 7-18-24, Jarrod Horak analyzes the Grade 1, $1 million Haskell Stakes at Monmouth Park.
Haskell field: 1 - Dornoch (5-2), 2 - Jasper's Pride (30-1), 3 - Tuscan Sky (9-2), 4 - Timberlake (8-1), 5 - Fierceness (5-2), 6 - Just Step On It (30-1), 7 - Mindframe (9-5), 8 - Sea Streak (20-1).
The Haskell Stakes at Monmouth Park is the 12th race on Saturday, July 20, 2024.

Likewise it's all about Mindframe for me liked him in the Belmont with only 2 races under his belt and he had that race won except for the fact he ran green in the stretch which cost him the race finishing 2nd paid decent in the middle in the Belmont look for him to score on Saturday
He should have won the Belmont. Hope he makes amends in the Haskell.

Am now circumspect of Mindframe. His published works have been lethargic. More curious is Fierceness shipping, entering with him solely as a backup plan in case he scratches. Never heard of such a thing. Big red flag.
I would not read too much into seemingly slow workouts. Pletcher has used the same half-mile work routine with strong gallop outs for many years. Fierceness entering as a backup is no big deal. Pletcher has three horses in the Haskell and probably does not want to run all of them in the same race, especially with another big race in the 3yo division a week later (Jim Dandy).
@JarrodHorak. A colt who last raced as the KYD favorite is shipped only as a Plan B just in case. Whole scenario seems odd.
@@LABoyko I would assume that Todd Pletcher had Fierceness, Mindframe, and Tuscan Sky ready to roll, but probably thought that it was not wise to run all three in the same race. Also, Mike Repole is the owner of Fierceness and Mindframe, and he did not want both of his horses to run in the same race.
Fierceness never shipped to Monmouth. He never left Saratoga but could have jumped on a van if Mindframe had any last minute issues. Fierceness is expected to work on July 21 and if everything goes well, he will be entered in the July 27 Jim Dandy.
I'll single Mindframe too. If it's looking like better than a 50% profit on Mindframe, I will lay a decent size win wager. Hope the scratches aren't so numerous that he drops below 3/5 odds.
I hope the field mostly holds together as well. Mindframe should win this if he moves forward slightly.
@@JarrodHorak Well, it looks like Mindframe didn't take that step forward. Dornoch beat me again. He's on a roll.
@@paulv7554 Not sure why Mindframe did not go on with it. Looked like he would roll right on by turning for home. This result confirms the Belmont Stakes form, and that is probably a good sign for Sierra Leone.
@@JarrodHorak It sure did look like Mindframe would roll on by. Hope it is a good sign for Sierra Leone. I still think he is the best of this crop, but he needs a few things corrected.
@@paulv7554 I am looking forward to Sierra Leone's next start. Hope he goes in the Jim Dandy next week. It would be nice to see him get back in the win column prior to the Travers.
It appears to me Pletcher's horses have some physical problems always Scratching
His horses have been scratching and switching spots recently. Tapit Trice has been entered and scratched multiple times this year. He is entered again at Monmouth on Saturday. Let's see if he runs this time.

That would be a shame if the Haskell was reduced to five horses.
Dornoch may scratch too given DG does not like the 1 post
This race would really take a hit if Dornoch and Fierceness scratch.

@@karltbui If Dornoch and Fierceness scratch, Mindframe will be a strong favorite. Either way, I would like to see him make a statement and propel himself to the top of this wide open division.

@@JarrodHorak Irad did everything he could to lose that one.. should have won easy . start to finish bad .
